Synthesis Paper
Mental health is very important at every stage of our life, from childhood and
adolescence through adulthood and even until we get old. It affects how we think, act
and feel. Also, it helps to determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make
choices. Over the course of your life, if you are experiencing mental health problems,
thinking, mood, and behavior could be affected in many significant ways. As I listened
to the resource speaker, Mr. Daruis E. Montaño I have learned a lot from him about the
topic, mental health and well-being. He is one of my mentor in Union National High
School since I was Grade 7 and one of the greatest asset of my Alma matter.
When it comes to our mental health, our emotional well-being plays a big part.
The resource speaker first opened a questioned the mood of the students before
entering the seminar. Also, he explained the two terminologies the normal mental
health and the mental disorders. I was hooked by the advice of Mr. Montaño that do not
self-medicate, do not self-diagnose. This advice tells us that we should not stuck in our
problems and we should consult it to the trusted mental health specialist. This is the
main problem for many college students today. It's mainly affecting "Generation Z," or
the current majority of students in college. I've researched several articles pertaining to
suicidal college students or students with anxiety and depression. He discussed the 4 Ds
of abnormal behavior and these are the dysfunction, distress, deviance and dangerous.
Additionally, he mentioned the common mental health issues, the stress, anxiety and
depression. Sadness and anxiety are normal emotions that help alert us to, protect us
from, and cause us to react, which is in fact absolutely healthy but What is not healthy
is when these feelings become excessive, ongoing, irrational, distressing, and interfere
with our daily life.
I would agree that mental health has become today's struggle that many try to
fix, and I believe a person's mind and emotional well-being are important to take care
of. In the efforts of many medical professionals trying to help people with their mental
health, the issue has a long way to be resolved and not the right amount of sessions
can truly help a person recover from mental health. With the resources that are offered,
this is an effort to help a person heal from mental health.
In summary, mental health is a vital aspect of overall well-being that requires a
comprehensive and compassionate approach. Efforts to reduce stigma, improve access
to care, and promote mental wellness are essential for individuals, communities, and
societies to thrive. Recognizing the interconnectedness of mental and physical health is
a crucial step toward a healthier and more inclusive future for all.
Reflection
We should give our mental health and well-being great thought and reflection
because they are important components of our existence. Growing awareness and
understanding of the significance of mental health in recent years have sparked
significant discussions and activities aimed at fostering wellbeing.
Building strong social connections and support networks is vital for mental
health. Therapists, counselors, and psychiatrists play crucial roles in providing support
and treatment for various mental health issues. It’s important to recognize that mental
health experiences and well-being can vary greatly from person to person and across
different cultures. What works for one individual may not work for another, and cultural
factors can influence how mental health is perceived and managed. Striking aLearning
to manage stress, adapt to change, and bounce back from setbacks are skills that can
improve mental well-being.
In conclusion, our total quality of life and mental health and wellbeing are
intricately linked. Thinking about these things might help us realize how important it is
to look after our mental health, get help when we need it, and participate in a culture
that values and promotes the wellbeing of all its citizens. It’s a continuous journey that
calls for awareness, consideration, and group effort.
