Introduce each of the vocabulary words using the


vocabulary routines.
 Build Vocabulary: Words that are important in the reading
passage is highlighted.
 Say and Define: In this section, students focus on the sounds and definitions of the words.
 Read and Relate: Students further explore the definitions and how the words are used in context
within the reading passage.
 Apply Here:
 Students demonstrate their understanding by applying the words in different contexts.
 Then use these specific activities to help children build
 vocabulary in the first paired selections.
 You can also point to a picture, say the word, and then encourage children to tell you how
the picture relates to the word's meaning.
