Aztecs, known for their cultural and architectural achievements. The Spanish Conquest (1519-1521)
transformed Mexico into a Spanish colony until the Mexican War of Independence (1810-1821)
brought liberation. The 19th century featured conflicts such as the Mexican-American War and the
French Intervention. The Porfiriato era (1876-1911) under Porfirio Díaz brought modernization but
also inequality, leading to the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920) and significant reforms. In the 20th
century, the PRI dominated politics until democratic transitions began with Vicente Fox's election in
2000.

E. Religion

Religion in Mexico has been a significant aspect of its culture and history. The majority of
Mexicans identify as Christians, with the largest denomination being Roman Catholicism. Catholicism
was introduced during the Spanish colonization in the 16th century and has since become deeply

In addition to Christianity, Mexico has a rich tradition of indigenous religions that predate the
arrival of the Spanish. These indigenous beliefs often blend with Catholicism, creating a unique
syncretic religious culture. One prominent example is the celebration of Día de los Muertos (Day of
3

the Dead), which combines indigenous practices with Catholic traditions.
