EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The site was developed in NIPANI. The internship spanned period 9 JAN 2024 to 24
APRIL 2024 and was carried out at by NATH construction . The total length of road is 1200
meter. The width of road is 7 meter.
As a intern I gained practical experience in site preparation activities, such as surveying, site
clearing, excavation, and soil testing.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked on these projects, and the knowledge and
experience gained will undoubtedly be valuable as I continue my carrier in construction field.

Gain Practical Experience - Interns aim to gain hands-on experience in their field of study or
interest, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world situations. To apply the engineering
knowledge taught in the lecture rooms in real industrial situations
Develop Professional Skills - Internships provide opportunities to develop and enhance skills such
as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, and adaptability. To expose
students to responsibilities and ethics of engineers.

Pavement Designing : I was involved in road construction thus I had to be known with
the pavement design, like analyze the traffic load, pavement thickness
requirement and many more
Construction Management : As a supervisor I had lot of responsibilities on me for that
I had use construction management to do the all work in perfect manner
Quality control and Testing : Most important part of any construction is quality, for do
the quality work I did the laboratory tests of materials and monitor construction activities

DESIGN METHOD
Empirical design
Some of them are either based on physical properties or strength parameters of soil
subgrade. An empirical approach is one which is based on the results of experimentation or
experience. An empirical analysis of flexible pavement design can be done with or with out
a soil strength test. An example of design without soil strength test is by using HRB soil
classification system, in which soils are grouped from A-1 to A-7 and a group index is
added to differentiate soils within each group. Example with soil strength test uses McLeod,
Stabilimeter, California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test. CBR test is widely known and will be
discussed.

2. DRAINAGE CONSTRUCTION
Compaction
The formation bed of the drainage structure needs to be leveled and compacted properly
to the required relative degree of compaction. This can be to 90 -95% Maximum Dry
Density as per AASHTO or the selected specification standard in
use. Common equipment like jumper compactor and hand rollers can be used in areas
with little working space. For heavy work with enough working space, a vibrating roller
and water bowser can be deployed too.
Pouring PCC
Upon bed levelling and compaction, PCC is done to remove irregularities and offer a
good bed for the placement of concrete while minimizing differential settlement. The
PCC 100mm thickness of M15 grade concrete was laid
31| P a g e
INTERNSHIP 2023
Reinforcement must be fixed in the correct position and care must be taken to keep it in
the correct position while concrete is being placed and compacted. A U- shaped main
bars of 10mm at 250mm c/c & 8mm dia distribution bar @ 300mm c/c was laid.
Form work
Formwork retains concrete until it has set and produces the desired shapes and
sometimes, desired surface finishes. Formwork must be supported on false work
of adequate strength and sufficient rigidity to keep deflections within acceptable
limits. The forms too must be strong and rigid to meet dimensional tolerances.
Concreting
After completing the form work, the next activity will be the casting. M20
grade concrete was used for raft and wall structure. The concrete should have
good workability so that it is easy to place and compact with the available
equipment. It should also fulfil the requirements for strength and durability. The
weep holes are provided on the wall for the drainage purpose.
After concreting, leave the drain for one day to set then remove the shuttering.
The drain was cured to achieve the full strength.
32| P a g e
INTERNSHIP 2023
3. SUBGRADE
Subgrade is the bottom most layer which is nothing but natural soil layer compacted
up to required depth generally about 150 to 300 mm to receive the loads coming from
top layers. This layer is termed as foundation for the pavement system
In our site as per the IS standard we have divided into 3 layers. 1 st layer of 200mm ,
2nd layer of 150mm and 3rd layer of 150mm
All the layers are compacted by road roller and spreeding the water..
Wet Mix Macadam(WMM) work includes laying and compacting clean, crushed,
graded aggregate and granular material premixed with water to a dense mass on a
prepared GSB layer or existing pavement as per the requirement of the project
WMM can be laid in one or more layers, but the thickness of the single compacted
layer is not less than 75mm, and the maximum of 200mm when vibrating or other
approved types of compacting equipment are used
work includes laying and compacting clean, crushed, graded aggregate and granular

a mixture of aggregates (such as crushed stone or gravel) bound together with bitumen as
a binder.
Bitumen content: The bitumen binder content in DBM is sufficient to ensure adequate
adhesion and cohesion between the aggregate particles, enhancing the stability and
waterproofing of the road surface.
Surface texture: Dense Bitumen Macadam typically provides a smooth and durable
surface suitable for high-traffic roads, offering good skid resistance and water drainage
properties.
6.SIL COAT
Material: Sil Coat is typically made from a blend of silicate-based compounds, acrylic
resins, and other additives.
Properties: Sil Coat offers excellent weather resistance, UV protection, and durability,
helping to prolong the life of the underlying substrate.
Finish options: It is available in various finishes, including smooth, textured, and
decorative options, allowing for customization based on aesthetic preferences.
Application: Sil Coat is typically applied using brushes, rollers, or sprayers, and it can be
used on both.

SPECIFIC OUTCOMES FROM INTERSHIP
Internship is a bridge between the theoretical knowledge and the practical or reality
work at the field of construction in the civil engineering work. We all who take the
internship program go to companies that already working either as a consultant or a
contractor. The
responsibilities of hosting company are to teach students and shape them in the four weeks
duration as real site workers.

CHAPTER 9
CONCLUSION
As an undergraduate of the DTE Board, we would like to say that this training program is an
excellent opportunity for us to get to the ground level and experience the things that we
would have never gained through going straight into a job. We are grateful to the DTE
Board, Potential Consulting Services and DM Construction for giving us this wonderful
opportunity.
The main objective of this training is to provide an opportunity to students to identify,
observe and practice how engineering is applicable in the real industry. It is not only
to get experience on technical practices but also to observe management practices and
to interact with on field workers. It is easy to work with sophisticated machines, but
not with people. The only chance that an undergraduate has to have this experience is
the internship training period. We feel we got the maximum out of that experience.
Also, we learnt way of work in an organization. The importance of being punctual,
the importance of maximum commitment and the importance of team spirit. The
training program having these destinations was more useful than staying one place
throughout the month. In our opinion, we have gained lot of knowledge and
experience needed to be successful in a great engineering challenge, as in my opinion,
engineering is after all a challenge and not a job.
