SUCCESS
What makes a person successful?
Being successful is just about money? Love, beauty and success can be very subjective topics to
talk about. According to “Indeed” A successful person is someone who sets and achieves goals. In
addition, characteristics as being positive, they have clear objectives to achieve define a successful
person (iSEAZY). When you achieve success in your goals, it makes you feel proud, motivates you to do
well and lets you know you have made an impact in a competitive world (Oberlo). In my opinion a
person becomes successful for 3 reasons: First, because priorities in the human being depend on many
factors such as culture, education, family among others, secondary because perceptions change
according to the person, and third, because to measure either love, beauty or success, is impossible.
When it comes to success, it is important to mention that despite the fact there is not just one way to
determine if someone is successful or not, there are a few signs that can guide us in this definition of a
successful person.
Priorities can be defined as aspects that one person or organization put at the top of their list of
the most important things to pay attention to. In concordance to that, what is important for someone
can be absurd to another person, that is why it is difficult to compare successful cases or people, based
on how they oriented their cases. In addition, conditions as marital status, age and even religion play an
important role when we want to talk about success. For example, Ana, 19 years old, who was born in a
catholic and very religious family, dreams about becoming a wife and have 3 kids. For Ana, to be
successful will go in function of her beliefs and religion. However, someone who has reached the level at
which they wanted to be in a certain timeframe, no matter if in comparison with other person, that goal
seems to be useless, could be considered successful. Additionally, the company works for different
priorities in order to achieve their goals. For instance, to get more clients, they will work on
advertisements or publications to attract clients. In addition, another goal could be improving the sales.
Every person or institution’s work depends on their priority with the purpose of achieving their current
goal.

Secondly, everyone has different ways of thinking, some people may define success as being
happy and fulfilled, while others may define it as having status and accomplishments and this is because
we have experienced different things, so even being successful is relative, it all depends on the person
and what the person believes about success. For example, a mother can be successful because she has a
good family. Also, getting a promotion makes you a successful person since you work hard for it.
Obviously if you have experienced a more difficult situation, you will have the mentality and the
perception of what you want to be. For example, according to Beth Johnson, the journalist who
interviewed Erika Hilario. She says that Erika, after experiencing all this bad situation, had the perception
of being successful, and this is reflected when she builds a family. We all have different ways of thinking
and different terms of success, the unique characteristic they have is wanting to be successful.
Finally, to measure a feeling could be impossible considering human beings have different ways
to express their emotions. Same happen with success, because to measure something that is based on
criteria developed by individual characteristics of a person or social group, is very difficult. Nevertheless,
when someone is seen as an example, that is a real proof that whatever that person is doing, is worthy
of being replicated. For example, the child who wants to do the same as his parents. Moreover, the
young athlete who wants to be like his idol. But in contrast, to judge if someone is successful just based
on how much money has, their professional title, world recognition, etc, is a wrong way to measure
success. So, someone who achieved their goals, based on their priorities, can be considered success just
for the fact that they finished something that maybe others did not. In the same way. For instance,
someone who was born in an aboriginal tribe has different perceptions about life, about goals, and
maybe just the fact of being able to reproduce themselves and keep the tribe alive is considered
successful. On the contrary for those who believe in success in terms of money and recognition, Jeff
Bezos would be the best example.
In conclusion, success can be defined as achieving personal goals and objectives, becoming what
you really want to be, and it is not just looking for money, some people prefer having peace of mind than
having a lot of money. Furthermore, success is also about perceptions, attitudes and mindset, because in
my opinion, success is a formula and if you don't follow these factors, you will not be successful. Finally,
if you are someone else's example of success it means that you are doing very well, but don't stop, never
stop and never give up.
