Welcome To My Capstone

Rafaela Castro
About me!
About Me continued!
A bit more....!
Area of focus & Inquiry question:
My area of focus is cooking, and my inquiry
question is how does the presentation style of
cooking tutorials on TikTok influence viewer
engagement?
What my capstone is about ;)
• I made a TikTok account that I called rafs.kitcchen to create and post video tutorials on how to make different kinds of recipes,
(Patecones, Alfredo Shrimp Pasta, Quiona Salad, Tacos, Roasted Cherry Tomato Bruschetta, Ecuadorean Fish Civiche, and Garlic Knots).
• For the viewers to follow along I added the ingredients/measurements and the steps in the captions of my videos, since my videos
only had titles, music, some text in between
• I got the recipes from Instagram, from my dad, and mainly Google which were very helpful
• I promoted my account by posting on my Instagram account story for people to follow/sent the videos to friends for them to like!
• All the recipes I cooked for me, and my family have luckily turned out great!
Why a cooking tiktok/Tutorial
Show? What does it mean to me?
• Why:
• Those kinds of videos have always been enjoyable for me to
watch when I see them pop up
• This project felt like a good oppoortunity to try it out!
• What it means to me:
• I wanted to encourage others to have cooking as an important
life skill
• This process will also be beneficial to me as I get more
independent (cook my own meals)
Challenges
• I'm not a professional at cooking (took zoom cooking classes during the
pandemic)
• I had to learn how to cook these recipes on my own while filming at the
same time (my phone attached to my tripod)
• Filming took up a lot of time from cooking
• Helped with multi-tasking skills (helpful/useful for future career if I want
to be a kindergarten teacher)
• Overcame this challenge by not stressing, taking my time, not rushing.
Promoting(challenge)
If I could change
something, Do a better
job at promoting
evidence

More evidence
• For communication I used it by promoting my account on my Instagram story and asking my friends to follow and like my videos that I posted
• As I also mentioned I asked my dad to send me a text message of the recipe and steps of how to make the tacos and civiche the way he makes it.

Core competencies
• For creative thinking I needed to test and figure out on my camera settings of how to have better camera quality as that is important while filming cooking tutorials
• For critical thinking I had to make sure to put the ingredients and steps correctly and think about how to shoot the videos to make it look good with good lighting and
good shots
• For positive personal and cultural identity, I chose recipes from my Ecuadorian culture as well from other cultures like Italian which would've been the Alfredo Shrimp
Pasta.
• What I learned about myself throughout this project is that for me to not give up even if the situation isn't simple

Conclusion • Advice I would give to another student for this project (Career Choice or Something New!)
• My favorite recipe I made is the Alfredo Shrimp Pasta and the Roasted Cherry Tomato Bruschetta!
