End punctuation is the punctuation that completes a sentence. Use a period at
the end of a declarative sentence. A declarative sentence makes a statement.

Use a period at the end of an imperative sentence. An imperative sentence gives a


command or request.

Use a question mark at the end of a sentence that asks a direct question.
Use an exclamation point at the end of an exclamatory sentence.
An exclamatory sentence shows great emotion or alarm.

Commas are used to separate three or more items in a series.
Cards. stationery. and newspapers were available at that store.

Do not use commas between an adjective and a noun when the adjective
describes the noun.

Commas in Sentences with
Dependent Clauses

Use commas around a dependent clause beginning with who or which in


a sentence. Dependent clauses beginning with who or which usually add
information that is not important to the meaning of a sentence.
Bob, who finally found a good job, will move his family to Alaska.
Alaska, which is the largest state in the union, has one of the
lowest populations.

Write commas around the dependent clause in each sentence.
