Smart Dustbin

The document describes a smart dustbin that uses a laser detection system and trash neutralizing system. The laser detection system uses a laser, sensor and buzzer to detect when the bin is full. The trash neutralizing system uses containers with holes to slowly dispense chemicals onto the trash to treat it. The overall goal is to help clean the environment by treating waste before disposal.

Materials required:
Basic Component: bin.
Laser Detection System: Laser, 9V Cell, Buzzer (piezo),
2.2k ohm resistor, BC547 transistor and conducting wires.
Trash Neutralizing System: chemicals to treat waste and
small containers.
Structure:
Laser System for trash level detection: A laser is attached
to the inner-side of the bin with a sensor system at the
opposite side of it in the bin in which it is connected to a
buzzer. The laser system detection circuit works as follows:
the laser beam would continuously hit the sensor and when
the beam is interrupted the buzzer would ring.
Figure 1, Laser Detection System

Trash Neutralizing System: Small containers with small

holes at bottom filled with chemicals are attached to the top
of the bin container, so that small drops of the chemical are
poured on the trash.

Complete System:

Figure 3, Complete Smart Bin System

Functioning:
Laser System: When the dustbin is filled with waste, then
the waste would pile up and leading to the laser light to get
interrupted in the connection. When the laser beam is
interrupted by trash (this means that it is not being able to
project the ray on the sensor) the piezo would buzz
indicating that the trash is needed to be taken out.
Trash Neutralizing System: The holes of the containers
filled with chemicals allow them to seep through them. This
is like the drip and trickle system, in which the box would
drop chemicals automatically through small holes. The
chemicals play their part by treating the waste in such a way
that it becomes harmless and can be dumped or discharged
into water bodies. Another function of the chemicals would
be that it would prevent microorganism from being born in
the trash or any of them to enter the trash. The chemicals
would also prevent insects.
Aim: The overall goal of the project is to cleanse the
environment. As a lot of partially treated waste or not even
treated waste are discharged into the environment leading to
pollution.
The treatment of wastes with certain chemicals will reduce
it’s harmful effect to a great extent. It would also prevent
insects and microorganisms from the trash. Doing this could
prevent the spread of viruses, bacteria, and other harmful
microorganisms. It would also work in helping pest control.
We as humans have polluted the earth and now it is our turn
to clean it. Making this project and adopting this project for
using in the real life would lead to the contribution of
cleansing the environment and ultimately the Earth.
