Build Vocabulary: Words that are important in the reading
passage is highlighted.
Say and Define: In this section, students focus on the sounds and definitions of the words.
Read and Relate: Students further explore the definitions and how the words are used in context
within the reading passage.
Apply Here:
Students demonstrate their understanding by applying the words in different contexts.
Then use these specific activities to help children build
vocabulary in the first paired selections.
You can also point to a picture, say the word, and then encourage children to tell you how
the picture relates to the word's meaning.
