SIGNA CONTOUR 3B

1 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND SERVICE FEATURES

The new Signa Contour features an improved and cost reduced operator console and new V7.42 software.
Integrated Power Supply (IPS) cabinet GPS, Patient Table, SRU and Magnet Enclosure, are same as Contour3.

• IPG2 Introduction
• DASM switch added on FRONT PANEL ASSY for easier software loading.
• Modem @ Install program integrated to Americas systems

1-4 KEY SERVICE DIFFERENCES

• Host computer FRUs changed. The Hard disk drive sized increased to 4GB and moved to the SCSI Bay.
• MedCam Array processor eliminated and Bulk Acquisition Memory (SBAM) added for host reconstruction.
• IPG2 does not have an LED display. A new service cable is added for remote diagnostics via laptop.
• DASM power switch added on new FRONT PANEL ASSY. Relay assembly added for the switch.
• GOP MIP board (image filter hardware) is eliminating for software filter.
• Rear connector board nest labeling improvement.
• V7.4 software provides SPT “Lite” for 1-button push to run SNR checks and automatic recon scale factor
updates to coil config file.

The system software is being shipped separately from the product. The product will not arrive with the most current version of
software loaded. Paper instructions for loading the most current version are being shipped with the system. This is due to an
export issue that is trying to be resolved.

1-5 TECHNICAL OVERVIEW/ SPECIFICATIONS

Operator Console :
Net Weight = 252 kg. Operator console consists of 19 inch high resolution CRT display, mouse, keyboard, ICM-
Lite, host computer, peripherals, DASM and independent physiological waveform color LCD display. Separate
AC junction box provides power connections for Operator console equipment. Breaker box houses console
breakers and fuses for mobile systems.

*Please Note: IPG2 will begin shipping at beginning of Feb ’99. The IPG2 does not have the 7-segment led
display. Other functionality is completely the same. A debug cable has been added to the forward production
system as a standard tool to facilitate connecting a laptop to the IPG, IPG2, Cerd, or TPS CPU. Instructions for
debugging via laptop are on the rev0 and rev15 Service CD-ROM. This cable can be ordered from Service stock
for the installed base systems at Oct ’98 end. Part number for cable is 2223407.

Smart Bulk Acquisition memory (SBAM) :

SBAM board will reside in the ICM-lite chassis as the replacement of MEDCAM. SBAM board stores Bulk
Data but doesn’t have reconstruction function. SBAM also performs the pre-process of Cine and 3D DFT
with an ADSP on it. SBAM will not work in ISE chassis system (Contour/Profile), because Host CPU
(SS20) performance is not enough for host reconstruction. SBAM must use G3 revision of CERD.

Host computer :
SUN Microsystems ULTRA SPARC2. Ultra SPARC Dual CPU processor, 64 bit, 256MB CPU memory
standard expandable to 512MB. Bit3, Aurora quad serial card included on SBUS. SUN Microsystems
genuine power supply included. Solaris 2.51 or later required.

Peripherals :
4G byte HDD, 1.44M byte FDD, 12x speed CD-ROM drive, 5.25” MOD (HITACHI) for DICOM archive, HITACHI
MOD and MAXOPTICS MOD are 100% compatible. PIONEER MOD and HITACHI MOD are NOT compatible.
5.25” MOD(PIONEER) available as a special order item or from existing upgrade. PIONEER MOD will have
Read Only feature when both the Hitachi and PIONEER are installed in the console. 4G byte HDD relocated to
SCSI bay.

DASM :
DASM-VDB (analog laser camera I/F) or DASM-LCAM (digital laser camera I/F) included. DASM is located
within SCSI tray of console. It does NOT have the case with DC power supply and the wiring harness has been
improved. A DASM power switch is added on new FRONT PANEL ASSY. DASM RELAY B’d added for new
switch.

CRT display monitor :

DOTRONIX 19 inch grayscale monitor 1280x1024, 66Hz refresh rate.
BARCO 19 inch color monitor 1280x1024, 76Hz refresh rate.
Color monitor is customer purchased option for fixed sites only.

Mouse :
Logitec PS2 3 button mouse. Same as previous Contour product.

Keyboard :
GEYMS original design keyboard. Keyboard consists of Alpha-numerical 101 key, ten key, scan control key,
intercom and volume controls. Same as previous Contour product.

Integrated Power Supply (IPS) :

IPS consists of the RF power amplifier, and Power distribution unit. Weight = approx.320 kg.(w/SDT), 290
kg.(w/o SDT). Same as previous Contour product.

4 kW output quadrature drive RF power amplifier. Same as previous Contour product.

Gradient Power Supply (GPS) :

Analogic AN8280Y-TK switching GPS Half height cabinet (Same as Contour2). The GPS receives G-DATA and
clock from the TYME2 by optical fiber cables. Same as previous Contour product.

Regulated Step Down Transformer (RSDT) :

RSDT is a mandatory purchased option for Gems-Am sites. M1710CA for 60Hz and M1720DA for 50Hz. System
transformer covers input voltage 380V/415V/480V. Same as previous Contour product.

Un-interruptible Power Supply (UPS) :

UPS backup power source for operator console. System can use Exide UPS only. APC UPS is incompatible,
because power capacity is not enough. Same as previous Contour product.

2 INSTALLATION

2-1 INSTALLATION PROCESS

Installation should be done by properly trained GE Field Service Engineers or approved vendor.
Two service engineers are required to install the magnet, covers, table, cabinets and run the cables.
One service engineer is required to perform the adjustments and tests.
Special Requirements
Special installation requirements for this product are
• The console will require minimum clearance in corridor of 1000mm (39.37 inches) and door
opening of 750mm (29.53 inches).
• The cable lengths from console to IPS have been changed to 20m from the previous 30m.
• System air conditioning requirements for Equipment room are lower than previous
• System air conditioning requirements for Operator room are higher than previous
• Lifting rings have being eliminated from the VMX2 “K4” magnet. Riggers will have to use lifting
straps. Preferred vendor of straps is:

The Contour3B program is providingModem@Install for the Americas region. A modem kit M1000NY will be shipped free of
charge for the customer with the system. If your system was ordered after Aug1st, you will not need to order a modem kit.

Contour implements Proactive Diags to provide dialout capability should the system monitor detect a failure.
The call will be
routed to the closest Online Support Center for evaluation.
Due to the sensitive nature of the cryocooler, a dedicated phone line
for InSite must be provided upon magnet installation.

Early Readiness training not required due to the small differences from previous product release. Advanced
notice of the product release was provided to the ETC+ members in Spring and Fall sessions of ’98. Product

4 MAINTENANCE DELIVERY
This section describes maintenance service (in and out of warranty).

4-1 Planned Maintenance

Planned maintenance (PMs) are proactive service visits intended to reduce the probability of failure during the
year. PMs instructions (procedures and frequencies) are based on engineering recommendations to meet safety,
regulatory, and image quality requirements. For the Contour product, the following PM goals have been set:
• Number of PMs/year/fixed site unit = 3
• Number of PMs/year/mobile unit = 12
• Hours of PM per visit for fixed site unit (without travel allowance) = 8 hours
• Hours of PM per visit for mobile unit (without travel allowance) = 2.5 hours
• Number of people required = 1 person

Planned Maintenance Continued:

• Parts to be changed during PMs:
1. The adsorber in the Sumitomo compressor should be replaced every 20,000 hours. See
wear parts section for details on Leybold and Balzer.
2. The coldhead should be used until failure.
3. The UPS should be replaced every 3 years.
4. Table oring, id connector and cradle tape should be replaced yearly.
5. Head coil orings should be replaced yearly
6. O2 sensor should be replaced every 3 years
7. MRU batteries should be replaced every 3 years

CD-ROM.
