SOLACE
A SCREENPLAY WRITTEN BY FELIX MANLEY
MAY 26TH, 2032: LEONS HOUSE, FAR SOUTHSIDE OF London
1 INT. LEONS HOUSE – DUSK
A small, well lit living room. We see, Leon,
relaxing on the sofa winding down, the night,
is beginning to fall, the room is clean and
well put together. Leon puts on the television
and watches the news
REPORTER
We begin with the continuous conflict
Taking place,
It has now been a Month after
Baron Wellick’s disappearance,
Still no reports on his location,
Yet. The government are still on
The search for a new head of
Country, but no one has fit their
Regime as of yet.
Camera pulls towards Leon, and FREEZE on his
face.
LEON (V.O)
I remember waking up and seeing the house
ahead of mine, directly where the sun
would set, destroyed.
TITLE ACT I – GRIEF
That day I realised
there wasn’t any coming back from this. The
country was already falling to pieces, and
after Head of country Christoph Wellick’s
assassination, the country was left with
17-year-old Baron Wellick, and all he did was
rub salt into the wounds of our country.
He knew this and his massive ego couldn’t
handle it, so he just tried to run from his
problems. From there, the country decayed
2 EXT. LEONS HOUSE - DUSK
We see two masked men, with Molotov by their
side, sneakily approaching Leons house
UNFREEZE
The bottles smash, and a fire begins to light
outside Leons house, Leon runs upstairs,
quickly grabs a bag and sprints away.
3 EXT. FOREST - DAY
LEON (V.O)
You would think watching your childhood home
Burn in front of you would truly kill you
As a person. But I felt already defeated.
I’m one of the few still alive, I’ve had to
Witness everyone around me die. When
People I love die, I grieve more then
anyone, because If you don’t grieve it, it
was never truly alive, it didn’t live,
it’s dead but after losing so many people,
I don’t Grieve what I loved and what left,
and that terrifies the life out of me,
because where does that grief go?
MAIN TITLE – SOLACE
TITLE - ACT II – HEDONISM
We see Leons day to day activities in the
forest, how he gets by.
Leon (V.O)
To keep sane I try to keep myself occupied
But I just do the same things, day after
Day after day.
Wake up, check up on my fruit patch, get
Resources for rainfall, meditate, and
Sit with myself. I never truly know
What to do, as I all have is me. And I
Only agree with me, but today I decided
To change my schedule. I need to explore,
I've been hiding too long.
4 EXT. ABANDONED BULIDNG – DUSK
We see a vandalised, destroyed gritty house,
with overgrown plants. As Leon begins to
sceptically approach it
LEON (V.O)
I don’t know when rainfall is going
To come, but I know it will, and I
Need way more resources if I want to
Survive, I always had an intuition that
The country was still populated.
But I feel as if I'm the last man on earth.
Leon continues to search the building, trying
to find whatever resources possible, but it is
as if he is on a wild goose chase. Until, we
hear something drop. Leons eyes widen as we can
tell his heart drops. He hasn’t seen anyone for
months, and really wasn’t planning too
LEON
(clearly distressed)
(goes to speak but says nothing)
Leon goes to exit the building, until he hears
a gunshot, where he begins to run.
LEON (V.O)
What crazy bastard have I ran into?
BARON WELLICK walks in the room, with a gun in
hand,
He is clearly looking for blood.
5 EXT. FOREST BY ABANDONED BUILDING - DUSK
Leon continues to sprint away, through a
massive forest, until he is met with more
abandoned buildings. This gives him a sense of
hope, as he has somewhere to hide now.
Baron continues to slowly follow behind, with a
sinister look to his face.
Leon instantly runs into the largest building,
where he chooses to hide.
He is shortly followed by Baron
6 INT. ABANDONED BUILDING - DUSK
Baron
I heard bricks crumble, I know you're
Here. It's clear you're not trying to
Kill me, so sit down and listen to me.
You don’t have to speak.
You must listen.
It wasn’t my fault.
I didn’t run.
I had a legacy to follow, why would
I?
I was set up.
7 EXT. BARONS FOURTH HOME - NIGHT
We see baron outside on the balcony. enjoying a
Cigar to end his evening.
BARON (V.O)
There I was, in one of my hidden homes, that no
one
Knew about, winding down trying to figure out
what I'm supposed to do with my country. Until
I get that call
Instantly his face seems to drop, as if nerves
Have just hit him
BARON (V.O)
They knew where I was. There where people out
for me all the time, and one of the few places
I thought was safe wasn’t.
From that day forth, I've been on the run, with
nowhere to go. And I haven’t felt alone for a
second.
LEON (V.O)
If there’s one chance where he loses focus,
it's
When he’s speaking about himself.
Leon throws a bit of a brick in a room, as if
it's to catch out Baron, which he ends up
following.
Baron (V.O)
And there hasn’t been a second. Where I felt
Like there hasn’t been someone after me.
Leon slits Barons throat, it becomes a
bloodbath as we see his hand and his knife
covered in blood.
LEON (V.O)
I've won.
ACT III- SOLACE
1,233 days.
1,233 days since it all began.
845 days since I watched the first person.
Close to me die.
240 days, I've been alone.
But after one thousand two hundred and
Thirty-three days. It's finally
Finished, completely. Over, peace.
Ceasefire.
What truly is there to stress about now?
8 EXT- LEONS CAMP
Leon returns to his camp, dropping the bag off
with all of Barons items.
LEON (V.O)
After thousands of days, I've got what I was
hunting for. Clarity.
