The Mystery of Atlantis

Why I chose this topic?

History is my favorite subject I can say that it is really a passion.
I watch a lot of documentaries and read a lot of specialized
books, but the thing that interested me more than the second
world war is the mystery of Atlantis.
The great researchers and archaeologists have tried to solve
this mystery but they haven't discovered even a single clue with
the most advanced technology, that's why this subject
fascinates me and I want to talk to you about it.

Who was the first to talk about Atlantis?

The first man to talk about Atlantis is Plato, an ancient greek
philosopher who lived in 423-348 before Christ and founder of
the Athenian Academy.
He spoke about human perception, love, perfection and others
like that but, the subject that is fascinates people is the lost city
of Atlantis.

How Plato described the island?

Plato described Atlantis in 360 BC as being a technologically
advanced society that lived on islands shaped in concentric
circles. They waged an unsuccessful war with Athens, and came
to an abrupt end after internal fighting and a series of
cataclysmic natural events around 9600 B.C.
Plato received the knowledge of Atlantis from an oral tradition
that came from ancient Egyptian priests and described the
island as possessing 10,000 chariots, advanced technologies, a
series of complex canals, and a vast number of bull and
elephants. The soil was rich, and abundant agriculture was
produced in the plains area of the island, which made use of
sophisticated irrigation systems. In the center of the island
where public baths, including fountains with hot and cold water,
and recreation areas, as well as a government and military.

Theories of the destruction of Atlantis

1.Atlantis is Antarctica
Around 12,000 years ago the Earth’s crust moved much norther
than it is today. This continent was home to an advanced
civilization, but the sudden move to its current cold location
killed the people and their magnificent city was buried under
layers of ice.

2.Atlantis is the story of the Minoan

civilization.
Believed to be Europe’s first great civilization, the Minoans built
splendid palaces, constructed paved roads and were the first
Europeans to use a written language. Historians believe around
1600 B.C., a massive earthquake shook the island, triggering an
eruption that throwed tons of rock, ash and gas into the
atmosphere. Tsunamis that followed the eruption were large
enough to wipe out Minoan cities.
3. The story of Atlantis was a story of the Black
Sea Flood.
At the time, the Black Sea was a freshwater lake half its current
size. The flooding inundated civilizations along its shore in a
short period of time.

4.Atlantis was swallowed up by the Bermuda

Triangle.
Atlantis was a real continent located in the Bahamas and was a
victim to the “Bermuda Triangle,” a region of the Atlantic where
a number of ships and planes has disappeared under
mysterious circumstances.

6. Plato invented Atlantis

According to this argument, Plato invented Atlantis as his vision
of perfect civilization. Furthermore, no clue of such a sunken
civilization has ever been found.

So, Atlantis was an ancient high-tech

civilization?
The answer is no. If this civilization ever existed, it was one of
the most powerful, but it did not have electricity, nuclear
energy and flying machines. These things were put into the
heads of the media people to make the story more interesting.

Conclusion
We will never know exactly if the lost city of Atlantis existed.
There are too few things that we can follow to find out the
location of the island, but it is a beautiful story that we can
believe.
