Setup

The Basics:

- Turn on Quest Headset

o Configure The Boundary
- Turn on PC
o Turn on the software
Setting Up The Boundary
Setting up the boundary consists of 2 parts. You’ll be asked to make sure the floor is correct, and
set the “walls” of where the VR demo ends. This marks a safe space in our headsets for clients. We
can do a dynamic or stationary boundary. Dynamic has you drawing the space in VR, and stationary
just saying “stand/sit right here and don’t move your body around”.

Below are screenshots showing the process of setting up a Stationary Boundary:

 Confirm the floor

 Switch to Stationary Boundary
 Confirm Stationary Boundary
 Plug the USB cable into the PC AT THE BACK OF THE LAPTOP

Setting up the PC
The PC is much easier to configure:

 First login to the PC (EcDev@119)

 Run “Meta Quest Link” (and then minimize the window)
 Run “SteamVR” (leave whatever pops up on the screen where it is)
 Run “Viroo Single Player” (Username: iwe_guest Password: 1q2w3e4r!)

Open Quest Link In the Headset

 On the dashboard in the headset, click the little battery/charging icon.

 On the next dashboard, click “Quest Link”
 Click Launch
Configure Boundary
Launch Quest Link
Execution
Congratulations for reaching this point. At this point you should see this screen:

Click on “New Session”. You will see a list of all of our scenes. Add whichever scenes you want to be
available by clicking the square box. The *first* scene you set will also be the lobby (you can change
this by clicking the round circle for any scene that is included). The lobby is *always* the first scene
loaded.

Hit start session when you’re ready and you’ll be taken back to the “Sessions” screen, this time with
a green “You have joined a session” message. Click play, and click Play with the VR option selected.
Controls

Each controller has one thumbstick, two buttons (B/A and X/Y), two triggers (one called a side grip,
and the other a proper trigger) and then also an option button (one shaped like an oval, one with
three lines).

The only thing you need to know for our demos:

The sticks are used for movement. One moves you forward/back and slides you left and right while
the other stick rotates you and activates a teleport mode (you’ll see an arc coming out of the
controller… pull the trigger to teleport to that point).

We don’t use the A/B/X/Y buttons at all. If you aim a controller at something and pull the front
trigger you “click” on a thing. If you put your controller *into* an object and use the side grip, you’ll
“grab” the object. Not all objects are clickable and not all objects are grabbable.

Press and hold the white button with three lines (left hand) until the circle goes all the way
around. This will bring up the menu to switch scenes
Demos
AreaXDotO Digital twin of a test track in Ottawa.
Arrow_v2 The Arrow EV digital twin.
Battery Training Demo An incomplete demo for virtual training.
Car Showroom Viroo – Showing o a high fidelity demonstration of a car
Cavalier Digital Twin celebrating Cavalier machinery and their partners.
EngineeringDemo2 A demonstration of being able to take apart a car.
Habitat for Humanity Digital twin of 3d printed home in Leamington
Hospital Boxes Viroo – Demo of a hospital scene
Hospital-Test DO NOT RUN
IWE Lobby Digital twin of our VR Cave at the AIC. You can control the lights.

Viroo Lobby Viroo Lobby
Wind Turbine Viroo – Wind Turbine that pulls real weather data from locations.

The big demos you’ll run are AreaXDotO, Arrow_v2, Cavalier, and the Tunnel. They all control the
same, except Cavalier has the most interaction and the Tunnel has teleport points.

Tunnel Teleport Points

Press and hold the white button with three lines (left hand) until the circle goes all the way around.
This will bring up the menu to switch scenes, but in the Tunnel demo there will also be a menu
called teleport. Click that, then Teleport Points to bring up a menu of places you can visit in the
demo.
Cavalier

Cavalier has 2 modes: Playback and Explore. In playback, you can make parts transparent by
clicking them in the selector (on the right). Change the opacity with the opacity squares. You can
slow down the demonstration with the speed selection squares. You can play, pause or stop the
demonstration via the triangle, two lines, or the square just below playback.

In Explore mode, instead of making things translucent, clicking an item in the selector sends it to
the table. You can move to the table and “Grab” the object, or use the sphere near the table to
manipulate the object remotely.

Switching modes resets everything, in case things get *weird*. The cavalier logo above the selector
can be flipped to switch between Cavalier parts (shown in the screenshot) and partners who
provided additional parts on the mould. Partners are shown by their logos.
Troubleshooting
If the demos stop responding, you can press ALT-F4 on the keyboard to close Viroo. Then just
relaunch it.

If the headset stops responding, try resetting the demo first. If that doesn’t work, try unplugging
the headset from the PC, close Viroo, wait 5 seconds, then plugging it back in. You Will have to
follow the steps for Quest Link again, and relaunch Viroo.

If the headset is accidentally unplugged, follow the same steps as above.

If the computer stops responding entirely (no keyboard, no mouse, nothing): hold the power
button down until it turns o . Wait 10 seconds. Turn the PC back on and start over from the
beginning.

If Quest Link doesn’t start, ensure the usb cable is plugged into the BACK of the laptop (that’s the
only USB3.0 port it has). If it is plugged in, make sure the Oculus software is running.

If Quest Link works but the demos don’t show in the headset, ensure SteamVR is running. Make
sure you’ve created a session in Viroo, and that you’ve hit Play (in VR mode).

IF ALL ELSE FAILS, call me. I’m here to help. I will help. We can do this, together.
