Everyday actions to keep water clean

VITAL WATER
WHAT IS THE CURRENT DRINKING WATER SITUATION?
Access to water has become practically impossible. The planet
has 70% water but, according to National Geographic data, only
3.5% is fresh and 0.025% potable. Hence, the unequal distribution
of this resource is of concern to governments around the world.
The figures show that approximately 2 billion people in the
world do not have access to drinking water services; 3.6 billion do
not have safe sanitation services and 2.3 billion do not have the
basics to wash their hands.

Water, as we all know, is a precious resource necessary for life to thrive on
this planet. But what factors affect water quality? The answer is that there
are many, and understanding the factors at play is crucial to our health and
the well-being of our environment. Mother Nature is also involved in this
game. Weather patterns and climate change can affect water quality.
Imagine heavy rains washing pollutants into our rivers or temperature
changes affecting our drinking water.

ACTUALLY FACTS
KEEP THE VITAL
WATER
Regularly inspect pipes and faucets for leaks, and repair any issues
promptly. Use water sparingly by installing low-flow
showerheads and faucets, dual-flush toilets, and efficient
appliances, and turn off the faucet while washing dishes or
brushing teeth. Reuse water by installing a rainwater harvesting
system and using greywater for irrigation or cleaning, and
implement water-saving devices like shower timers and faucet
aerators.
Water is essential not only for hydration but also plays a crucial role in
food production, from vegetables and fruits to meat and eggs. This
connection between water and food production underscores the need
to preserve this resource to ensure food security. The impact of water
conservation on environmental preservation is significant, as water is
vital for the survival of plants, animals, and various species. It also serves as
a habitat for numerous organisms, from bacteria to more complex
species. Therefore, conserving water benefits humans and contributes
to the preservation of biodiversity and ecosystems.

WHAT WE DON'T
KNOW ABOUT WATER
ACTIONS TO CARE FOR THE
VITALITY OF WATER
Reduce Pollution: Ensure that domestic and industrial wastewater is properly treated and opt for non-toxic
and biodegradable products.
Conserve Water: Implement water-efficient practices in the home, agriculture and industry, and promote
the reuse of treated water.
Aquatic Ecosystem Protection: Work to restore wetlands and riverbanks, and protect aquifer recharge
areas.
Education and Awareness: Promote educational programs that teach the importance of water
conservation and encourage community participation in the protection of local water bodies.
