Wren  Feathers

Lottie’s felt friends

This is a tutorial about using flat drawings to make puffy 2-D type stuffies as companions to your Lottie dolls.
The animals here are based on packaging from Forest Friends, School Days and Fossil Hunter Lottie
dolls available here:
https://www.lottie.com
You may not sell things made from this pattern for that reason.

As always, this tutorial is © by me (Jennie Bagrowski) and is for your personal use only, you MAY share it by linking to
this blog, you may NOT sell it or upload it to any site without my permission. If you downloaded this elsewhere it was
stolen from: http://jenwrenne.wordpress.com I assume you have basic sewing knowledge and the explanation should
suffice, but if you need help please email me!

One of the reasons I bought forest friend Lottie was her cute packaging, but sadly, she didn’t come with as many fun
accessories as my other Lotties. Given her name, she clearly needed some “forest friends” so I created a few from felt,
using the artwork on her packaging as inspiration. After that, my other Lotties begged for their own friends too! If
you’re looking for a project to use to help you teach hand sewing to a child, this is a great choice since they require only
one type of stitch, and can be made quickly from small scraps of felt. Note: These tiny toys pose a choking hazard to
young children who put things in their mouths and are intended for older children or adults.

You can use this technique to make other friends for your Lotties, just trace the drawings on the box and enlarge to the
desired size on a copier! Note that if you use images you don’t own the copyright to, your creations are suitable for
personal use only.

Use fabric markers/paint/beads/embroidery to create the features. Stack the pieces in layers, which will generally be
body/arms except in the case of the hedgehog and dinosaur, where you’ll have an extra layer in between.

Sew by hand all around, leaving an opening to stuff with fiberfill.

Stitch opening closed.

You can experiment with how many layers you put together.
To add more interest, cut different parts (arms, ears, tails, etc.) from different shades of felt. For example, this squirrel
could have had a contrasting stuffed tail made first and then attached inside the body seam.
To make things faster and easier reduce the number of layers. For example, this squirrel could have had the arms cut
out in the bottom layer instead and been made in only two pieces.

There are NO seam allowances included since these
pieces are stitched by hand.

Cat body is sewn first with opening at the top and

stuffed, then head is sewn with opening at the bottom,
stuffed and sewn to body. Legs are embroidered or
made of felt.

Wings are sandwiched between 2 layers
like hedgehog and feet are separate like
hedgie/squirrel arms.
