Control MPC-EC

Product description:
Control MPC-EC is a multi-pump controller designed for control and monitoring of up to six identical Grundfos
speed controlled pumps. Control MPC-EC is used for control of pumps in circulation systems for heating, cooling
and air-conditioning.

Control MPC-EC ensures optimum adaptation of the performance to the demand by closed-loop control of these
parameters:
- differential pressure
- flow rate
- temperature
- differential temperature.

Control MPC-EC incorporates a control cabinet with a CU 352 multi-pump controller, a main switch with door
interlock and all the necessary components and wiring. The control cabinet is designed for floor standing.

Sequence of Operation:
Control MPC-EC features a built-in start-up wizard in a wide range of languages that guides the installer through
a series of steps until the system is correctly installed and commissioned. When the installation is complete, the
Control MPC-EC will operate according to customer’s special requirements. A large, user-friendly LCD colour
display will ensure that day-to-day operation is equally easy.

- The Control MPC-EC is controlled by the process value feedback from an analog signal transmitter
connected to the controller CU352
- Based on the feedback, Control MPC-EC maintains the setpoint through continuous adjustment of the
speed of the pumps.
- The system performance is adjusted to the demand through cutting in/out the required number of pumps
and through parallel control of the pumps in operation.
- Pump changeover is automatic and depends on load, operating hours and fault.
- All pumps in operation will run at equal speed.

The number of pumps in operation also depends on the energy consumption of the pumps. If only one pump is
required, two pumps will be running at a lower speed if this results in a lower energy consumption. This requires
that the differential pressure of the pump is measured. The multi pump control unit CU 352 in the control MPC-
EC contains an application-optimized software and pump curve data. The CU 352 thus knows the exact hydraulic
and electrical data of the pumps to be controlled. Furthermore, a log function enables monitoring of the system
performance over a period of time.

(For the detailed sequence of operation refer Control MPC Installation and Operation Manual)

Functions:
Control MPC-EC incorporates the setting/monitoring of the following functions:
- Setpoint
- Warnings and alarms
- Alarm log (storage of up to 24 warnings and alarms)
- PID controller with adjustable PI parameters (Kp + Ti)
- Alternative setpoints - setting of up to six alternative setpoints (Option)
- External setpoint influence (letting measured parameters influence the setpoint)
- Primary sensor setup (selection of the control parameter of the system)
- Clock program (setting of setpoints and time and day for their activation)
- Min. time between start/stop of pumps (setting a delay between the starting/stopping of one pump)
- Max. number of starts/hour (limitation of the number of starts/stops per hour)
- Standby pump allocation (selection of one or more pumps as standby pumps)
- Forced pump changeover (setting of pump changeover so that pumps run for the same number of
operating hours)
- Pump test run (prevents pumps from seizing up and liquid from decaying in pumps, and removes
trapped air)
- Pilot pump (control of pilot-pump operation in low-flow situations)
- Pump stop attempt (automatic stop attempts, self-learning or at fixed intervals)
- Pump start and stop speeds (control of start and stop speeds of pumps)
- Min. performance (selection of minimum performance)
- Stop function (stop of the last pump in operation during low-flow situations)
- Soft pressure build-up (ensures smooth start-up of systems with empty pipes)
- Emergency run (pumps keep running regardless of warnings and alarms)
- Setting of digital inputs
- Setting of analog inputs
- Setting of digital outputs
- Setting of min., max. and user-defined duty
- Pump curve data (entering of data describing the performance curves)
- Control source (control from the CU 352 or via bus connection)
- Fixed inlet pressure (setting of fixed inlet pressure) (Option)
- Flow estimation (optimization of operation according to performance curves)
- Dry-running protection (with pressure/level switch, pressure transmitter or level transmitter)
- Min. pressure (monitoring of minimum pressure)
- Max. pressure (monitoring of maximum pressure)
- External fault (monitoring of external fault)
- Limit exceeded 1 and 2 (monitoring of a set limit 1 (warning limit) and limit 2 (alarm limit))
- Pumps outside duty range (indication of whether pumps are running outside duty range)
- Display language (selection of display language)
- Display units (SI or US units)
- Date and time (setting of day and time)
- Passwords (setting of password for menu Operation and/or Settings)
- Ethernet RJ45 connection (control of the system from a remote PC)
- GENIbus number (allocation of GENIbus number)
- Software status (status of software version).
