PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATE
1. You have SIX HOURS to attempt all the questions in SECTION A, B and C
2. Marks for each question are indicated in brackets ().
3. This paper consists of FOUR questions
4. Answer all questions as instructed by the examiner.
5. Do not write on the question paper.

1. Replace the wheel cylinder seals and shoes for the brake on the vehicle provided.
Adjust and bleed the braking system (30MKS)
(1⅟2 hours)

Tools, materials and equipment required:


o A vehicle fitted with drum brakes
o Wheel chock
o Jack
o Safety stands
o Workshop tools
o Cleaning materials
o Replacement seals
o Brake fluid
o Bleeding equipment

2. Assess the front braking system of the vehicle provided. Service the disc brake
assembly and carry out all the checks required of the system (40MKS)
(2⅟2 hours)

Tools, materials and equipment required:


o A vehicle fitted with front disc brake system
o Wheel chock
o Jack
o Safety stands
o Workshop tools
o Cleaning materials
o Dial gauge
o Replacement disc pads
o Grease

3. On the vehicle provided, remove the vacuum servo unit and the master cylinder
assembly. Replace the servo unit, overhaul and service the master cylinder assembly.
Fit back the unit. (30MKS) (2 hours)

o A vehicle fitted with vacuum assist power brakes


o Replacement vacuum servo unit
o Replacement master cylinder kits
o Workshop tools
o Brake fluid
o Cleaning materials
