Good Will Hunting - 5 Stars
Have you ever felt like you were holding yourself back from an opportunity? Scared of
the changes it might bring, and that you might fail? Good Will Hunting takes you through the
early adulthood of someone who is constantly struggling with self confidence, and believes he is
rooted in a set destiny. The movie is about a math genius who has chosen to work as a janitor at
MIT. During his time spent in the classrooms after school hours, he is able to solve the problems
posed on the chalkboard effortlessly. These problems are so complex that most of the students
cannot even begin to solve them. His talent is discovered by the math professor at MIT who tries
to help bring him to his full potential.
In my opinion, the actors are what make the movie such a good watch. Matt Damon fit
the role of the main character perfectly. His emotional expression was so encapsulating that it
made me, as a viewer, feel empathy and sadness for him throughout the movie. His acting was so
good in fact, considering this was his very first movie, that he was cast in countless other famous
movies. Some of the most popular include Ford v. Ferrari (2019), Interstellar (2014), Deadpool 2
(2018) among many others. In addition to this fantastic casting, Robin Williams, a highly liked
and respected actor in the movie played a significant role. Robin Williams could be considered a
versatile character, as he has played comedy movies, as well as feel good, drama, and fantasy.
Some of his more well known movies include Aladdin (1992), Insomnia (1993), and one of my
personal favorites, Mrs. Doubtfire (1993). It’s safe to say that Robin Williams did not disappoint

in Good Will Hunting, as his persona conveyed the perfect caring, warm-hearted character he
portrayed in the movie.
The setting of the movie, filmed in Boston and different areas in Canada, made for the
perfect casual setting. It seemed as though any “average” person could have grown up here, as
the streets and diners where the movie was cast feel familiar. The attention to detail of each
location helps make the movie feel real and almost relatable. His house, for example, portrays his
character perfectly as he is made out to be an independent man mentally stuck in the roots of his
family that do not share his talents. After seeing his situation you cannot help but feel bad for the
guy, and hope he succeeds. Additionally, the sound track that was picked was always on point
with the mood of each scene. Some of the songs included in the movie are “Right Down the
Line” by Gerry Rafferty, “Return of the Mack by Mark Morrison,” and “I Saw Her Standing
There” by The Beatles. The choice of popular songs was a nice choice because when they started
playing if you knew them you could sing along! Additionally, the slow, chill vibe of most of the
songs added to the casual feel of the movie.
This film is definitely a worthwhile watch for all types of viewers. It can be an inspiration
piece to young adults, like himself who are struggling to find their purpose. It can be a fun,
heartwarming watch for those who just need something to lift their spirits. It can be a cute movie
to watch as a couple due to the relationship he builds with his girlfriend and the risks he takes for
her. Overall, this is a great watch for anyone and everyone, and helps to lift the spirits and
motivate its viewers. Is Will Hunting going to break out of his shell? Move away from his
hometown? Fall in love? You need to watch the movie to find out.
