What is the difference between University and College in Canada?
➢ In Canada the most important difference between a college and university
education are the qualification you will hold after graduating and the types of jobs
for which you will qualify. Positions offered by the government and large private
companies such as for research will often require a university degree.
➢ College Diplomas and Post Graduate Certifications can place you in a position to
compete for very good jobs in specialized fields. College graduates often have the
upper hand over university graduates when applying to positions that require
applied training.
What is the eligibility criteria for Canada?
UG Programs
➢ Minimum Grade 12 with 55-60% for Diplomas and 65-70 % for Bachelors Degree.
➢ IELTS Score of minimum 6.0 with no band less than 6.0 bands for SDS and 6.0
with no band less than 5.5 for non SDS institutions.
➢ Education gap should not exceed 2-3 years.
PG Programs
➢ Bachelors Degree with 50-55%.
➢ IELTS Score of minimum 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 bands.
➢ Education gap should not exceed 5 years for Colleges.
➢ Backlogs should not exceed 6 - 8 for most of the colleges.
Masters
➢ Bachelors Degree with 65-70%.
➢ IELTS Score of minimum 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 bands.
➢ Education gap should not exceed 8-10 years (for MBA).
➢ Backlogs should not exceed 3-4 for Universities.
Question
➢ If a student has completed graduation and scored IELTS of 6 bands overall and
wishes to continue education in the same field but does not want to retake
IELTS then what options can we suggest?
➢ In such cases the students can go for UG diplomas of 2 years in specialized
fields
➢ For E.g. A student having completed Bachelors in Computer Science can go for
Diploma in Networking/Diploma in Programming etc.
What are the maximum number of backlogs
accepted by Canadian institutions?
➢ Maximum number of backlogs accepted
varies depending on the individual
criterion of Canadian institutions.
➢ Generally, colleges accept backlogs
ranging from 6-8.
➢ Some institutions like Conestoga College,
Fairleigh Dickinson University, Vancouver
Island University, Durham College,
Saskatchewan Polytechnic can accept
profiles with up to 10 backlogs.

Is 15 years Education acceptable for Masters?
➢ All the Technical Master’s programs require 16 years of Education.
➢ There are few institutions accepting 15 years of education for MBA programs.
➢ 15 years of education is generally acceptable for all PG Diplomas except for
few technical courses requiring an engineering degree.
What are the Scholarship Opportunities in Canada?
➢ As the Tuition fees are quite low, scholarship opportunities are limited in
Canada.
➢ Students having an academic percentage of 75% and above may be awarded
scholarships by the institution.

GRE/SAT/ACT requirement
GRE/SAT/ACT is not a mandatory requirement for programs in Canada.
However GRE may be required by some high ranked universities for Masters.

What is Custodianship?
➢ The age of majority is different in each province and territory in Canada,
although it is usually 18 or 19 years of age. Anyone under the age of majority is
considered to be a minor.
➢ Unaccompanied minors wishing to obtain a study permit must appoint a
custodian who will care for and support them while in Canada. Immigration,
Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) requires a notarized declaration, which
has been signed by the minor’s parents in the country of origin and the
custodian in Canada.
➢ A custodian can be a family member, trusted friend or member of the
institution which the minor is attending. For more information about finding a
custodian, we can contact the international student office of the
institution where the minor child plans to study.
Notarized Documents for Application Process / Visa
➢ Notarized documents are not compulsory and are required by some of the
Canadian colleges only.
➢ Before accepting any documents from the student one should always check
the originals to avoid any chances of fake documents.
What is the difference between Co-op and Internship?
Co-operative education programs, commonly referred to as co-ops and
internships both provide students with the opportunity to gain work experience
in their career fields.
➢ Co-ops provide students with a more in-depth and extensive work experience
which can give students an edge over their peers.
➢ Students who participate in co-ops stop taking classes to work full time. Co-ops
are typically paid and last anywhere from three to 12 months.
➢ Internships can be paid or unpaid, shorter in duration and are mostly done in
the summer when students are out of school.
What is the difference between S1 and SW visa?
➢ S1 is study only Visa.
➢ SW1 is study and work visa.
(Usually given to those students who are going for a Co-op program).
Who all can sponsor a student for Canada visa?
➢ Student’s parents should ideally sponsor them for Visa.
➢ The sponsor can also be the students themselves, spouse, siblings, paternal
and maternal grandparents.
➢ Third party sponsorship should not be more than 30% of the entire expense.
What is CAQ?
➢ Québec Certificate of Acceptance (CAQ) - International students whose
program in Québec lasts more than six months should be authorized to study
by the ministère de l'Immigration, de la Diversité et de l'Inclusion (MIDI).
➢ If any student is applying for any colleges in Quebec, it is necessary that they
first apply for a CAQ and then for Visa.
➢ There is an online application process for CAQ and the turn around time to
receive the same is 5 -7 weeks.
