DEVICORE - QUICK START

This manual gives a short describtion on how to do DeviCore core orientation.


It will guide you through all steps necessary for a successful operation.

For further and more detailed information on the DeviCore, take a look in the
DeviCore user manual.

1) Assemble the wrench and DeviCore, see last page.

2) Connect the USB modem to the instrument through the COM-port.

3) Connect the USB modem to the PDA.


4) Open the DeviSoft.Mobile software on the PDA. You will find it under the Start-meny.

5) Press “Online” on the PDA, and rotate the instrument barrel until the mark points upward.

6) Note the Gravity tool face value. This value will be the reference point for the orientation
of the core. For easy reference, adjust to zero according to the user manual. See also step 17.

7) Start the instrument.

Keyboard
Enter the “Project”-menu. Enter the “Hole”-menu.
1 Tap “New” and insert Id and name. 2 Tap “New” and write name.

Enter the “Survey”-menu. Insert time The instrument is now ready to be

Tap Start and follow the instructions The “Mark” button creates a survey
on the screen. station, while “End” ends the survey.

8) Place the instrument barrel inside the back end of the inner tube, rubber wings goes in first.

9) Fasten the instrument barrel 5 to 10 cm inside the inner tube by the use of the included
wrench. Align the mark on the instrument barrel with the master scratcher, if available.
10) Mark on the outside of the inner tube, with a permanent marker or file, the position of the
mark on the instrument barrel. Create the mark both in the front and in the back of the inner tube.
NOTE: If the marks are previously created, align the DeviCore according to these.

11) Attach pumping unit and prepare for drilling.

12) Do a measurement when the inner tube is full. Remember that the DeviCore reduces the
inner tube length with 1 meter!

13) Mark the core in the core lifter case, with a permanent marker or file, on a line with the marks
created in step 10.

14) Dump the core and assemble it back to the original state. Extend the mark from step 14
over the full core length.

15) Prepare for new run. If survey was ended after previous run, the instrument barrel must be
removed from the inner tube and data downloaded before orientation can continue.
16) Download data when core orientation is completed.

Answer the question on the screen, then tap


“Results”. Note the gravity tool face (G.Tf ) and

tap the “Load”-button.

17) Write the gravity tool face and inclination on the core box at the respective depths.
Remember to substract the start tool face from the recorded tool face., unless the start tool face
was adjusted to zero in step 6.

18) The permanent mark created corresponds with the gravity tool face measured at the
same depth, i.e. the original core orientation can be recreated.
