chapter 1

A guy dressed in full black (so black, the moon’s light reflected from his shoes), named Jack killed a
child’s family except for the child cuz he couldn’t find him. When he went up tot he graveyard to find
the toddler, a mysterious gentleman tried to help him, but couldnt and Jack left (we could feel that Jack
was scared around the mysterious stranger(EDIT: i’m currently reading chapter 5 i had to read this
again and now I know that the stranger was the Grey Lady)). The child was up there at the graveyard
where a couple of 200 years old ghosts found him and named him Nobody Owens.
The 300 citizens of the graveyard were having a democratical conversation on wether Nobody shoud
be kept by Mrs. Owens or no, when a godly lady on a white horse arrived and decided that Nobody
should be kept by Mrs. Owens. Then, Jack was walking down the hill devastated by the fact that he
couldn’t kill the toddler (Nobody), when the sound of sirens of police and ambulance hit his ears.

chapter 2
Bod is met with a girl named Scarlett, they become friends. Bod has a conversation with Pompeious
about someone burried IN the hill.
Bod and Scarlett explored a vault that Pompeious talked about but Scarlett’s parents were scared for
her so Scarlett was prohibited to visit the graveyard again.

chapter 3
this chapter finally has something going for it: Silas has to leave so Miss Lupescu takes care of him –
he doesn’t like her. Stuff happen, they study… //and then, i was like wtf is going on like this part is so
out of pocket in my opinion: three lil’ devils come and take him to a hell-like place where they are
attacked and then he falls out of a bag and then he is falling off of hell and Miss Lupescu is a batlike
creature (night gaunt) and she saves her. I mean this is so like surprising? idk i mean in the first two
chapters it was pretty boring and all and then this was just so different. Anyways, Bod’s ankle is hurt
during that trip to the hell like place; eventually this makes Bod befriend Miss Lupescu; also Silas gets
back from his tour.*also i just found out that the same guy wrote this book and Coraline which makes
a lot of sense because i remember that I watched Coraline when i was like 8 years old and it left me
disturbed for days and this part is giving the same vibe*

chapter 4
Silas tells Bod about the corner of the graveyard and he prohibits him from going there, but Bod
doesn’t give a damn and goes there anyways, where he meets a ghost named Liza. Bod is touched by
the fact that Liza wants a headstone so he goes out into the real world for the first time just to get her a
headstone. He offers a brooch that he stole from the vault at the graveyard for a headstone but instead
he is locked in a room by Abenazer , because he didn’t tell him where he got the brooch. Abenazer
calls his friend Tom, then he takes out a card from his jacket that has „Jack” on it (i really hope it is the
Jack that slaughtered Bod’s whole family, cuz i really like these kinda connections) and by touching
the card he can invite Jack. Liza then appears and helps Bod escape, and you may ask: how tf did Liza
go there? Well, since she was burried in the corner of the graveyard she has different rules; she can get
out of the graveyard during daytime. She helps him get away with magic; and Bod takes the „Jack”
card which he later gives to Silas and he also steals some stuff which he later uses to make a headstone
for Liza.
chapter 5
Bod sees that every ghost is getting ready for something, even a lil’guy who died when he was 10.
What all of’em was getting ready for was a dance called the Macabre dance, which is a dance between
the dead and the living. How does it work? Every living dances with a dead (and that’s why Silas
didn’t dance), but the next day the living forget it. Bod danced with that godly lady (her actual name is
Lady on the Grey, she appeared in chapter 1). Bod askes Silas what’s the point of this dance is. Silas
tells him that the living forget itt he next day and Bod sais that it ain’t true cuz he is living and he
haven’t forgotten it but a few minutes later he does.

chapter interlude
hooollyy molly this one is pretty epic ain’t gon’ lie. We just got a hint of what’s going on. We see that
Jack is not just a person, but everyone is called Jack in a certain organization. Now we know that
killing Bod’s family wasn’t personal but it’s part of a bigger plan. It’s getting interesting rn.

chapter 6
Bod goes to school for the first time, after a he had a fight with a ghost because of a book. There he
tries to help a fellow student because he’s being bullied (by Nick and Mo), but what he managed to do
was get the attention of the bullies. With magic, he manages to trick the bullies multiple times(for
example they chased him tot he graveyard, but he slipped using fade tactics). Because now he is
recognized by other students at the school, Silas told him that he mustn’t go to school again, but he
pranked them multiple times – even though Silas told him no to do so. Bod is on the way to the police
station with 2 corrupt police officers and Mo but manages to escape with the help of Silas. At the end
we get a reference to the Jack stroyline.

chapter 7
ok this chapter is actually pretty cool. Bod is mad because Silas always goes away (we don’t know
where). Scarlett from like the 2nd chapter reappears because her parents got divorced, so she had to
move back and she accidentaly got onto the wrong bus and she meets Mr. Frost (who is actually THE
Jack that killed Bod’s family, but we don’t know yet). Bod fantasises about his crush Scarlett, and they
meet – there Bod talks about a mysterious man „Jack” who killed his family. Scarlett, with the help of
Mr. Frost investigate and few days l8er Mr. Frost tells Scarlett that he has really important information
on that slaughter so Scarlett should bring her friend as well – which is a trap. Anyways they arrive and
JACK FROST pulls a knife on Bod but he manages to escape with Scarlett using spells. (Four other
Jacks arrive to help Jack Frost as well). They chase Bod tot he graveyard where Bod lures the Jacks
into a dangerous area. They tell him that the reason of the killing of his family is because there was a
prophacy that the gang of Jacks is going to be destroyed by a young boy. They also tell Bod that by
killing people they gain magical power. He manages to defeat the Jacks except for Jack Frost. Bod
finds Jack holding a knife to Scarlett’s throat. With magic and using every type of magical stuff (can’t
be described shortly, it’s a must-read) Bod manages to defeat Jack. Scarlett is mad at Bod, but Silas
gets back just then and wipes her memory. Silas tells Bod that Miss Lupescu is dead.

chapter 8
He is losing his abilities of the Freedom of the Graveyard, thus he leaves with the help of Silas.
He hears everyone talking in his head. Happy ending ig?

SOME THOUGHTS:
-Pretty good main storyline, but should have gotten rid of some stuff that is not related tot he
main storyline IMO.
-I most certainly postponed this book too much cuz i started it on the 6th of april afternoon
-If I understand correctly, Bod and Silas are never gonna meet, not even when he dies, cuz
Silas ain’t dead
-When I realised that the author made Coraline as well it made a lot of sense: as I explained it
in chapter three I think these two stories are really similar – and they have the same disturbing
vibe in my opinion
-I may be a dumbass but I don’t get why the store where Bod tried to sell the brooch had a
Jack card
-It would be awesome to see a movie about this book
-I forgott o write out the words I didn’t understand after chapter 1, but here are the
expressions I didn’t understand from chapter one:
