PREREQUISITES: Prerequisites: (ACT Reading with score of 019 and ACT English with
score of 017) or (ACCUPLACER Reading with score of 083 and
ACCUPLACER Language with score of 083) or (PERT Reading with
score of 106 and PERT Writing with score of 103) or Exempt Public
FL HS stand dipl with score of Y or Exempt Active Duty Military with
score of Y or (SAT Redesign Reading with score of 024 and SAT
Redesign Writing/Language with score of 025)
CREDIT HOURS: 3
CONTACT HOURS: 60 online
CLASS MEETING TIMES: 100% online, asynchronous
CLASS METHOD: Please check one of the appropriate boxes below to indicate the
instructional delivery method used in this course.

A – Asynchronous, Instructors prepare course materials for students
in advance of students’ access. Students may access the course
materials at a time of their choosing. Not required to take place on
a specific day and time.

C – Combination, a combination of synchronous and asynchronous.

S – Synchronous, Instructors and students gather at the same time
and interact in “real time” with a very short or “near-real time”
exchange between instructors and students. Required to take place
on a specific day and time.

FL – Flexible. A hybrid – Flexible course section makes all course
content available for both classroom (face-to-face) and distance
learning (online) experiences. Students in a hybrid-flexible course
section may choose to participate using face-to-face methods,
online methods, or a combination of both methods based on
preference.

Course Syllabus Category: Course Specific Details
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course teaches art appreciation whether in paintings,
sculpture, and/or architecture. The course focuses on the
relationship of art to respective historical periods and an
understanding of the role of art in our everyday lives. Students
demonstrate college-level writing skill through multiple
assignments.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to
demonstrate
knowledge—by successfully answering questions on an objective
examination—of the following topics:

1.Employ a visual and verbal vocabulary as it pertains to visual art


through oral and written critiques.

2.Discuss various social and ethical concerns in relationships to art


and the works studied in class.

3.Identify the place and importance of art and its cultural context.
Culture through videos and discussion online.

4.Describe the function of art is first and foremost to communicate


the experience of work using technique, discipline, and imagination
of the artist.

5.Describe the function and scope of visual art in the contemporary


world. They will also describe the formal elements and principles of
design artists use to achieve composition proficiency.

EXAM POLICY

Midterm and Final exams are comprised of a project and a written portion and must be turned in on
time for full credit.
READING ASSIGNMENTS & HOMEWORK

Students are expected to research various topics online and turn in exercises regarding the lesson.

CLASS PARTICIPATION

Class participation is a combination of discussions and online assignments. The online discussion
component is defined as posting a minimum number of substantial, separate, and distinct messages to
the various Discussion Forums. These discussion board messages must be posted before the deadlines
in the Course Calendar to count toward the student’s participation grade.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance is determined by students posting, reading, uploading or commenting online, a minimum of


1 hour per week. Other activities include researching online and setting up photography shoots.

*Instructors will report all students who fail to attend 10% of scheduled class meeting times to the Office
of Student Success.
