HOW TO
HEAR
GOD’S
VOICE
A 21 DAY DEVOTIONAL
ON HEARING GOD
HOW TO
USE THIS
DEVOTIONAL
What does it look like to hear from God?
God wants to have a personal relationship with us and if we ask Him
questions expectantly, God will respond to our prayers. He is so kind to
speak and reveal Himself to us. Just like any good relationship it involves
to people speaking back and forth. We talk to God a lot, but we rarely
take time to listen to Him. This devotional will focus on you listening to
Him.
You will need:
• Your Bible
• A prayer journal
• Two different colored pens (one color for your words and
another for the words you hear from God)
• 30-45 minutes of uninterrupted time with God
First, find a quiet place where you can sit without distractions for 30 or so
minutes. We know this can be challenging with a busy schedule, but we
know that it is near impossible to really focus on God if you feel rushed.
Next, examine your heart, you may want to begin in scripture, and ask
the Lord to protect you in Jesus name from deception. After reading
today’s passage, take a moment to focus on the Application portion for
the day. Ask the Lord to speak clearly in a way that you can understand.
Next, pause and listen. God has a lot to say to us. Be sure you are willing
to listen. Lastly, make sure to write down everything you feel the Lord is
saying in your prayer journal.
After you feel you have written everything down, it is helpful to ask this
series of “test it questions” to see if what you heard is from the Lord:
1. Does it uplift Christ?
2. Does it line up with scripture?
3. Do other mature Christians confirm it?
4. Does it produce good fruit?
5. Does God allow it to come to fruition?
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
We believe that God speaks to His children in the
present day. Our hope is that as you use this devotional,
your relationship with the Lord will deepen and you’ll be
empowered to hear His voice in your everyday life.
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

D AY 1
IS OUR PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP
WITH JESUS REALLY PERSONAL?
“And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and
Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”
JOHN 17:3
How many Christians do you know say they have a personal
relationship with Jesus, but actually struggle to feel
connected to Him? It’s not easy to cultivate a relationship
with someone we can't see. Does your prayer time seem
like a one-sided conversation with only you talking? When
was the last time you sat in silence and waited on the Lord
to speak?
These are common problems in the faith journey. We
desperately want a connection with God, but don’t know
how to cultivate it! A helpful shift can be looking at the
most important relationships in our lives as an example. It’s
safe to say these rich relationships are a two-way street—
they involve give and take. God wants the same thing for
His connection with us. We need to give Him more space
to speak. It may be awkward at first, because silence in
conversations can be uncomfortable, but that’s okay.
Patience in this process can lead to a deeper relationship
with God and isn’t that what we’re all longing for?
APPLICATION:
Spend time in prayer asking God these questions.
1. God, is my walk with you really personal? When has it been most personal?
2. How do I hear your voice?
3. Where do I start? How can I begin to grow more in my walk with you?
D AY 2
GOD WANTS TO
RELATE TO US
“Call to me and I will answer you and will tell you great and hidden
things that you have not known.”
JEREMIAH 33:3
Relationship. Throughout scripture, we see God seeking to
be in a relationship with His people. He loves us and wants
our love in return. As an infinite being, God wants to relate
to us in so many ways: protector, provider, friend, confidant,
teacher, and especially, Father. He wants to relate to us the
way a father might relate to his children.
One obstacle in responding to God’s love is our need for
approval. We spend so much time seeking approval from
different areas of the world when we already have all the
approval we need from Him. Remember when you were a
kid and your dad said he was proud of you? You felt like
you could take on anything. Or maybe your dad withheld
his approval and you felt the deep sting of that void. While
humans may fail us, we need not seek approval from
anywhere but Him. In order to feel the depths of His love, we
need to approach Him with the desire to be in a relationship.
It’s what He wants and it’s what our souls deeply desire as
well.
APPLICATION:
Take a moment to write a love letter to God in your journal. Express the deep longings
of your heart. Thank Him for all He’s given you. Then, sit in silence for a moment. The
Lord may want to share something from His own heart with you.
Scripture meditation: Psalm 119:58. Pray and ask God to show you what He wants you
to learn from this passage.
D AY 3
HOW DOES OUR HEAVENLY
FATHER COMMUNICATE?
“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our
fathers by the prophets.”
HEBREWS 1:1
Communication happens in a variety of ways with the
people around us. Words, sounds, body language, hand
gestures, and so forth. Our communication even extends
beyond the present to devices, phone calls, and texts. What
if we decided certain relationships should only have one
type of communication such as hand gestures? Imagine how
silly that would be.
Similarly to how we do not limit our communication with
our fellow human beings, God wants to have the freedom
to communicate in unique ways as well. He is infinite and
therefore has infinite ways to get our attention. Some
examples include through scripture, through others, through
circumstances and events, impressions, audibly, inwardly,
through surprising means (a burning bush), visions, dreams,
and demonstrations of power (miracles). A mistake we can
make is thinking God will communicate the same way with
us that He might with others. Just like we all have different
love languages, God knows us better than anyone else and
has His own means of communicating with us. We limit our
relationship with Him when we limit the possibilities of how
He can communicate. If we allow Him to, He will wow us
with how He communicates.
APPLICATION:
Spend time in prayer asking God these questions.
1. What are some ways in which you have spoken to me in the past?
2. How have I quenched your Spirit when you wanted to speak to me?
3. Is there anything I’m doing now that is quenching your Spirit?
4. Have I limited the ways in which you’ve desired to speak?
If all of those questions seem overwhelming, pick the one that jumps out at you and give
Him space to answer.
D AY 4
GOD’S COMMUNICATION
PRINCIPLES
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
JOHN 10:27
As you pursue your relationship with the Lord and desire
deep connection, one of the obstacles you may find is that
your relationship feels very one-sided. As is true with any
relationship in life, the best relationships are the ones that
are two-way.
A two-way relationship is one that requires work and
attention. To help cultivate the connection we seek with
God, we can focus on doing the following things: ask
questions, expect a response (and wait for one), focus on
eliminating interruptions and distractions, learn to recognize
His voice, use a variety of forms of communication, expect
affection from God and also give it, and finally, be honest
with Him. It is important for us to intentionally quiet
ourselves when we approach our time with Him. He desires
connection just like we do and He longs to express His love
to us and He delights in our expressions of love for Him. As
He seeks us, we can break the one-sided relationship we
may have created. A wholehearted seeking involves deep,
intimate dialogue laced with expressions of affection. This is
one reason God tells us to worship and praise him.
APPLICATION:
Spend time in prayer asking God these questions.
1. Is there anything you would like me to try doing as I attempt to
converse with you?
2. Have I failed to expect you to respond or give you time to respond?
How so?
3. Are there any questions you’d like me to ask you or anything you’d
like to share with me?
D AY 5
HOW TO START A
CONVERSATION WITH GOD
“No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know
what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I
have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”
JOHN 15:15
So you’ve bought into the idea of working on your
relationship with the Lord. Guess what? God not only wants
a relationship with you, but He wants to be your friend.
Jesus even calls us friends in the Bible.
While relationships require time and energy, it’s important
to remember that we were made to have a personal
relationship with Him. How do you practically go about
deepening your friendship? These four principles can help:
Focus: Begin by meditating on scripture
Repent: Ask “are we ok?”
Ask: Ask the Lord for His counsel
Listen: Wait for Him to respond
By focusing, repenting, asking, and listening, you can begin
to cultivate the kind of relationship you crave—one of
deep connection and friendship. We need to pay attention
to what He cares about (which He kindly provided in
scripture), we need to repent where we may have failed,
we need to ask for His counsel, and then give Him space to
answer.
APPLICATION:
Meditate on the following verse. What could the Lord be showing you through this verse?
“Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
JEREMIAH 29: 12-13
D AY 6
GOD SPEAKS
THROUGH THE BIBLE
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching,
for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the
man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
TIMOTHY 3:16-17
While learning to discern God’s voice can be challenging,
He was kind enough to give us His word: “The Bible is the
starting place in our pursuit of a personal relationship with
God because it is his revelation of Himself to mankind. He
revealed Himself to us in His inspired, infallible Scriptures
because He loves us.” Scripture is God’s way of showing
Himself to us and is something we can depend on because
it is never-changing.
Knowing Scripture is our starting point, we must remember
to not limit God to just one form of communication.
He wants to have the freedom to develop His unique
relationship with you: “God created you. He wants to have
a personal relationship with you more than you want to
connect with Him.” Think about that. He wants to be in
relationship with you more than you yearn to connect with
Him. By giving Him space to speak in new ways, knowing
we can always return to Scripture, we open the door for the
formation of a unique, and rich relationship with Him.
APPLICATION:
Spend time in prayer asking God these questions.
1. Lord, have I failed to look to the Bible for guidance in my life?
2. Have I failed to keep an open mind about the ways you may choose to speak to me?
3. How have you chosen to speak to me in the past?
D AY 7
GETTING CONTROL OF
YOUR THOUGHT LIFE
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable,
whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is
commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy
of praise, think about these things.”
PHILIPPIANS 4:8
While our desire to connect to God may be strong,
sometimes our thought life gets in the way. These thoughts
can become distractions to the point that our minds are
so full it we struggle to focus on Him. God did not leave
us without help. We have His thoughts in Scripture: “God
wants to put the spotlight on your thought life. He wants
to exchange your thoughts for his thoughts.” He desires
to help rid you of those distracting thoughts, and we are
encouraged to take back our thought life for the purpose of
leaving more space in our lives to just be with God. It can be
difficult to hear anything if we are incapable of silencing our
own thoughts.
God cares about us and wants to be the most important
thing in our lives. Our thought life can be a good test of how
much attention we are giving to Him. By working towards
taking back our thought life and by giving Him permission
to re-direct our thoughts to what is pleasing to Him, we can
regain balance and create more space for connection with
Him.
APPLICATION:
Read: Philippians 4:8
Write or draw: Something that represents something God has given you that
represents each of these words: true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, and
praiseworthy.
Pray: Heavenly Father, please show me how I can begin exchanging my thoughts for
yours. Show me which of my thoughts get in the way of your thoughts and what to
do about that.
Wait: In silence as the Holy Spirit reveals truth to you.
D AY 8
HOW DO
WE LISTEN?
“In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my
requests before you and wait expectantly.”
PSALM 5:3
Have you ever tried to hold a conversation with a child?
They don’t really know what they’re doing. They just join
in randomly, say things that are completely unrelated to
the subject at hand, and just trail off and forget the subject
completely. They’re just learning how to talk like the grown
ups do. The art of conversation is full of little unwritten
laws and obstacles that we have to navigate. These can be
really frustrating to learn, and take a long time to get used
to. So why are we so much harder on ourselves when we’re
learning to speak to God?
When talking to God, create a space for Him to speak. Come
prepared to listen and be in conversation. Ask questions.
Acknowledge responses. And most importantly, understand
that we are not always promised a response. By engaging in
the exercise of conversation with God, you’ll get better and
better at hearing His voice.
APPLICATION:
Spend time in prayer asking God these questions.
1. How do I focus my mind on you?
2. Is there anything you want to say to me now?
3. Are there any questions you would have me ask you?
D AY 9
GOD SPEAKS THROUGH
IMPRESSIONS
“My thoughts are not your thoughts.”
ISAIAH 55:8
No one is 100% accurate all the time. Even the disciples
argued over what they felt God was telling them (Paul
and Barnabas in Acts 15). In fact, even those who say God
only speaks through the Bible still have to interpret what
scripture means, and a lot of times they are wrong.
Sometimes, it can seem scary to share with someone what
we feel God is speaking over our lives. We’re afraid of
being wrong. God often speaks to us through impressions
that often seem like our own thoughts. God knows that we
are fallible, but He allows us to deepen our walk with Him
by taking the risk of speaking on His behalf. Our job is to
grow in discernment by taking risks and speaking out the
impressions we feel God is giving us.
APPLICATION:
Spend time in prayer asking God these questions.
1. God, I have a hard time distinguishing between my own thoughts and your voice.
How can I tell the difference between the two?
2. What do you want me to do to hear your voice better?
3. Is there anything you want to share with me today?
D AY 1 0
CAN GOD
TRUST YOU?
“The Lord your God is in your midst,
a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.”
ZEPHANIAH 3:17
Too often God speaks to us and we disregard what he has
said, proving that we can’t be trusted. We spend time with
Him, we hear from him, and then we fail to follow through
on what he’s shared with us. We need to realize that in the
same way we want to know that we can trust God, He also
want to know that He can trust us.
As you are praying and asking the Lord to speak, write
down what you hear Him saying so you won’t forget. Test it
against the 5 questions in the “How to use this Devotional”
section. Then, be obedient. If we accidentally misinterpret
what God said, it’s OK, He can handle it! Our understanding
and communication skills with God will develop over time.
“Debrief” your experience afterwards and ask yourself if
what you heard was actually from the Lord. Obedience is
like a muscle. If we work it out in the small things then soon
enough we will find that we can be trusted with the big stuff
that really matters.
APPLICATION:
Write in your journal the things that keep you from being faithful and obedient to God
(fear, insecurity, unforgiveness, etc.) Give each one individually to God and ask how
you can be obedient in the midst of them.
D AY 1 1
LISTENING LEADS
TO MINISTRY
“So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not
return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and
shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
ISAIAH 55:11
Our job is to be ambassadors for God, to literally speak on
His behalf. Many of us don’t understand the importance or
the power that this responsibility holds. We often default
into the mode of doing “good works” but our duty as
Christians goes so far beyond this. We have to move out of
this passive posture by putting ourselves in a position to
speak on God’s behalf with others.
This is why being a part of a local ministry or going on a
mission trip is so important. When we are actively working
in ministry, we rid ourselves of distractions and put aside
OUR agenda to focus on HIS agenda, fulfilling the Great
Commission! Spend time today asking the Lord how you
can be an ambassador for Him. What opportunities to serve
in ministry has God placed in your life? Is there a ministry
or service opportunity you feel Him leading you to?
APPLICATION:
Pray this prayer:
Jesus, I thank you that your method has always been to send your disciples out. And I
confess that too often I get in a comfort zone. You have called me a sheep and called
yourself a shepherd. You tell us there are enemies. Please show me what this means
for me today. I pray that your truth would find its way to my heart today.
Wait in silence as the Holy Spirit reveals truth to you.
D AY 1 2
THE ROLE OF
THE HOLY SPIRIT
“Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go
away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I
go, I will send him to you.”
JOHN 16:7
Hearing from God is impossible if we ignore the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit applies God’s written word and gives us
decision-making, wisdom, and good counsel. He is meant
to help us in discerning God’s voice and knowing how to
interpret His words for us. However, too often we view the
Trinity as the Father, the Son, and the Bible. As Christians
we must strive to understand and relate to the wholeness of
God, including the Holy Spirit.
In your quiet time today, ask God if you have ignored the
Holy Spirit. How can you work today to better understand
the wholeness of God, using the Holy Spirit to grant you
wisdom and good counsel?
APPLICATION:
Spend time in prayer asking God these questions.
1. How can I grow in my understanding of you Lord?
2. Where have I shut out your Holy Spirit in my Life?
3. What discernment do I need to hear from the Holy Spirit today?
D AY 1 3
LEARNING TO PRAY
CONTINUALLY
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all
circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
1 THESSALONIANS 5:16-18
When you first started this devotional, the thought of
writing in a prayer journal may have seemed difficult or
foreign. We hope that by now, the practice of writing down
your conversations with God has helped make hearing from
Him easier and more routine. However, there comes a time
when having a routine can become more restrictive than
helpful.
The Bible teaches us to “pray without ceasing”, meaning
that our prayer life wasn’t meant to be confined to a few
minutes every morning. It is important for us to push our
comfort zones and move our conversations with God
outside of just our devotional times. Throughout your day,
practice conversing with God. Ask Him questions, wait
patiently for answers, and then act in obedience. When we
can learn to pray continuously, our relationship with God
will seem less like a daily phone call and more like a partner
we walk through life with.
APPLICATION:
Meditate on the following verse. What could the Lord be showing you through this verse?
“And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk
in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.”
ISAIAH 30:21
D AY 1 4
DEALING WITH
DISTRACTION
“May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
PSALM 19:14
How often do you find yourself zoning out while looking at
your phone? It’s easy to distract yourself on social media
with hours and hours of mindless scrolling. What started
out as a way to kill a few minutes can completely fill our
heads with worldly thoughts that lead to anxiety, stress,
and regret. In those moments, we have to realize that there
is a battle raging in our heads and God doesn’t want to
compete for our attention. He’ll wait for our pinball brains to
stop bouncing from one thing to the next and settle on Him.
Think about all the things that compete for your attention
each day. How often do you allow yourself to be distracted
by the world? When you feel your mind slipping, take
a deep breath. Ask the Lord “What would YOU like me
to focus on today?” When you learn to tune out the
distractions, you create space to focus on the Lord and
allow Him to speak. If you feel your mind wander simply
pray "I take authority over my mind in Jesus name."
APPLICATION:
Spend time in prayer asking God these questions.
1. What distractions in my life have kept me from focusing on you?
2. Is there anything in my life I’ve allowed to cause anxiety, fear, or regret?
3. What would YOU like me to focus on today?
D AY 1 5
GROWING
DEEP ROOTS
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we
will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
GALATIANS 6:9
As you work to learn how to hear from the Lord, there
are bound to be setbacks. You feel like you were given a
word from God, but it never comes to pass. You ask God a
question and don’t feel like you’re receiving an answer. It’s
easy to feel defeated when this happens, but it’s important
to remember that relationships take time to grow.
Don’t let setbacks affect your attitude towards listening
prayer. If you feel like you’re not hearing from God, use that
to push you deeper into what God may be trying to do
in your life. In what ways have you experienced setbacks
in hearing from God? How has this affected your attitude
towards listening prayer? If you can continue to pursue the
Lord even when it seems hard, you’ll see your relationship
with God grow stronger and stronger with time.
APPLICATION:
Write or draw examples of recent events in your life that you believe to be “setbacks”
in your relationship with God. Take these to God in prayer. Ask Him to give you
courage to move beyond these events and ask Him if there is any truth or discernment
you need to hear from Him today.
D AY 1 6
OVERCOMING
WORRY
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand,
that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on
him because he cares for you.”
1 PETER 5:6-7
What’s holding you back from sharing the words God
speaks to you? Maybe you’re afraid of offending or scaring
the person God told you to talk to. Or perhaps there’s still
a part of you that’s afraid that you’re not actually hearing
God at all. Regardless of what it is, worry can stop us in our
tracks if we don’t learn to overcome it.
It isn’t enough to just decide not to worry we have to
address the root of the issue. Our worries are based on a
lack of trust in God. When we worry, we are trying to take
responsibility out of God’s hands and into our own. It’s
impossible to simultaneously entertain worry and trust God.
The next time you feel anxious about something in your life,
take a moment to ask the Lord are you in control of this?
When you bring your worries straight to the Lord, you open
up space for Him to speak directly into your situation.
APPLICATION:
Write a letter to your fears and address them directly. Tell them what the Lord says
about you and how they will not hold power over you anymore. End the letter with
a prayer to God for the faith to know that He is always in control and the courage to
face your fears from this point forward.
D AY 1 7
OVERCOMING
RICHES
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with
what you have, because God has said,
‘Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.’ ”
HEBREWS 13:5
Having money can, in many ways, be a mixed blessing. On
one hand, It’s always nice to know that our physical needs
will be met. On the other hand, it takes away the blessing of
praying “give us this day our daily bread,” and seeing God
actually provide for us. While there is nothing inherently
wrong with riches, God wants us to fully rely on Him to meet
our needs.
Take time today to ask the Lord if there is anything in your
life stopping you from fully relying on Him to meet your
needs. Is there something in your life that you need to give
up? Having things is nice, but seeing the God as He provides
for us is priceless.
APPLICATION:
Spend time in prayer asking God these questions.
1. Have I made any possessions an idol in my life? What are they?
2. Are you calling me to give anything away in order to better serve and focus on you?
3. How can have the faith today that you will “give us this day our daily bread”?
D AY 1 8
OVERCOMING
PLEASURES
“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give
you the desires of your heart.”
PSALM 37:4
God wants us to enjoy our time on Earth. However, if we are
not careful we can let our interests or hobbies devolve into
idols. When we switch off our minds and allow ourselves to
constantly check our phones, laptops, or TVs, we push God
to the background and make pleasures a priority.
Is there a hobby or interest you’ve given too much space
in your mind? Ask the Lord to help you keep track of your
thoughts today and acknowledge how much time you
spend thinking about certain topics. Remember that there
is nothing wrong with these things by themselves, but
when we give them more space in our lives than God they
can become idols.
APPLICATION:
Spend time in prayer asking God these questions.
1. What hobbies or interests have I made idols in my Life?
2. Where is there space I can create to focus on you more?
3. When have I pushed you to the background in my mind?
D AY 1 9
PERSEVERING
THROUGH PAIN
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are
wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an
eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”
2 CORINTHIANS 4:16-17
God wants more than the daily prayer you’ve made a habit
of making on your way to work. He wants more than a
monologue of your worries and wants. He wants us to listen
to Him and learn who He is. That kind of relationship takes
time and effort. Perseverance is the only way we can hope
to improve the way we hear from God.
No one has all the answers, and there are bound to be
moments when it seems like you’re spinning your wheels.
Remember in these moments that your struggles are
leading you closer to a powerful and loving God who
desires, more than anything, to have a relationship with you.
Take a moment today to breathe and recognize how God
has been moving in your life since starting this devotional.
APPLICATION:
Take a moment to look through your Prayer journal. What prayers did you make in the
beginning that God is answering now? Write a note to yourself reminding you of how
God has moved through this process.
D AY 2 0
HELPING OTHERS
HEAR GOD
“Therefore encourage one another and build each
other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
1 THESSALONIANS 5:11
Too many Christians out there can’t honestly say that they
hear from God. Hopefully, by this point in the devotional,
you’ve come to see the transformative experience hearing
from the Lord can bring. It is our duty as disciples to share
with others our experiences and lead them into a more
authentic relationship with Jesus.
Spend today asking the Lord to show you someone who
you can help foster their relationship with God. How can
you share what you’ve learned about hearing God’s voice?
What lessons have you learned and who needs to hear
them? The greatest gift we can share with others is a deeper
relationship with the Father!
APPLICATION:
Spend time asking the Lord to give you the names of people you can help foster
their relationship with God. Write down their names and pray for the Lord to give you
opportunities to speak with each person on the list.
D AY 2 1
WHAT’S
NEXT?
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in
the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and
teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And
surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
MATTHEW 28:19-20
As we reach the end of this devotional, know this is just the
beginning of your journey with Jesus. Continuing to
practice hearing from God will consistently push you into a
deeper intimacy with the Father and strengthen you ability
to create space to hear God’s voice and embolden you to
act out what He says. The Senior Pastor of the Evanston
Vineyard, Steve Nicholson, says this "The heart and soul of
the Christian life is learning to hear the voice of God, and
having the courage to do what He says." This is one of the
most influential practices that you can do in the Christian
faith. So don't let this be the end of this habit.
Remember everything you’ve learned through this
devotional. Keep a prayer journal. Seek out accountability.
Ask God questions and most importantly, create space in
your life to listen for God to answer. God is inviting us into a
deeper relationship with Himself. When we accept that
invitation, we begin to live a life of adventure and purpose
beyond what we could imagine.
APPLICATION:
Pray to the Lord. Ask Him to reveal areas in your life where you have grown since
starting this devotional. Ask Him to reveal areas where you still need growth.
BRING OTHERS
ALONG
Take Day 20 and Day 21 seriously. Start to teach those
around you how to hear from the Lord. Discipleship is a
central part of our faith and is commanded by Jesus.
Discipling someone doesn't mean you have all the right
answers, sometimes it can look like bringing friends on the
journey with you. The journey you are on with the Lord is
beautiful one. Hearing His voice changes everything.
As you share with friends what the Lord is speaking, don't
change your language around those that don't believe in
Him.You may think that it's respectful, but if God is truly
speaking we don't need to pretend as if He's not. What a
powerful testimony! That the God of the universe is
speaking to you! Maybe even take some time to hear from
the Lord for that person. You'd be surprised about how
much it will mean and on the impact it can have.
