Course Description: This interdisciplinary course is designed to introduce students to the


concept of sustainable entrepreneurship, a manageable process that can be applied across
careers and work settings. It focuses on building entrepreneurial attitudes and behaviors that
will lead to creative solution within community and organizational environments. Course topics
include nature of entrepreneurship, the concept of business planning, business formation in
terms of ownership, product development using systematic and procedural approach, basics of
marketing, sources of financing for startup and when decided to grow, basics of business ethics
and corporate social responsibility including the transition from start up to growth.

Course Objective: At the end of this course students will be able to:
Define the term entrepreneurship and entrepreneur
Identify opportunity in the environment
Recognize the role of entrepreneurship in the economy
Explain the concept of business planning and develop business plan
Analyze the Importance/Role of MSEs
Describe the Concept of Product and Services
Discuss the Intellectual Property Protection
Define marketing concepts
Describe the role of marketing in achieving the goals of a business enterprise
Apply the various marketing mixes and strategies in their businesses
Know the different sources of finance to start a business venture
Learn about traditional financing in Ethiopia
Identify factors that affect business growth
Understand business expansion strategies
Know & internalize business ethics & social responsibilities.

Teaching & Learning Methods: Lecture, Term paper (preparation of Business plan)
Attendance Requirements: 80% and above to sit for the Final Examination
Evaluation Scheme: Test I – 15%, Test II – 15%, Term paper – 20% and Final Exam – 50%.
