What is it like to earn 50-60 LPA in India?

Earning anything above 20 LPA will put you in the
top 3% of all earning class in India. Now, 50 lacs is
a really solid number to chase in a career. Good
thing today is that many organizations (Indian as
well as MNCs) are hiring executives and associates
for strategic and product management roles in the
technology industries hire for high packages. Even
gaming and blockchain companies sort of pay this
salary.
what it feels like? You will be paying anywhere
between 10–12 lacs every year to income tax
(which is good overall). More income means you
will spend lavishly on things you probably don’t
need like cars, gadgets, holidays, house, events,
and others. You pay additional tax on things you
buy.

The only worthy thing you probably could do with

this much money is buy land for farming or put into
higher education and upskilling certification.

Honestly, 50 lacs will feel like pennnies if you have s

80 lacs slipping into debts and bankruptcy due to
bad decisions and family circle.

it into a flexible savings account that lets you invest
in the market. No lock-ins or fixed deposits
obligations.

invest in your health insurance and life cover of up

to 5 CRORE so that your family doesn’t suffer.
constantly look to scale your earning capacity and
start a side gig that you can put to good use
commercially if you lose your earning job.

time.

There are many who believe that Jawaharlal

Nehru had given up drinking all together after
gaining prominence in the Congress Party, but
this very clearly was not the case. Prime Minister
Nehru did drink alcohol and was not vegetarian,
this was also the case with his daughter Prime
Minister Indira Gandhi. However, neither was a
drunkard. It was well known in many circles that
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi liked smoked Salmon
sandwiches which Air India knew all too well and
they were often kept on board. In those days the
Prime Minister would fly first class often sharing
the First Class Seats with other passengers. There
were eight seats in that configuration in the 1960s
and 1970s. Prime Minister Nehru and his daughter
Indira did not receive the same lectures from
Mahatma Gandhi that other Congress leaders did
about vegetarianism and its absolute need to
create a mind over matter effect. While these are
the facts many wish to over exaggerate them. The
truth is that Prime Minister Nehru drank when he

know about this this, never cared much about it.
The idea of intruding on personal matters had not
yet gained ground and ability. At the time images
were managed and alcohol, meat and other
dietary choices which could offend many in the
Indian public were simply not shown.

Why am I not attracted to anyone anymore?

30 year old woman here. In my case, I used to have
a high sex drive from my 21-26 years old. I found
men of that age (my age at that time or slightly
younger) very attractive. I would find everyone
attractive in their own way.

I am 30 now and find that men ageing like fine wine

are a myth. I mean some do, as some women do.
But it's definitely not a norm. Men i may find
attractive typically have a girlfriend already or may

Why do so many Indian couples struggle

financially even after earning in lakhs per
month?
Mr. X and Ms. Y, are couple & planning to get
married in 2 years.

Mr. X earns 30 LPA and Ms. Y earns 20 LPA (for

example).

I have been working as a wealth management

consultant for many years now.

I come across at least 5–10 new faces every

day, as I have to mostly give a final verdict in
all deals that happen under our roof.

I am also called a very good observer by my

close people, and I try to understand certain
human behaviour & psychology.

Taking this ideal couple (50 LPA income at such

young stage), here are the reasons I think why
many Indian couples struggle financially even after
earning in lakhs per month:

Buying Houses too Early: Mr. X has lived

away from his native place mostly and
have a feeling of buying his own house as
soon as he starts earning.

Mr. X is the most common example

who come to us at GoldBucks
Realty for their 1st house
purchase. He is a first time buyer,
who have a feeling of showing the
world around him that he is doing
good in life, and what can be better
than buying a house to prove it?
Also, he has to ask the hands of
Ms. Y from his father, and how
could he even be in the
competition if he doesn’t have a
house of his own. But Mr. X
forgets these basic factors about
money management:

i. When you buy a house on a

home loan, you tend to buy
something which is beyond
your capabilities. Most of
times, couples put close to
40–50% of their income
(whatever their banks and
credit scores allow) into
Home Loan EMI and start
struggling the moment they
are introduced to new kind
of other expenses in life
they have not factored
earlier.

ii. For example, for a good 2

BHK house in Noida
Extension, you need to
spend roughly 65–70
Lakhs, whereas for a 3 BHK,
the cost would be a
minimum of 1 crore in a
good society, not luxury (as
of 2023). You need 10-20%
of the value upfront as DP
to apply a home loan for the
rest 80% of the cost.

iii. Which again shows that to

buy a house worth 1 crore,
you need a saving of 20
Lakh. Now the 1st 20 Lakh
you managed somehow
living in hostels and saving
everywhere you could.

iv. But when it comes to

paying the loan amount
for the remaining 80
Lakh, the EMI would be
80k a month, at 10.5%
rate of interest (current
ROI of SBI), paying 1.11
crore as interest over the
top of the loan in 20
years, making the house
cost you 2.1 crore in total.

v. Now understand the

scenario, you bought the
house for your comfort &
utilisation, but now the
house is consuming you
more than you’re
consuming it.

Anyways, Mr. X ignores it and in order to prove

himself, he purchases something which would
eat all his income in the coming years.

Buying Luxury Cars on Loan: Mr. X

travelled thru auto and metro all his college
life, but now he’s placed into a well paying
MNC. His standard of living has improved
and now he feels an urge of buying a car,
because Mr. X is planning his marriage and
a car is now a basic necessity.
 Cool. That’s not the problem. The
problem is all the friends of Mr. X
bought cars worth 15 Lakh. Now to
prove that Mr. X has arrived in life,
he would forget the basic necessity
of having a car, and would now look
for a luxury segment SUV with
open roof and loaded of features
(that are not even required).

Now the budget goes to 25

Lakh, but no problem,
banks are giving 100%
loans on ex-showroom
prices and even including
insurances into it and bang,
Mr. X bought the car worth
25 Lakh by just paying 3
Lakh as DP. Now Mr. X
would pay an EMI close to
35k a month, for 7 years,
with 7 lakh in interests over
the top of 22 Lakh, making
the whole purchase worth
3+22+9 = 32 Lakh
(approx.).

Fuel and Maintenance

consumes another 15k a
month.

But again, it was also necessary because

earning 30 LPA in late 20s in itself gives a
sense of pride, and what’s wrong buying a car
worth less than the annual CTC of Mr. X?
Nothing.

Now, Mr. X has to get married, but he has put up all

the savings into buying the house and car. A lot of
money every month is being eaten by these 2
products only which he thought would add value to
his lifestyle and make him happy.

Ms. Y has fought for her love and got her family
agreed. They’re ready for marriage and would incur
all the expenses which the girl’s side is expected to
incur.

Now Mr. X has to arrange funds for his side

expenses, which at minimum would cost the
following items:

1. Reception venue, catering, decoration, DJ,

etc.

2. Jewellery for his bride

3. Dresses for his bride, her family and close

relatives

4. Dresses for himself, his family and close

relatives

5. Gifts for everyone necessary

6. Vehicles, Rath, Band etc. for his Barat

7. All other miscellaneous expenses, which

he has not factored even

Now, considering Mr. X comes from a middle class

background, 15 Lakh is the minimum amount he
needs for all of these things (bare minimum I say).

But he has no funds, so he would go for a personal

loan from some NBFC if they find him eligible to
sponsor.

15 Lakh, for 5 Years, 15% rate of interest translates

to 35k a month EMI.

But yes, he has to do that, mandatorily.

Because if he doesn’t, the social respect his
family has earned would go in vain and he
would loose his social acceptance.

Mr. X and Ms. Y are married. Mr. X has to pay

80+22+15 = 1.17 crore of principal debt and 1.25
crore as interest for house, car & marriage
(mandatory things for social acceptance) i.e.
around 2.5 crores in the coming 20 years. He is
paying a total of 80+35+35 = 1.5 Lakh per month
into EMIs apart from other expenses like ration,
fuel, taking care of parents, etc. which comes
around to be a minimum of 50k a month. 55k a
month is also being deducted as Tax on a fixed
income of 30 LPA by the employer, making Mr. X
poor by 5k every month. This is how Mr. X
screws his life.

Ms. Y is now Mrs. Y and her 20 LPA income is being

added to the family. She has also realized by now
that both of them has to pay back the entire loan
amount of 2.5 crores (inclusive of interest).

But she has also dreams which she thought of

completing after marriage. She has to take care of
all remaining expenses like clothes, shoes, kitchen,
utensils, home décor, CA fees, health insurance,
travelling to home town, trips, attending other’s
weddings, buying gifts and many other things
which I can not think of now. She also pays 30k as
TDS on her 20 LPA fixed salary.

Now both of them are under pressure of having a

baby, and all set to pay their 3–4 Lakh tuition fees,
as they’re earning 50 LPA and why should his
children not attend best of the schools in town?

I have a friend named Vishal. He was chatting with a
girl on instagram and both of them liked each other.
They met a few times and finally came in a
relationship. Both of them were kinda perfect for
each other. I can't say about her but Vishal used to

the issue together would make your bond
stronger. A break up is something that should

so bad that it isn't worth it working on.

What irritates you?

For the last 23 years, Priyanka Vadra was living in

35-Lodhi Estate in Delhi, Without any official
government position.

Do you know how much rent she paid for that

2765 sq metre bungalow? I will explain to you in
detail.

In 1997 Priyanka Vadra was allotted luxury

Lutyens Type VI Bungalow, Between 2001-2003,
she was paying ₹28,451, but the Government
Fixed-rate was ₹53,421, approx 50% discount
was given, In 2002 she wrote a letter to the then
government (Vajpayee Ji) and told them that she
got the bungalow not because she wants it but
because she comes under SPG protectee, means,
She cited SPG PROTECTION status to seek
concession.

After 2003, the ₹28,451 rent went into a 'SWEET

RENT DEAL' of ₹8,888, approx 69% concession.

And then between 2003-2020, She paid ₹8,888

(2003) to ₹37,400 (June 2020), measly ₹1700
(₹150 per month) per year Increase.

An ordinary citizen has to pay Rs 20 lakh/ month

for a Type VI bungalow in Delhi and she literally
bargained to pay 'PEANUTS'.

A woman with a wealth of billions can do this kind

of act, a bit SHOCKING for me.

2800 crore and ebidta margin is quite less worst of
all is it’s ROCE is around 3–4%. You need to keep
on pumping of cash in order to run it’s business.

ITC situation can be very well summed up using the

below graph:

So you can see cigarettes business is contributing

for it’s growth. Whatever cash is generated in
cigarettes business is being pumped into FMCG &
hotels to fuel it’s growth. It’s like taking cash from
very intelligent person and giving it to dumb person
to spend.

1. cigarette business is expected to grow

around 10–15% and keep providing a
sustainable margin for ITC as a company ,
you can’t bet on cigarette business for
multibagger because it has no room to
grow faster than this.

2. FMCG business is something you can

expect to grow at rate of 15–20%, you can
expect it to be a turnaround business it
margins are improving. But room for
growth is also limited because FMCG
industry as a whole is not expected to
grow beyond 10–12% and with huge
competition from many small D2C brands
it would be a crowded market for sure and
margins can’t a expand beyond a certain
limit.

3. Hotel business is something which you can’t

expect to grow because it is highly capital intensive
and good news is that Hotel business is being
demerged which would unlock the potential for
share holders .

My final verdict is that , ITC as a company you can

expect a growth of around 10–15% CAGR with 2–
3% margin expansion in near future . So it is upto
you whether you wanna buy it or not.
