Articulate Storyline 360

What is Articulate Storyline 360?


Articulate Storyline 360 is an authoring tool. We use
this tool to create E-learning courses. When
creating courses, we can use Images, Videos, SWF,
Text, Gif Images etc. It has everything you need to
source assets, author multi-device courses, speed
stakeholder reviews, and grow your skills.

In order to get started with Articulate Storyline 360, there are a


set of instructionsArticulate
we need to follow to get the

software.
New Project:
Click on New Project. The scene appears as shown.

Record Screen:
✓ If we want to work on a simulation project. We can
record the screen.
✓ We have to click on the Record Screen option, a slide will
open as shown below.

✓ To record the screen, click on the red button and the


recording will begin.

Import: From here, we can import files like PowerPoint, Quiz


maker, Engage, storyline template, and questions from file.

Team Slides: If on a team’s account. You can share and


download files from storyline 360 in order to access the
shared files or templates with the team or organization.
✓ The page will be opened as shown below.

Recent: If we have worked on any project. The project


appears with the name under Recent Tab.
✓ We can open that project’s files from here.

Let’s know more about it:


When we click on New Project
✓ The Project will open as shown in the image below.

✓ First, we can change the scene name and slide


name as shown in the image below.

✓ Now, double click on the slide.


✓ The slide will open as shown in the image below.

To change the slide interface size we have to go into Design


as shown in the image in red highlighted color.

Then, we go to the left side Story Size Setup. We have to


click there and a page will pop up as shown below.

There are three options with two sizes and one custom:
1. 720 X 540 (4:3)
2. 720 X 405
3. Custom

If we want to increase or decrease the size of our slides then


we use Custom Option. We can select the size accordingly
ourselves as shown in the image below.

✓ Aspect ratio should be unlocked to efficiently change


the size.

Home:
When we click on the Home button, there are many tools.
The detail is given below.

Cut (Short Key Ctrl+X):


✓ If we want to cut any object from this software. Then
we can use the Cut option.
Copy (Short Key-Ctrl+C):
✓ If we want to copy any object from Articulate Storyline.
Then, we can use the Copy option.

Paste (Short Key-Ctrl+v):


✓ If we want to paste any object, Slide, or Scene. Then, we
can use the Paste option.
Save:
✓ If we want to save a file, click on the save button or use
the short key ctrl+S.
New Slide:
✓ If we want to create a new Slide. Click on the
New Slide option. This will open a list as shown
below which will allow us to choose the type of slide,
we want.

Content Library:
When we click on the Content Library 360, a new page will
open as shown below:

✓ To take any slide from here, select and click on the insert
button.
My Templates:
If you want to pick any template from Storyline. Click on the
My Template Option and a new window will pop up as
shown below:

✓ A list of templates will appear that we can choose


from
Basic Layout:

We use the layouts in the master page. We will discuss the


Master Page further and how to use the layouts.

Imports:

✓ If we want to import any slide from PowerPoint, Quiz


Maker, Engage, Storyline, and Questions. Select the file
type and import.
Graded Questions:
When we click on Graded Questions option, there will be
many formats of the questions. We can select any format as
required of the questions, as shown in the image below.

First, we have to select the template and click on the insert


button.
Survey Questions:
Articulate Storyline 360

Likert Scale is a survey question that aids the user to choose


the response that best represents his/her opinion relative to
a series of statements. There is a maximum of 10 statements
for each Likert Scale question.
Free-form Questions:

If we click on the new slide


option. We will find a list of
different options, now click
on Freeform Option. A new
window will appear as
shown below.

Drag and Drop


✓ Drag and drop questions create interactivity by
setting shapes as drag items and drop targets.
Pick One
✓ Pick one question lets the user choose a shape as an
answer.
Pick Many
✓ Pick many questions lets the user choose more than one
shape as an answer.
Text Entry
✓ Text entry questions lets the user type their answer in a
text field.
Hotspot Questions
✓ Hotspot questions lets the user click hot-spots on the
slide.
Shortcut Key
✓ Shortcut key questions lets the user answer with a key
stroke or key combination.

Results

There are many result slides as shown above. We can choose


any type of slide, for example Graded Result Slide, Survey
Result Slide, Blank Result Slide, Quiz Result Slide and Survey
Result Slide as per requirement.
Player:
When we click on the Player button. We can find the below
slide. There are many options available.

When we click on the Player there are many options, such as


Feature, Menu, Resources, Glossary, Player Style, Menus and
Control, Color and Effects, Text Labels, Other and Current
Player.

Resources
Resources option is used to add any object to the course.
The object can be checked on each slide. It is also
downloaded from each slide.

Sidebar:
Menu: Menu is one of the most important options for course
creation. It shows the slides as a subtopic and Scene as a
Topic, as shown below.

Glossary:
When we want to add a glossary to the course, we have to
select the Glossary option in the window as shown below to
add the glossary text.

Notes:
If we want to add a note to the slide then we have to select
the Note option on the Player and put the text in the Note
as shown in the image below.

Notes:
✓ If we want to add the note to a slide then we will
have to select the Note option on the Player.

✓ We put the text in the Note as shown in the image


below.

Features:

Title: If we want to have a title in the course, we have to


select the title bar in the options as shown in the image
below.

Sidebar:

Volume:

✓ Volume is used to adjust the sound level.


Search:

Search is an option to search the slides as per requirement,


for example: if you want to watch any slide. Please search
with the name.

Seekbar:

✓ It shows how much slide you have seen.


✓ There are two options:
1. Allow user to drag seek-bar
2. Seek-bar is read only.
Logo:
If we want to add a logo, we have to select the logo option
and click on “Click to add a logo…” as shown in the image.

Menu:
You can check the name of the slides from here, per your
requirement, as shown below.

Resources:
You can select the resource as shown below.

Glossary:
If we want to add the glossary then we have to click on the
Glossary button and click on the text “Click here to start
adding glossary terms to your player frame”.

Player Style:

As per requirement, you can change the style. There are


two modes for style, namely:

2. Modern

Color Effects:

There are two places to change the colors, as per


requirement.
1. Page Background Color
✓ We can change only the background color from here.
2. Base Main Background Color
✓ From here we can change many color options, as
shown in the image below.

There are several additional options. We can change the


Player font, Player Font Size, Caption Font etc.

Other:

There are two main options:


1. Player Size
2. Resume

Player Size:
This option is used to fill the browser window as show in the
image below.

Resume
This option is used to resume the course as per requirement.
1. Prompt Resume
2. Always Resume
3. Never Resume

Preview:

Preview button is used to preview the slide, scene, and


Entire Project. And, we can also publish the file from here, as
per requirement. Check the image below.

Publish:

If we want to publish the file, click on the publish button and


a new window will pop up. There are many options to
publish the file, such as Web, Video, Articulate Online, LMS,
CD, and Word doc. Please check the image below.

There are many options that must be selected before


publishing the file, as highlighted in the image below.

Font Style
✓ If we want to change the font style, then click on the font
style arrow, as shown in the image below.

Font Size
✓ If we want to change the font size, then click on the font
size arrow, as shown in the image below.

Text Bold
✓ If we want to type the text in bold, then click on the font
“B”, as shown in the image below.

Text Italic
✓ If we want to type the text in italics, then click on the “I”
font, as shown in the image below.

Text Underline
✓ If we want to underline the text, then click on the “U”
font, as shown in the image below.

Text Shadow
✓ If we want to type the text with a Shadow, then click on
the “S” font, as shown in the below image.

Text Strikethrough
✓ If we want to draw a line through the middle of selected
text, then click on the “abc” font, as shown in the image
below.

✓ Adjust the spacing between characters. As shown in the
image below.

✓ If we want to change the case of a text, then click on
the font “Aa”, as Shown in the image below.

UPPERCASE, lowercase, or other common capitalization, then
follow as sown below.

color, we have to select the text, then click the highlighter
pen. You could also choose from a range of colors as
shown below.

✓ If we want to increase text size, click on the red
highlighted part, as shown in the image below.

Clearing Formatting

✓ If we want to clear all the formatting from the selection,
leaving only the plain text, click on the red

✓ If we want to check the spelling of text, click on

Bullets
✓ If you want to arrange sentences in bullets, then follow
the steps shown below.

Numbering
✓ If you want to list your sentences in numbers, then
follow the steps shown below.

Alignment
✓ There are many options to align any object, text or video
etc. If we want everything aligned to the left, then select
the object and click on left align option; repeat the process
for center, right and to justify.

Increase/Decrease Indent
✓ To increase or decrease indents in texts, follow the steps
shown below.

Line Spacing
✓ Used to decrease and increase the space between
lines, as shown in the image below.

Text Direction
✓ To change the direction of the text within the shape,
click on the red highlighted part, as shown in the image
below.

✓ To change how the text is aligned within the Shape, click
on the red highlighted part, as shown in the image below.

Find/Replace

✓ This option is used to find a text, or replace a text, as


shown below in image.

This option is used to arrange the text, as shown in the

Shapes Quick Styles

✓ This option is used to choose a visual style for a shape


or line. Click on the red highlighted part, as shown in the

✓ This option is used to fill the selected shape with a solid


color, gradient, picture, or texture. Click the drop down
marker, as shown in the image below.

Shape Outline

✓ This option is used to specify the color, width, and


the line style for the outline of the selected shape. Click
on the drop down marker, as shown in the image below.

Shape Effects

✓ This option is applied as a visual effects to the


selected shape. Such as shadow, glow, reflection, or
rotation. Click on the drop down marker, as shown in the
image below.

Insert:
Slide Layer
✓ If we want to make a slide layer. Click on Slide Layer.
Slide Layer will come into the layers, as shown in the
image below.

Convert to Freeform Slides:


✓ We have already discussed about Freeform Slides.
Zoom Region:

Characters:

✓ To use preloaded characters. Click on Character Icon,


a window will pop up. You will find many characters on
the pop up, as shown below.

Photos:

✓ This is a very good option to insert photos and videos


from the internet. When working on Articulate Storyline
while online, we can pick images by clicking on the
Photos option, a new window will be pop up, as shown
below.

There are four Icons as shown in red highlighted color in the


image.
1. Characters
2. Photos
3. Illustrations
4. Videos

If we want to take the Characters, Photos, Illustrations, and


videos, then click on any of the options that meets your
requirement.
NOTE: Internet is necessary for this function.

There are six icons, highlighted red in the image below.


1. Picture
2. Shape
3. Caption
4. Video
5. Audio
6. Web Object

Picture: This option is used to insert images from local


drives.
Shape: This option is used to insert shapes.
Caption: There are readily available captions for use.
Video: To insert videos from a local drive, click on the video
option and select the video from the local drive.

Audio:
Click on the Audio icon to pick the audio from the
computer’s local drive. There are also additional options, for
example: Media Library, Record Mike, Text to Speech. We
can use these options as required, as shown in the image
below.

Web Object
To pick the web object from the local drive, click on the Web
Object, then select the web object, as shown in the image below.

✓ Now we will discuss the Text Box, Table, Reference,


and Hyperlink.

Text Box: As shown in the image above, we use this text box
to insert a text in the slide.
Reference: This option is used to create variables.
Hyperlink: This option is used to hyperlink any object. Please
check the image below.

Interactive Objects:

✓ Button: To insert a button, follow the directions as


shown below.

✓ Slider: This option is used for a Slider. There are


three types of Sliders.

Dial: A Dial lets a user rotate a shape around a mid-point


along a range of allowable values. Check the image below.

Hotspot:

✓ Hotspot is one of the most important parts in Articulate


Storyline. It is used to make the interactive sections.
Input:

✓ This is a control that can accept input from the


learner.

Trigger:
Add a trigger to a selected object to specify what should
happen when you click on it or hover over it with your
mouse. Please check the image below.

Scrolling Panel:
Scroll Panel is used to add the extra text, or any object on
the slide, as shown in the below image.

Mouse:
✓ We can change the style of the mouse as shown
below.

select the slide from.

the background color, as shown below.

Fonts:
✓ If we want to change the font, select the font option
and click on the drop down arrow to choose the font, as

✓ This option is used to choose the background, as
shown below.

Hide Background Graphics:


✓ If we want to hide the background, select this option,
as highlighted below.

✓ We can change the background color using the

✓ Transitions are like an animation. They are used to


animate the whole slide in one go.
Animations:

We use two types of animations as shown below.


Inner Animation:
✓ When we use the inner animation, we first must
select the object and then click on the animation, as
shown below.

Duration:
✓ We need to set the duration of our animation at this
time.
✓ After setting our duration, you should see something
relative to what we have below.

Effect Options:
✓ There are many options for animation.
✓ Follow the steps as shown below.

Exit Animation:
✓ First, select the object and choose the exit animation
as shown below.

Duration:
✓ To exit the animation we need to set the exit time, as
shown below.

Ruler: Ruler is used to set the alignment.

✓ We use the grid lines the same as ruler.

Guides:
✓ We use the guides to guide the slide.
Zoom:

✓ Zoom option is used to zoom in and out of the slide.


Fit to Window:
✓ This option is used to fit the slide.

Next and Previous Buttons:

✓ Click right on the base layer and go into property,


here the next and previous buttons will be available, as
shown below.

New Layer:

✓ To create a new layer, click on the new layer


button.
Duplicate Layer:
✓ To duplicate a layer, click on the Duplicate layer
button.
Delete Layer:
✓ To delete a layer, click on the delete option.

How to use the Triggers:


✓ When we want to use the triggers, click on the
Trigger button, as highlighted in red below.

✓ If we want to edit the selected layer, click on the


red highlighted option, as shown below.

Select the Layer for Copy:

✓ If we want to copy the layer, first, we have to select


and click copy then paste, as highlighted in red below.

Delete:
✓ If we want to delete an option, select the trigger and
click on the delete option, as highlighted in red below.

Variables:
How to create variables.

Variables:
✓ Click on the selected option, as shown above, and a
new window will pop up, as shown below.

✓ Click on the highlighted button as shown below.

✓ Now select any function to create the variable as


required.
