3d Model

The document describes a new 3D mouse design that uses an inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensor to enable intuitive six-degree-of-freedom control for 3D modeling software. The mouse features a hybrid design with a smooth base and joystick control sphere to allow both traditional and precise 3D navigation. Pressing a side button engages the IMU sensor to translate natural hand motions into cursor movements within 3D environments.

[ What is an IMU Sensor?

An IMU is a miniature electronic device that combines multiple sensors to track a device's motion and orientation in space. It typically includes:

● Accelerometer: Measures linear acceleration along various axes (X, Y, Z).

● Gyroscope: Measures angular velocity or rotation along various axes (X, Y, Z).
● Magnetometer (Optional): Measures the Earth's magnetic field, aiding in absolute orientation tracking.

How Does an IMU Work in a 6DOF Mouse?

The IMU in your 6DOF mouse continuously measures its acceleration and rotation along various axes. This data is then processed by the mouse's microcontroller unit
(MCU) to determine the overall movement and orientation of the mouse.

Benefits of IMU in 6DOF Control:

● Intuitive Control: By detecting tilting and rolling motions of the filleted bottom of the mouse, the IMU allows for a more intuitive way to manipulate
objects in 3D space compared to traditional button clicks.
● 6DOF Movement: The combination of acceleration and rotation data from the IMU enables the mouse to translate user motions into 6 degrees of freedom:
○ 3 Linear movements: Forward/backward, left/right, and up/down (similar to traditional mice).

○ ]
3 Rotational movements: Roll (tilting the mouse), pitch (tilting the front/back), and yaw (rotating the mouse left/right).
