2 Introduction
As long as the entire network of the bank is in a single database, transactions between
branches get reconciled without any problems by way of inter SOL transactions. However, in a
decentralized environment (flexi centralized or multiple data center), the bank must have a
process to reconcile transactions done between the branches belonging to different data

t
centers. The transactions that take place between branches of different data centers are
handled through the head office accounts of Finacle.

ghht
FOR EXAMPLE:
Transactions done between a Finacle branch and non-Finacle branch must be reconciled using head office accounts.

In a decentralized environment, if transaction takes place between branches of different data

igi
centers, Finacle handles reconciliation of transactions between those branches through head

yyrr
office accounts. You can identify transactions with different categories for various MIS
information. You can restrict different types of transactions for different categories.
FOR EXAMPLE:
Some banks restrict originating debit type of HO transactions.

5.3 Transacting in Head Office Accounts
leC
In a HO account, transactions can be created as cash, transfer or clearing. While doing
transactions in HO accounts, you must specify visit screen details that denote the transaction as
originating, responding, parking or reversal type.
In case of transactions to HO accounts, either credit or debit, you must indicate additional
details. The additional details include the branch code on which the originating or responding
alce

transaction is being done.

In the additional details while creating a transaction to HO account, you must specify the
transaction category code for every transaction. These transaction category codes are created-
inc

using the MTCS menu option.

FOR EXAMPLE:

Transactions into HO accounts can be of the following types:

igi

yyrr
• Reversal Transactions
• Transaction into Parking Type of Accounts

5.3.1 Originating Transactions

opp
A transaction which is initiated by branch A on branch B is referred to as originating transaction
in branch A. The transaction could be originating debit or originating credit. Some banks do not
permit initiating originating debit transaction. Even where it is permitted there may be restrictions
Co
on the transaction amount as to the minimum and maximum amount of transaction. Each
transaction must be associated with a transaction category code. You must use a code linked
with the product under which the account is opened. Finacle validates whether a category code
leC
is being linked with the product and if not linked throws an error. It also validates against the
transaction sub type and checks if such a transaction is permitted for that particular category
code. Here again Finacle does not allow transactions to happen unless it is defined at the
category code level. Finacle also calculates the charges, if any, associated with the category
code automatically and allows modifications provided set up permits. It is also possible to create
alce

contra entry automatically if it is a transfer transaction. This is done based on the value set for
the field, Create Contra. If the value is set as Y, you must indicate the contra account for which
the transaction must be created.
inc

On accept, you are directed to the charge calculation screen if charges have been defined and
allows you to modify based on the set up. If you want to change the amount you can do so.
Finacle stores what it had calculated along with the user defined or modified charges. Accept
nFa

brings you back - to the first screen and cursor is in the data block. You must specify the bank
and branch to which the transaction pertains and indicate the transaction particulars. Finacle
provides for entering 5 lines of information pertaining to transaction as part of particulars. The
amount can also be split into various parts. However, you must ensure that the total amount
matches the total of amounts that is split and it must be equal to the transaction amount. You
can override the advice indicator which is default populated. If you are over riding, you must
Fi

ensure that the other particulars are entered appropriately. As part of additional information, you
can use standard header information while printing the advice. These codes can be created
using the ARC menu option and used in the additional details screen. These details must be
used as part of printing the advice using the MRT utility. Accept from the screen takes you to the
option block of transaction maintenance menu from where you can proceed further.
Refer Maintain Reference Codes for ARC menu option details.

yyrr
Here, a branch advice is generated by branch A and forwarded to branch B based on which branch B credits the
customer of their branch.

5.3.2 Responding Transactions

opp
When a transaction is put through in response to an originating transaction received by the
branch, it is referred to as the responding transaction. As in the case of originating transaction,
Co
there is no restriction for responding transactions.
As in the case of originating transaction, you can indicate the category code. Finacle does all
the validations associated with the category code. You can also indicate whether contra
leC
transaction must be created, and if so, to which account. Bill Number field is mandatory
depending upon the set up done at the category code maintenance level. Accept directs you to
option lock of the transaction maintenance menu option screen from where the process is as for
other options.

5.3.3 Reversal Transactions

A transaction which is put through to nullify the effect of an earlier transaction is known as a
reversal transaction. A reversal transaction could involve:
• Reversal of originating debit
• Reversal of originating credit

t
• Reversal of responding debit
• Reversal of responding credit

ghht
There is no partial reversal of earlier transaction. The entire amount must be reversed. Since
reversal transaction refers to an earlier transaction, the earlier transaction must be selected and
matched. In order to select the earlier transaction, you can specify all information or based on
certain criteria, get a list of the records and select the appropriate one out of the selected
records.

igi
The value N is populated by default in the Original transaction prior to field. If the transaction is

yyrr
prior to the date displayed, then the indicator must be set to Y. This feature is provided to
reverse transactions done prior to computerisation or old or purged transactions. If the indicator
is Y, other details must be furnished. Else, based on some of the criteria indicated Finacle lists
the records.

opp
You can specify if you want to reverse originating transaction or responding transaction. By the
nature of transaction that is put through now, Finacle retrieves the other type of transaction:
Co
• If the present transaction is credit, Finacle brings up debit transactions.
• If the present transaction is debit, Finacle brings up credit transaction depending upon
leC
the value for this field.
If Finacle retrieves more than one record you must accept the particular record. Navigate and
go to the required record. Select from that position brings the cursor to the bottom portion of the
screen where in you can specify information about the account to which either debit or credit
must happen. Again this is based on the indicator indicated for the Create Contra field If it is Y,
alce

then you must indicate the account for which the contra transaction must be created. If the
reversal is of an originating transaction and event ID is created for reversal of originating
transaction, then Finacle calculates the charges and takes you to the charge screen. If
modifications are permitted, you can do the necessary changes depending upon the
inc

requirement and accept from the charge screen to come back to the main transaction
maintenance screen and proceed further in the usual manner. If there are no charges
associated, you are directed back to the transaction maintenance screen without going to the
nFa

charge screen but a message is displayed that the charges are not calculated.

5.3.4 Transactions to Parking Type of Accounts

An account under the HOC scheme type can be a non-parking HO account or it can belong to
the Parking scheme type. In case of parking accounts, all debit transactions are parking type of
Fi

transaction. All credit transactions are Adjustment type of transactions. There cannot be any
other type of transaction to a Parking type of account. All the fields are similar to that of a non-
parking account transaction. Bar Ind. is similar to Advice Ind.. A bar number is generated by
Finacle if the BaR Ind. is S. Else, you must specify the Bar No. for credit adjustment type
transaction. You can give some criteria and list records for reversal of parking type of
transactions. You must select a record which you must match and click Accept. This brings you
to the main screen of transaction maintenance menu from where you can proceed with other
processes.

Some banks do not allow the HO account to be debited. In other words, originating debit is not
permitted. In such a case they debit an account called parking account and send an advice to
the other branch. The other branch then debits the HO account and sends an advice to the
earlier branch based on which they adjust the parking account entry.
FOR EXAMPLE:

t
Parking account transactions:
Branch A is in need of cash and gets cash from Branch B say INR 10 lakhs. Assume that branch A cannot debit
branch B directly. Then the transaction is:

ghht
Branch A:
Debit cash account
Credit HO account (an advice is sent to branch B)

igi
Branch B (while remitting funds to branch B)

yyrr
Debit parking account (BAR raised on branch A)
Credit cash account (cash sent to branch A)

opp
