INTRODUCTION
The first sport chosen by the researcher was table tennis, the second sport is
cricket and the last sport is volleyball. I chose table tennis because it is very
easy and I love to play that sport, for cricket I chose that sport because I
would have grown up playing that sport with my family and for volleyball I
chose that sport because it is fun. The sport that I will be doing for PE pratical
exams for CSEC from the three sports selected is table tennis.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Firstly I would like to acknowledge our school principal for allowing us to be able to host
the table tennis competition for the SBA.
In conclusion I would like to thank everyone who assisted mt throughout the competition.

SECTION 1
This section will be based on the history, rules, skills and basic knowledge of table tennis.
History
It was in England, in the late 19th century, that table tennis made its appearance. Taking
inspiration from lawn tennis, the first players belonged to middle-class Victorian society.
The first game would have been played using a champagne cork as a ball, cigar boxes as
bats and books for the net. At that point, table tennis was seen as a mere distraction for the
wealthy classes. In 1890, Englishman David Foster, attracted by its wide appeal, introduced
the first game of tennis on a table. In 1897, the first national championships were organized
in Hungary. Following a trip to the United States, in 1901 James Gibb brought back the
first celluloid ball, which was a lot lighter than the rubber balls. A year later, in 1902, E.C.
Gould, a British enthusiast of the game, introduced the first bats covered in rubber and
rubberized pimples. It was game on for the history of table tennis!
Rules
Games are played to 11 points
Alternate serves every two points
Toss the ball straight up when serving
The serve can land anywhere in singles
Doubles serves must go right court to right court
A serve that touches the net on the way over is a “let”
Alternate hitting in a doubles rally
Volleys are not allowed
If your hit bounces back over the net by itself it is your point
Touching the ball with your paddle hand is allowed
You may not touch the table with your non – paddle hand
An “edge”’ ball bouncing off the horizontal table top surface is good
Honor system applies to disagreements
Skills
The most basic table tennis skills are forehand and backhand hits, pushes, flicks, loops,
spinning the ball, and serving. Forehand hits, backhand hits, and serving are the most
fundamental skills a table tennis player needs to know.
Basic knowledge
The object is to hit the ball so that it goes over the net and bounces on the opponent's half
of the table in such a way that the opponent cannot reach it or return it correctly. The
lightweight hollow ball is propelled back and forth across the net by small rackets (bats, or
paddles) held by the players.

SECTION 2
This section will be based on the history, rules, skills and basic knowledge of cricket.
History
The sport of cricket has a known history beginning in the late 16th century. Having
originated in south-east England, it became an established sport in the country in the 18th
century and developed globally in the 19th and 20th centuries. International matches have
been played since the 19th-century and formal Test cricket matches are considered to date
from 1877. Cricket is the world's second most popular spectator sport after association
football (soccer
Rules
Cricket is a game played between two teams made up of eleven players each. There is also a
reserve player called a “twelfth man” who is used should a player be injured during play.
The twelfth man is not allowed to bowl, bat, wicket keep or captain the team. His sole duty
is to act as a substitute fielder.
The original player is free to return to the game as soon as they have recovered from their
injury.
To apply the law and make sure the cricket rules are upheld throughout the game there are
two umpires in place during games. Umpires are responsible for making decisions and
notifying the scorers of these decisions.
Two umpires are in place on the playing field while there is also a third umpire off the field
who is in charge of video decisions.
This is where the call is too close for the on-field umpires and they refer it to the third
umpire who reviews slow motion video replays to make a decision.
Skills
The most important skills needed for cricket are
batting, bowling, fielding, thorwing, wicket keeping, ctaching and running.

SECTION 3
This section will be based on the history, rules, skills and basic knowledge of volleyball.
History
Volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan, physical director of the Young
Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) in Holyoke, Massachusetts. It was designed as an
indoor sport for businessmen who found the new game of basketball too vigorous.
Rules
Only 6 players on the floor at any given time: 3 in the front row and 3 in the back row.
Points are made on every serve for the winning team of the rally (rally-point scoring).
Players may not hit the ball twice in succession (a block is not considered a hit).
Ball may be played off the net during a volley and on a serve.
A ball hitting a boundary line is in.
A ball is out if it hits an antennae, the floor completely outside the court, any of the net or
cables outside the antennae, the referee stand or pole, or the ceiling above a non-playable
area.
It is legal to contact the ball with any part of a player’s body.
It is illegal to catch, hold or throw the ball.
A player cannot block or attack a serve from on or inside the 10-foot line.
After the serve, front-line players may switch positions at the net.
Matches are made up of sets; the number depends on level of play.
Skills
The six basic volleyball skills are passing, setting, spiking, blocking, digging, and serving.
Basic knowledge
A volleyball game consists of two teams of six players each, separated by a net. The six
volleyball court positions are setter, middle blocker, outside hitter, opposite hitter, libero
and serving specialist.
To start, flip a coin to determine which team serves the ball first.
9
Then the two teams will rally—or hit the ball back and forth over the net—until a fault
occurs. There is a maximum of three hits per side.
The objective is to score points by sending the ball over the net, grounding it into the
opponent’s court.
Volleyball matches are made up of sets, typically three or five sets.
Three-set matches are two sets to 25 points and a third set to 15 points. Each set must be
won by two points. The first team to win two sets is the winner of the match.
Five-set matches are four sets to 25 points and a fifth set to 15 points. The team must win
by two points unless tournament rules dictate otherwise. The first team to win three sets is
the winner.
