PILOT EMERGENCY CHECKLIST
DITCHING
1. Flight Crew don life vests - secure all loose equipment in cockpit
2. Lights to bright / Stow Acoustical Curtain
3. SIC Situation Overview to Passengers- Distribute safety briefing cards
4. Life Vests- DO NOT INFLATE Don vest and demo to passengers
5. Reseat Passengers- Give ABP’s a seat; ensure they can locate the flashlight
6. Brief ABP’s on Life Rafts first, then Exit Window(s) Operations- Have ABP(s)
repeat the instructions back to you
7. Seat Belt Demo/Shoulder Harness- Have passengers practice operation
8. Brace Position Demo/Raise Headrests- Have passengers show you positions
9. Secure Cabin and Galley/Raise Window Shades Remove dangerous items from
passengers and cabin(Belts with buckles, jewelry)
10. Additional Items/Distribute Motion Sickness Medications (if available).Place
medical kit and survival items in water proof bags and stow securely
11. Buddy system- Do not forget yourself and other crewmember(s)
12. Personal Preparation- Change clothes and void bladder
13. Review (time permitting)- Commands and procedures with passengers
14. Adjust lights- To outside conditions
15. Advise Captain – Cabin is Secure. Give total number of souls on board
16. After aircraft stops moving - “Stay Seated”: Proceed to raft compartment, obtain
and secure raft to seat nearest exit. Assess conditions, open exit, deploy raft.
“Open Seat Belts, Come This Way, Leg-Body-Leg, Inflate Your Vest On the
Wing, follow line to Raft ”

LAND
1. Secure all loose equipment in the cockpit
2. Lights to bright / Stow Acoustical Curtain
3. Situation Overview to Passengers- Distribute safety briefing cards
4. Reseat Passengers- Give ABP(s) a seat; ensure they can locate a
flashlight and PBE
5. Brief ABP’s on Exits- (Over wing, main cabin door, and baggage door
operations) Have ABP repeat instructions back to you
6. Seat Belt /Shoulder Harness Demo- Have passengers practice
operation
7. PBE Demo (wet towels)- Passengers to don at “Brace” signal
8. Brace Position Demo/Raise Headrests (if available) Have passengers
practice positions
9. Secure Cabin and Galley/Raise Window Shades- Remove dangerous
items from passengers and cabin
10. Obtain Additional Items- Place medical kit, survival items in waterproof
bags and stow securely
11. Buddy System- Do not forget yourself and other crewmember
12. Personal preparation – change clothes, void bladder
13. Adjust Lights - to outside conditions
14. Report Cabin Secure- Give total number of souls on board to the PIC.
Review (time permitting)- commands and procedures with passengers
15. When aircraft stops moving -“Stay Seated” Proceed to appropriate
assess conditions, open exit, “Open Seat Belts, Come This Way, Leg-
Body-Leg, Run Away ”
