Pencil drawing animation Audio
‘Dance is a form of creative expression
trough physical movement that includes
rhythmic movements that accompany
music. Dance has played an important role
in human societies since ancient times and
continues to evolve today.’
My journey through dance / younger dance Audio
footage ‘I started dance from the age of three,
starting with ballet before my passion grew
and I began to learn more styles. It wasn’t
until I was 8 until I started to dedicate
myself to it completely and I realised how
much dancers put into their work.

jazz dance one ‘A lot of outsiders see dance to be people
throwing movements together throwing a
costume on and performing, but the more I
learnt it’s about the training behind these
dancers, from the age of 8 I was in the
studio multiple nights a week learning the
technique and new skills before I could start
a choreography. Not only is it about the
training but it’s about the friends that are
made along the way.’

‘While in the studio working on my training, I
began to do solo exams called medel tests
where I would perform one or more styles in
front of an examiner, also with my dance
teachers, family friends and others from my
dance school watching, doing these helped
me reflect on how I have improved in the
coming years with seeing the change in my
results as they would improve. Medel tests
are also a great way to keep dancers
working towards a goal and perform styles
that fit them. It wasn’t until I was around 13
and doing medel tests I really started to find
what styles fit my personality and body
more.

Relevai / Parde boure footage When dancers perform on stage the
audience see’s the finalised perfect piece,
but the hardest work goes in the training,
dancers don’t just create a piece of
choreography and show it off, we have to
work on our strength throughout the body
work on technique and keep on top of our
flexibility. For example, in ballet we work on
strengthing our ankles by doing exercises
at the barre and in the centre, this is a great
way in the mirror to watch our technique.
The key to a strong dancer is to have;
Inspiration, Confidence, Optimism, Training,
Determination.
Determination title Audio
Interview one - determination Determination is having a positive feeling
that promotes preserving towards a difficult
goal in spite of obstacles. For me, I have to
keep myself determine when it comes to
different turns if that’s in a sequence on just
one step as this is one of my weaknesses
but the more, I stick to practising the better I
will get. However, being determined isn’t
just about growing certain skills its about
feeling positive about what you’re doing to
keep with it and follow through to where you
desire it to take you in life.
Since the age of 7 I would write down my
dream job was to be a dance teacher and
that idea has always stuck in my head, I
have always told my friends and family this
is what I will do as my career, it wasn’t until
I started assisting at my dance school at 11
when I began to take this seriously, since
then I have been determined to make this
true and I’m currently working on my Dance
teacher certificate and working on my first
aid training.
Another way I keep myself determined is to
watch back on the different discs I have of
my performances, this way I can see how I
have grown as a dancer.

Injury title Audio
Interview two – Injury Injuries are a very common thing with being
very active, especially in dance, we can get
small injuries from pulling a muscle to the
extreme of broken bones etc. for dancers it
is very important to keep on top of our
physical health to try and prevent injuries.
Throughout my years of dancing, I was very
lucky when I was younger to not have many
injuries. I had more injuries as I started to
do more physical activity, I broke my left
foot and ankle in 2022 rehearsing my solo
section for our dance show and ended up in
a boot and having to take time out of dance
to let the bones heal and take physio. From
this injury it’s left me with a weak ankle
which gives me recurring issues needing to
use supports as the strength is still to this
day building back up. Starting in 2023 I
began to have hip problems which was
making me struggle to do certain things in
dance, to find out I have Fermoroacetabular
impingement which is a condition where the
hip joint is not shaped properly, and I have
been told the only thing I can do is physio to
try and help this, so I have to work my
dancing around this which can cause me
struggles when it comes to training. Another
serious injury I have had, I pulled my nail off
my skin which resulted in me pulling a
nerve in my right pinky where I couldn’t
bend the top part of it. I had to go for
surgery for this, luckily, I hadn’t done too
much damage, I didn’t have to have a metal
plate in my figure which would have
resulted in over 6 months out of dance.
With all of these previous injuries still
affecting me today, I don’t stop myself from
pushing through and continuing improving
and progressing, although these have
delayed the progress, I could have made in
my time out of dance, I believe I am still
showing a vast improvement from where I
was as a dancer two years ago.

Mindset title Audio
Interview three - Mindset Mindset is having a series of self-
perceptions or beliefs people hold about
themselves. These determine behaviour,
outlook and mental attitude. It is pushed to
have a positive mindset as this allows you
to achieve your goals more likely, the most
significant part to having a positive mindset
is that is allows people to see the good in
any situation, getting them to keep tyring
again and again.

Process of choreography creation / Turning Audio
clip
Turning in centre + quotes Audio
Choreography trial one, two, and three Creating a choreography isn’t just throwing
different moves together, it is finding the
right piece of music and listening to it to
create a story, this way when creating the
movement, you can express it through the
moves and facial expressions. To do this
some dancers listen to the music and just
create, a way I have been taught is to play
the music record myself or who I am
choregraphing withy and improvise it to
then look back at it and see what I think fits
and I want to use. This is what I did when
creating this seven-nation army dance, by
doing this it is also a great way to document
the rehearsal and trail and error in the
creation point. It can also show the
audience the amount of effort put in by
documenting all of the practice which can
then be seen, showing where the dancers
have built up the performance piece.

All of this footage shows the rehearsal and

final results of different performances, the
training and the injuries, this is what it is like
behind the curtain for a dancer, putting
endless hours to learning new sequences
and skills, while building physical strength
up and making sure our memory can hold
all of the different choreographies by
repetition. All of the training and effort put in
is always worth it to perform the final piece.

you put into dance, but the family and
