INTRODUCTION

There are a number of people who need help in life for various essential things.
May it be shelter or food? People when come above to donate and help these
people, they help them in a unique way by providing them the most important
thing that is food. Food is an entity that is most important and the most required
element. Without food, a person may starve to death. So, donating food to someone
can help someone’s life.

Hence, very first community activity I selected is food donation to poor and needy
people. My friend and I visited a couple places and donated food to all those who
needed it. Through this, I learned to share, to help, and I also tried to learn–or at
least see–the struggles people face. This helped me understand about the poor and
their conditions. It also made me very happy to help them in any way I could, I was
very happy seeing smiles on their faces after getting food! My friend and I went
once a week for a month and I go with my mom sometimes as well.

I was very eager throughout our visits to donate food. A global issue of
significance that I may have helped (only a little) was poverty and hunger. Many
people cannot afford to eat barely one meal a day and hunger and poverty are
crucial issues that the world faces today. Many people stay unaware or ignorant of
this issue but by donating food and helping a little I feel that I contributed to the
cause. Like already mentioned, it made me very happy and content to be able to
help someone else.

7
Reasons Why You Should Donate Food

1. Enjoy that feeling of being a “good samaritan”

It kindles a different kind of peace and positivity. Involving yourself in any food
donation activity is a great way of giving back to the community and expressing
gratitude. After all, you are providing the service of the greatest kind – healthy
food to the hungry. Spreading goodwill never goes unnoticed because of the social
approval associated with helping others.

2. Become Socially Responsible

Hosting a giving tree or organizing a fundraiser to donate food is a great way of
bringing together families, friends, associates, employees, and even customers as a
social initiative. You can become socially responsible by helping in various ways –
eliminating nutrition-deficiency diseases, developing a community-oriented
mindset, and teaching the next generation the importance of giving and
appreciation. Apart from helping families in crisis, an online donation can improve
agricultural and food production, building resilience in communities.

3. Feed people to feed the economy

As Virginia Woolf said, “one cannot think well, love well, or sleep well if one has
not dined well”. Food is the foundation of every human capability. Hunger and
malnutrition have a ripple effect that slows the productivity of children in schools
and adults in jobs. As a result, food donation ensures that a lack of reliable meals is
never a barrier to education, health, and economic status. Donating food not only
fuels economic progress at the macro level, but it also helps you save disposal
costs and entitles tax deductions with proper receipts.

4. Reduce your environmental impact

Food wastage is a major source of environmental contamination, be it air, water, or
soil. Donation of surplus food can eliminate the methane emissions produced by
rotting food. The reduced volume of food in landfills also helps combat climate
change by reducing the greenhouse emissions associated with food waste. At the
least, your vicinity is cleared off from possible infestations and pest nuisance.

8
Conclusion
Donating to the needy is a great way to improve the conditions in your
neighborhood or community. Donating food to the worthy people or
organizations helps counter poverty, hunger and at the same time, it can improve
harmony, friendliness, and trust among residents. Contribution of every individual
can bring the change. As evidence, we took several pictures of us handing out food
to the people. While we couldn’t exactly ask for permission, I wish to at least keep
their faces anonymous because everyone is entitled to privacy, in my opinion.

INTRODUCTION
Planting trees is the ideal approach to support nature. It additionally helps other
living species, including people, in many ways. Trees give us oxygen, food,
shelter, and many more. They are natural air filters and noise safeguards. Trees are
the earth’s life supportive network. They support and are essential for life on earth.
Aside from giving oxygen, trees additionally work as common safeguards of noise
pollution.

The forests do develop naturally. Be that as it may, today, forests are chopped
down at a rate more noteworthy than they could develop. This causes a sort of
irregularity, wherein relatively few trees are left to meet our oxygen supply and
different requirements.

Trees are a source of shelter and nourishment for many species, reptiles, and birds.
Any place a tree is planted it gives another lease of life to these species. Trees
additionally cause rain and prevent floods. Hence, I have selected second
community work activity as Tree Plantation, to inspire children to plant more and
more saplings so that they can easily make.

Trees planted in the parks add to the scenic beauty of the spot. A tree will be there
for ages profiting everyone in its specific manner. If you plant a tree today, at that
point, your coming ages will be profited by it—one of the best future investment to
make for your youngsters. Plantations of trees are important as they improve the
life and fulfill essential needs of mankind. During photosynthesis, the trees
breakdown food materials and consume carbon dioxide. Resultantly with the help

11
of sunlight, the trees produce carbohydrates. Tree plantation is one of the most
important and ecofriendly activities all over the world which is taking place.

Benefits of Tree plantation

1. Serving Oxygen Needs and combating climate change: Human Beings breathe in
oxygen to live. Trees undergo the process of photosynthesis for their food during
which they utilize carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere and release back
oxygen which is used by living creatures for respiration. Trees also help combat
climate change by removing and storing excess CO2 from the air which is a
greenhouse gas and contributes to global warming.

2. Trees produce a cooling effect and help conserve energy: Trees provide cool
shade by absorbing excess heat and releasing water vapors through transpiration.
This helps cutting summer air conditioner needs and thereby promotes energy
conservation.

3. Preventing soil erosion: The roots of the trees hold onto the soil and prevent soil
erosion

4. Providing food and medicines: Trees provide food in the form of fruits and
vegetables for Humans, Birds and Animals alike. In fact, many trees and plants
behold medicinal values and help cure severe diseases. Example: The bark of the
cinchona tree helps cure malaria while Tulsi and Ashwagandha is beneficial in
cold and cough.

5. Shelter for Birds and Animals: Trees also serve as shelter for a large variety of
birds and animals and help conserve biodiversity in nature by providing a proper
habitat for their survival.

6. Fulfilling commercial aspirations: A number of commercial goods can be

derived from trees that can help in economic growth. Example: Timber, firewood,
pulpwood, fruits, medicines, minerals, rubber, gum, fibers, fodder, oils, bamboo
canes, and many more commercial items.

12
7. Regulation of Water Cycles: Trees absorb rainfall, slow down runoff and release
water for recharge of springs. The water they transpire helps in the formation of
clouds that bring down rainfall and maintain the hydrological balance.

8. Moderate pollution: With the advent of the industrial era, cities have become the
hub of industries that release toxic gases and pollutants in the atmosphere. Trees
play a crucial role in pollution moderators as they absorb toxic gases and help to
keep the air pure. They even absorb noise and prevent noise pollution.

CONCLUSION:
Therefore, I conclude that trees should be regularly planted to save the mankind
and the animal world. Tree plantation and its after-care is a pleasing work too. We
can get much pleasure in planting trees and in taking care of them. The central
conclusion from the analysis is that role of plantation forests, in meeting future
wood and fibre demands, will increase during the next 30 years, irrespective of
future rates of plantation establishment.

INTRODUCTION
Cleaning the environment is the key to the existence and survival of life on planet
earth. Maintaining a clean environment reduces pollution, preserves our biosphere,
protects endangered species, and helps preserve the earth's natural resources. Clean
air and water, sanitation and green spaces, safe workplaces can enhance people's
quality of life: reduced mortality and morbidity, healthier lifestyles, improved
productivity of workers and their families, improve lives of women, children and
elderly and are crucial to mental health.

A neighborhood cleanup is just what it sounds like: residents band together to

clean up all or part of their neighborhood. The effort may be led by the community,
by an organized neighborhood association or council, by a grass roots
neighborhood group, or by one or more concerned individuals. There are actually
three kinds of neighborhood cleanups, any or all of which can be included in a
single event: Public space cleanup, Household cleanup, Community-assisted
cleanup.

16
Importance of Community cleanup
Cleanups demonstrate the concern users have for an area’s aesthetics. When a site
is tidy, well-lit, and often used by inhabitants and their friends, crime is less likely
to happen. You may make an area less appealing to criminals and more appealing
to the community by recovering an abandoned park or playground, clearing tall
weeds and trash from an empty lot, or beautifying walkways and public areas
beside the roadway. This makes the neighborhood safer.

The health of the community will be enhanced via a neighborhood cleanup

initiative. Large volumes of trash and rubbish abandoned homes and vehicles, and
other toxic debris can serve as rat and bug roosts, generate pollution, and result in
unhygienic circumstances that promote the growth of illnesses and health issues
(Williams & Hoffman, 2020). Additionally, it is difficult for kids to find a secure
space to play in such a setting, which raises stress levels for everyone who resides
there. Cleaning it up might encourage neighborhood people to consider the
prospect of local wellness while also offering them tangible and immediate health
advantages. Additionally, it will support the neighborhood’s “greening.” In
addition to reducing pollution, a cleaning program may educate locals about
recycling and other practices that will lessen the neighborhood’s carbon footprint
by sorting local waste and recycling as feasible.

CONCUSION
A neighborhood cleanup can improve the look of your neighborhood, but can do
much more as well. Successful cleanup can be the beginning of neighborhood
regeneration. Establishing a neighborhood cleanup program can be a boon for any
neighborhood, increasing connections among neighbors and creating community.
In order to bring about long-term social change, you have to build a structure that
will survive the departure of the builders, and benefit the neighborhood
indefinitely.

This activity had given me an opportunity to become a more productive individual,

concerning on how to care and how to be responsible in our community and
environment. Presenting and engaging such activities is indeed of great help to our
community if we only know how important every action we do.

INTRODUCTION
We all have heard about Self-defense since we were children, and living in this
brutal world of the 21st century where no one is completely safe, it comes as a
responsibility that it is only us who can protect us. If we see the basic definition, it
is protecting oneself from any external harm by defending the opponent.

Self – defense use is under legal jurisdictions called as the “right to self – defense”.
In today’s world, it is very important to know to protect yourself.

Statistics show that one in three women will be the victim of some type of violent
attack in her lifetime. In the training, it is taught to block an attack, but if one can
avoid it, it is a much better case. Hence, the training should also include preventing
an attack in the first place. Knowing something as strong as Karate gives you
confidence and strength that you’re not weak and has the potential to do what they
dream of.

TYPES OF SELF-DEFENSE

 Jujutsu
 Taekwondo
 Krav Maga
 Aikido
 Wing Chun
 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
 Muay Thai

20
WHY LEARN SELF-DEFENSE?

Keeping in view, the rising number of crimes against girls in the country, it is
important to provide self-defence training to them in the early age to ensure their
safety and security. Self-defense training is a life skill that helps girls to be more
aware of their surroundings and be prepared for the unexpected at any time.
Through the self defense training, the girls are taught to become psychologically,
intellectually and physically strong enough to protect themselves in times of
distress. Self defense training techniques instills self confidence amongst girls and
helps to promote girls education particularly their transition to secondary and
higher secondary level and to reduce the dropout rate in schools.

BASIC SELF-DEFENSE MOVES

The best thing you can do in a dangerous situation is avoid a potential attack. Always
be aware of your surroundings and who is nearby. Stay off your phone so you can
pay attention to what other people around you are doing. Walk with confidence and
make eye contact with people you see.

Attackers often seek out people they perceive as weak or timid. By making eye
contact, you show a would-be attacker that you’ve seen their face and could identify
them in the future. Other tips for maintaining your safety in everyday situations
include:

 Not walking alone at night

 Avoiding dark parking lots and isolated places
 Having your keys and phone in your hand, ready for when you need them
 Locking your car immediately after getting in
 Staying away from people that make you uncomfortable

Heel-palm strike. When you hit an attacker with the heel of your palm, you reduce
the risk of damaging your wrist or arm. Using an open hand is also an easier
transition if you’re not expecting an attack.

21
If you do anticipate an attack, keeping your hands open gives you the element of
surprise. Open hands are not a defensive position. An attacker may perceive you as
being unprepared for an attack and be caught off guard by your self-defense strategy.

Eye strike. This move is important because it doesn’t require a lot of force. You can
use this self-defense move no matter what position you’re in. Use your fingers to
drive pressure into an attacker's eyes. This often forces them to back up and loosen
their grip on you, giving you the chance to use a more forceful move or escape.

Knee strike. You can use this move from a standing position. A knee strike is
often more powerful than a kick because your power is more centralized. Kneeing
an attacker in the groin can render them unable to move so you can get away. They
will not be able to pursue you if you use enough force.

Elbow straight punch. With this self-defense technique, you use your elbow to
deliver a blow similar to a punch. You use your elbow to drive a forward force in the
same motion as your fist would. A regular punch is a great move if you have room to
build momentum, but your elbow offers more force when you are in close proximity
to an attacker.

Side elbow. If an attacker comes at you from the side, use your elbow to hit them
sideways. You drive your elbow horizontally, similar to a straight punch. This move
gives you the chance to protect your face by keeping your hands close to your body.

Low elbow. When someone attacks you from behind, you don’t have much room to
fight back. Keep your elbow low and deliver a blow straight back into their abdomen,
ribs, or groin. The idea is to get your attacker to loosen their grip so you can continue
to fight back with a better advantage or get away.

Bear hug escape. If your attacker grabs you from behind and you can’t use an elbow
to deliver a blow, you need to find another solution. When you shift your weight
toward the front, you make it harder for the attacker to lift or move you. It may also
cause the attacker to loosen their grip.

This can give you room to use a low elbow strike or pull away. If you can turn
around and face your attacker, use a heel-pal strike or knee strike to gain an
additional advantage. Once you have the chance, get away as quickly as you can.

23
CONCLUSION
Ethics and Elements of Self-Defense is essentially the practice of protecting
oneself from potentially dangerous powers. In most situations, these negative
powers are directed at human assailants. The most important aspect of self-defense
for girls is the ability to defend oneself from something that is socially
inappropriate. This is much more motivating than possessing the ability to assess
a potential risky situation. It encourages women to cope with difficult and
challenging circumstances on their own, empowering them to live a safe and
rewarding life.

INTRODUCTION
Meditation is the delicate art of doing nothing and letting go of all efforts to relax
in your true nature, which is love, joy, and peace. The practice of meditation gives
you deep rest. It is essential to reduce stress levels and maintain mental hygiene.
The benefits of meditation are manifold - a calm mind, focused attention, good
concentration power, clarity of thoughts and feelings, balanced emotions in
stressful situations, improved communication skills, the birth of new skills and
talents, unshakeable inner strength, healing powers, ability to connect to an inner
source of energy, relaxation, rejuvenation, and even the ability to attract good luck!
These are all the natural effects of regular meditation practice.
Today, meditating daily is not a luxury but a necessity. To be unconditionally
happy and to have peace of mind, we need to tap into the power of meditation. The
purpose of meditation is to make one calm, stress-free, free from pain, healthy and
happy. Meditation helps in maintaining good physical health, mental health &
emotional health.

TYPES OF MEDITATION
Meditation can take on many different forms, but there are two main types:
concentrative meditation and mindfulness meditation:

Concentrative Meditation- Concentrative meditation involves focusing on a

specific thing while tuning out everything else around you. The goal is to
experience whatever you are focusing on, whether it's your breath, a specific word,
or a mantra, to reach a higher state of being.

25
Mindfulness Meditation - Mindfulness meditation includes, among others,
both mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and mindfulness-based cognitive
therapy (MBCT). Mindfulness can target different issues, such as depression,
meaning its focus may differ from practice to practice. Overall, it involves the state
of being aware of and involved in the present moment and making yourself open,
aware, and accepting.

SPECIFIC MEDITATION TYPES

Body-scan meditation: This practice involves scanning the body and noticing
physical sensations.

Breathing meditation: This involves focusing on different breathing techniques.

Loving-kindness meditation: This technique involves focusing your attention on

loved ones, yourself, and others as you think kind and caring thoughts.

Mantra meditation: This practice involves chanting a word or phrase, which can be
done aloud or in your mind.

Movement meditation: This type of meditation involves focusing on movements of

the body, either by moving specific parts of the body or observing the world
around you during a walk.

Object focus meditation: This type involves focusing attention on a specific object
or mental image.

IMPACT OF MEDITATION

Consciousness is often likened to a stream, shifting and changing smoothly as it

passes over the terrain. Meditation is one deliberate means of changing the course
of this stream, and in turn, altering how you perceive and respond to the world
around you.

Research has shown that meditation can have both physiological and psychological
effects. Some positive physiological effects include a lowered state of physical
26
arousal, reduced respiration rate, decreased heart rate, changes in brain wave
patterns, and lowered stress.

Some of the other psychological, emotional, and health-related benefits of

meditation include:

 Better management of symptoms related to anxiety disorders, depression,

sleep disorders, pain issues, and high blood pressure
 Better stress management skills
 Changes in different aspects of attention and mindfulness
 Increased self-awareness
 Improved emotional well-being
 Improved working memory and fluid intelligence
 Improved immunity
 Greater empathy for yourself and others
 Headache relief

27
STRESS IN SCHOOL STUDENTS AND BENEFIT OF MEDITATION

A certain level of stress is normal. And positive stress responses from events such
as changing schools and meeting new friends can actually help students learn and
grow. But when exposed to repeated stressful events without the tools to manage
feelings, stress can become emotionally and physically toxic. Research indicates
that when we feel overwhelming stress related to school it not only demotivates us
to do the work, it reduces our overall academic achievement and can lead to
increased dropout rates. Not to mention the negative health implications, including
depression, poor sleep, substance abuse, and anxiety.

Meditation has existed since the birth of mankind. This ancient exercise calms the
body and mind, relieves stress, and stimulates the brain. Its health benefits are well
documented. According to the latest research, meditation should be included in the
curriculum of students in order to do better at school and better deal with school
pressure. Also, you should not forget that you can pay for an essay at Essay Hub.
With the help of this essay writing service, you will be able to immerse yourself in
the deep world of meditation, without having to worry too much about your
studies.

A study proves that more than 1,800 students from all over the world shows that
meditation can improve students’ mental health, academic skills, and social skills.
Teenagers who study meditation at school’s report that they are better able to focus
on their tasks. They have a more positive view of life. Meditation has been shown
to promote greater self-identity and optimism.

CONCLUSION

Mindfulness meditation is a significant practice that can provide natural remedies

to a variety of issues related to human health as a cognitive strategy that helps in
recognition of feelings and thoughts as passive events created in a human mind it
cultivates consistent present moment awareness that is not reactive, allowing for a
more powerful and useful utilization of brain activity. Mindfulness and mediation
are effective in treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a condition where an
individual suffers from recurrent episodes of panic an anxiety in response to a past
sensory or emotional experience that had an over whelming impact on the
individual. It helps victims of this disorder to create a nonreactive connection with
their past traumatic memories, helping them re-experience the MINDFULNESS
AND MEDITATION16emotions and memories in a completely different manner
Mindfulness and meditation allows an individual to suppress secondary reactive
forces of avoidance and resistance. Mindfulness and meditation are also effective
in treatment of sexual addictions. They create a sound prevention relapse program
that makes an individual aware of emotions, urges and thought processes that
precede a sexual activity. Their awareness of all the inner body processes including
those that trigger a relapse is increased. Furthermore, mindfulness and meditation
helps victims of sexual addiction to free themselves from fantasies and fears,
helping the mind to attain a higher sense of equanimity. It gives a person the ability
to reflect on themselves instead of chasing external sources to help them cope with
their fears and fantasies. It helps the addict to have a higher sense of self esteem
leading to gradual reduction of weird behaviors. These two practices are also
effective in management of depression. Mindfulness and meditation can moderate
emotional arousal intensity when one is stressed. They also increase the levels
endorphins, serotonin, DHEA, GABA and HGH, secretions that reduce the effects
of cortical, which is the main stress .These beneficial brain chemicals combat the
effects of depression. Mindfulness and meditation are also effective in
management of drug addiction recovery because it alters some cognitive
processing in the brain reducing the potency of withdrawal symptoms. Mindfulness
and meditation practices equip drug addicts with better coping skills. They also
make them more aware of drug abuse triggers, helping them in their recovery.

30
Finally, mindfulness and meditation are effective in treatment of eating disorders.
They help people with eating disorders to develop non judgmental attitudes
towards the sensations, emotions and thoughts in their bodies. Mindfulness and
meditation increases their ability to notice fullness and hunger cues. It also
enhances their ability and willingness to deal with unpleasant emotions that trigger
eating disorders. All in all, mindfulness and meditation have proven to be highly
effective therapeutic practices that can have a positive impact on human health.

INTRODUCTION
An old age home houses elderly people who either have no family or have been
abandoned by their families.

The home usually has a care-taker who monitors the residents of the home and a
few helpers to take care of the residents.

A visit to an old-age home is a life-changing experience as it is filled with

emotions and sentiments. I had an opportunity to visit an old-age home as my
cousin was a volunteer for a local NGO and it was on the occasion of The
International Day of Service.

DESCRIPTION OF THE OLD-AGE HOME

“Gargi Vrudhashram” old-age home is situated in the “DOMBIVALI” West. It
was a two-storey building. It looked like the house was without maintenance for
years together. There was an elderly lady who was peeking through the window
on the first floor when we opened the gate. When we entered the home, we were
taken by surprise as there was more number of people than we had imagined.
There was a common room where elderly men and women ranging from the
ages of 60 till late 80s were seen. Some of them were indulged in watching the
television, some were sipping tea and chatting, some ladies were busy knitting
and others were staring at us. We had brought with us snacks which we
handover to caretaker. They were ecstatic to have food from outside.

EXPERIENCE
A visit to an old-age home is a life-changing experience as it is filled with
emotions and sentiments. I had an opportunity to visit an old-age home through
this community work activity. We had an interactive session next, where we heard
them as they poured their hearts out to us. Tears welled up in our eyes when we
heard how Mrs. Bhat still clung to hope, that her son would return from the United
States and take her with him. We laughed as Mr.Kadam told us about funny
incidents from his childhood. Mr. Doolan told us he went to KC College. He told
us how things were during his times. We bid farewell. The visit left a deep impact.
A deep impact on our conscious, and on us. We were more sensitive than what we
were when we arrived; sensitive towards the elderly. The visit was an epiphany.
Each one of us was determined to obdurately stand by our parents and elders,
through thick and thin. The residents at the old age home had motivated us all with
their hankering hearts and unwavering hopes.

From this community work I learned the benefit of group work is easier the
individual work. Because each group member participates in activity and acts
individually to achieve the target of the Group. Quantum of work also gets
distributed among individual so everyone can have mere focus and concentration
on their work. By their group work and community work I could be able to take
ownership of workload which are given to me. I learned a lot about social and
issues with people and how the plans to overcome do. Even we are working
