Reflection Essay
During my high school experience, I have created and submitted numerous large
assignments but there have been many that I have had much pride for, one being my computer
science project. In this class, we were assigned to create a project that included the units prior.
For this project, I decided that I wanted to make a "Pokemon-themed" game. I was already
pleased with myself as my code was functional, but what pushed this project to be the project I
am most proud of was my grade as I not only received a 100% but also received 1st place on
the voting section where I got 9 more points in extra credit.
Looking at my full high school transcript I realized that my grades generally
stayed the same. Although my grades in high school were pretty consistent I believe the most
drastic changes in my grades specifically happened during the transitional year from middle
school to high school. Middle school was extremely difficult for me and although now I mainly
see A’s and B’s in middle school it was mostly C’s and I believe I grew a lot since then
academically. High school-wise reviewing my transcript doesn’t present much ‘grade’ growth
throughout the years, I did step into more difficult math courses during the second half of my
four years which I quite shocking as it is not my strong point.
Throughout my life I have always struggled the most in the category of mathematics,
where I was always seeing lower grades, although they are much better now, I still struggle in
the area. I hope to continuously see growth in this category. Another subject I hope to see
growth in would be English; although it is not a relatively difficult class, my lack of interest in
some of the books is an obstacle to my growth. I feel this is something that could change quite
positively as one finds interest and depth in something when they are open-minded enough to
see the deeper meaning which I hope I achieve.
GOHS has provided me with many opportunities and has provided aid when needed.
Some courses at Great Oaks such as ASL and Computer Science which I am currently taking
offer college credits. GOHS also provided a day purely for seniors to obtain more information so
students can still be successful after high school. On this day, we had the opportunity to meet
with counselors of colleges along with meeting with those in financial to get a head start towards
the students’ next step in life which was beyond helpful.
