 Who is a System
 Administrator?
 A System Administrator or System Admin, is a person
  who is responsible for the upkeep , configuration, and
  reliable operation of computer systems; especially
  multi-user computers, such as servers.
 An individual responsible for maintaining a multi-user
  computer system, including a Local Area Network.
 They also install, maintain, and support an
  organization’s Information Technology systems.
 Why This Course?
 There are lots of reasons, but the main ones are:
 Systems Administration is an essential task, especially
 given the increasing importance of computers. So as an
 IT student you need to learn about system Administration.
 Systems Administration is difficult. Software developers
  and untrained people can't be Systems Administrators.
 Knowing about Systems Administration will make you a
  better programmer and computing professional, even if
  you don't find employment as a Systems Administrator.
 Course Features
 This course explores the practical elements of
  computer based system administration.
1.Hands-on experience with Ubuntu Linux.
2.Learn to install and run Linux on a Dualboot systems
 as well as on virtual machines (VMWare/Oracle virtual
 box).
3.Opportunities to allow students to explore their own
 interests and learn from the unique experience.
 Course Features
 After successful completion of the course, students
  should:
  1. Understand Systems Administration concepts
  2. Describe concepts and structure of the Linux
     operating system.
  3. Install and Partition a Linux System
  4. Use common commands and utilities for general
     file system operations.
  5. Write shell scripts for common shell environment.

6. Perform system administration tasks to manage
files, software, storage, users, processes, perform
backups and services.
7. Configure TCP/IP networking and common
network/internet services and clients such as SSH,
DNS, Apache

  session are expected of all students. This course
  depends on your active and informed participation.
 Students need to have read the given topic and be
  prepared with points for discussion.
 Many topics will be explored. Your active participation
  is vital to your success and the success of the class.

 Deadlines are sacred and firm. Failure to keep
  deadlines will adversely affect your grade.
 All written assignments should be typed.
 Written assignments will be assessed by content,
  format, following directions, and correct
  spelling/grammar.

 Attendance
 Regular attendance and promptness are expected at each
  lecture.
 The instructor is to be informed of unavoidable absences
  prior to the class meeting. The student is responsible for
  getting notes and assignments from other members.
 Cell phones shall not be used in the classroom during
  sessions. If you are expecting an emergency, you may
  place them on silent. If you receive a call, leave the room.
