Dominican tourist centers

Tourist Pole No. 1 Caribbean Coast


Located on the Southeast coast , from Santo Domingo to La Romana.

The cove:

This park-museum is in an area located shortly before reaching the Las


Américas international airport, on the sea side. Various Taíno tombs and
archaeological remains are displayed in buildings with palm leaf roofs. The
skeleton of a couple suggests that the wives of the inhabitants were buried
with their husbands upon his death.

Small Mouth:

Coastal lagoon limited by a coral barrier. Extraordinary beach with


transparent waters and white sand discovered at the end of the last century
by the Italian immigrant Don Juan Vicini, thus beginning its tourist history.

San Pedro de Macoris:

The Central University of the East operates, where there is a large colony
of foreign students and an influx of students from the entire eastern area. It
is located at the mouth of the Higuamo River. Today this province has
outstanding economic and commercial development. The growth of the
tourist offer of Juan Dolio-Guayacanes has greatly contributed to its
development.

Juan Dolio:

The Caribbean coast on the east coast of the island is dotted with long
stretches of white sand beaches and several tourist centers have been built
along its shores and the closest to the Airport of the Americas, the largest in
the nation, is Juan Dolio.

The Roman:

Perhaps the Dominican city with the greatest international renown, despite
being one of the youngest in the country.

Here is Altos de Chavón, a place where art is breathed, a community of


artists dedicated to cultural exchange, a work of great architectural value,
which evokes the creative spirit.
On the edge of a Canyon that flows dramatically into the Chavón River, we
find the home of the Altos de Chavón Amphitheater, one of the most
outstanding stages in the world, where important international stars
perform in the open air.

2ND TOURIST POLE: “COSTA AMBAR OR PUERTO PLATA”.

In 1972, decree 2125 was issued declaring the east pole as a priority tourist
demarcation. It includes the entire northern coast of the republic, from
Punta Russia in the extreme northwest, La Isabela, Luperón, Playa Cofresí,
Long Beach, Puerto Plata, Sosúa, Cabarete, Río San Juan and Cabrera in
the extreme northeast. It is the fastest growing and developing tourist hub.

This area has the privilege of presenting a summer climate all year round,
and in addition, it is never touched by the cyclones that hit the Caribbean.

Isabella:

Here was the first permanent settlement of the new world. Excavations are
currently being carried out.

Luperon:

Here is the bay of the Bajabonico River, the place where Columbus entered
the island and where the ruins of the first city built by Europeans on the
new continent are located.

It was in that place where the first Christian mass was celebrated in the
New World in 1494. Today that place is also called “Solas de las
Américas”.

Puerto Plata:

It is a city with a marked Victorian style that exhibits Fort San Felipe as
one of its colonial relics. Among its many attractions is the cable car that
goes up to the peak of Mount Isabel de Torres, an important Amber
Museum and Playa Dorada. It has the most important amber mines. Almost
its entire coast has been included in ambitious tourism projects.

Sosua:

Founded by Jewish emigrants on June 29, 1940, this city is located on both
sides of the sickle-shaped bay, and is called the Ibiza of the Dominican
Republic. It has a kilometer of beach of incomparable beauty. This little
beach has something special, when you enter you will feel the pleasure of
stepping on the waters, so crystal clear, almost unreal.

Cabarete:

Beach on the North coast considered the best in America for Windsurfing.
Puerto Plata polo tourist site with several schools of this sport. Place where
the best in the world of Windsurfing meet every year. Beach where national
folklore, international tourism and the famous sport of Windsurfing come
together.

Beautiful beach where the world fame of windsurfing also allows you to
appreciate the mountains, its two lagoons (Cabarete and Punta Goleta), its
nearby caves and its hamlet of descendants of black freedmen brought from
the United States in the last century. From a geomorphological point of
view, it is located in the Yasica coastal plain.

San Juan River:

It is distinguished from other areas of the Caribbean and the country,


because we can still find here virgin and desert beaches where we can
enjoy at our leisure the majestic natural landscape that serves as a
background for the refreshing transparent waters of its sea and its tropical
climate. And all just a few minutes from comfortable and welcoming hotels
with modern facilities that provide visitors with all the facilities they may
need. Among the main attractions in the area, we can mention the
following:

· Around fifteen virgin beaches, including Playa Escondida and Playa


Grande, one of the most beautiful in the country.

· The Gri-Gri Lagoon, whose name is due to the trees that are part of its
copious vegetation on the shore.

· The Cabo Francés Viejo National Park.

· The Amazonia 2 tropical park.

Luperon Bay:

Low seabed, surrounded by mangroves, and reached by a road with


beautiful panoramic views.
Costambar:

With great tourist infrastructure resources, it has the Caribean Village


Resort, Hacienda Tropical, Hotel Riu Merengue, and the Puerto Plata
Beach Resort.

Golden Beach:

It is another of the tourist spots in Puerto Plata, with hotels from the
Occidental and Amhsa chains, it is very popular and the tourism boom has
made restaurants, shops, shopping centers and service companies flourish
there.

TOURIST POLE NO.3, PUNTA CANA MACAO OR “EST COAST”

Located in the eastern region of the country, it borders to the north with the
Atlantic Ocean; to the south, a line parallel to the coast at a distance of five
kilometers; to the east, with the Yaguada River, near Miches; and to the
west, by the town of Juanillo and a Frankish East-West line. This area has
the best beach resources on the island, ranging from the Los Haitices
National Park to the Este National Park; with more than 64 km of fine
white sand beaches.

Punta Cana:

With white sand and giant palm trees surrounded by crystalline turquoise
waters and tropical gardens, in a perfect integration of a privileged natural
environment with all the comfort and hospitality so that vacations become
unforgettable moments that will make tourists return year after year.

Juanillo Beach:

It is located at the eastern end of the southeastern or Caribbean coastal


plain. Juanillo, where our island geography meets the Caribbean Sea and
the rising sun is our cardinal point.

Bavarian:

A 1968 UNESCO report states: “This area is truly exceptional. Of all the
beaches in the world, few have such crystal clear waters. The sand is so
white it's hard to believe it's real. We can affirm, without a doubt, that this
area is among the best in the world.” Almost three decades have passed and
this description still holds up.

TOURIST POLE NO. 4 JARABACOA - CONSTANZA


Pole in which ecotourism is developed, created by decrees nos. 1157 2729
of September 2, 1977. It is made up of the municipalities of Jarabacoa and
Constanza. It has holiday centers suitable for hermits and hikers who like to
explore and walk on foot or on horseback. It is the only tourist region in the
country that does not have a beach.

It is in this tourist region where the highest altitude in the Antilles is


located, Pico Duarte, with 3087m above sea level. There is also the Pelona
hill with about 3045m high. The highest free fall waterfall in the Antilles is
located, Aguas Blancas de Constanza, with two waterfalls of about 83m,
and it is there where the lowest temperatures in the Antilles have been
recorded, 8ºC below zero.

It has rapid rivers in Jarabacoa, which are extremely attractive for lovers of
extreme sports.

TOURIST POLE NO.5, SAMANA- LAS TERRENAS

Pole located in the bay of Samaná and Las Terrenas, it has a great
infrastructure and a still unexplored tourism potential. Its proximity to the
tourist area of Macau-Punta Cana has delayed its development, but tourism
projections for the current decade nevertheless predict sustained growth.

Samana:

It has always attracted visitors, not only for its beautiful beaches of light
sand and shaded on its shores by hundreds of coconut trees, but also for its
strategic position in the Caribbean geography.

Added to this are other attractions, such as semi-urban and rural towns,
interesting caves and caverns, cays or islets in the middle of the bay and the
landscape modified by man into large areas of coconut trees, leaving
among this greenery, remnant forests. , streams, cliffs, and hidden beaches.

The virgin beaches that Samaná has, the keys, its bridges and the
fascinating view of the bay make this peninsula a true paradise.

On this peninsula is the Los Haitises National Park, the majesty of the
mogotes loaded with vegetation, the impressiveness of the humid forest,
the visual richness of the mangrove forests and the diversity of flora and
fauna, together with the historical and cultural resources. , especially the
caves give Los Haitises enormous appeal. It is located in the south of the
peninsula, and is accessed by land or sea.
Another great attraction of Samaná is the Limón waterfall, about 40m high,
located in one of the hills that make up the Sierra de Samaná, in the north
of the peninsula, about 300m above sea level.

Raised key:

It has humid forest vegetation, paradisiacal beaches and a small hotel with
cabins.

Place from where humpback whales are sighted during the January-March
seasons. The whales come from the northern Atlantic Ocean to the Banco
de la Plata Sanctuary, in the north of our country to reproduce and care for
their calves during the winter months. We can observe the beautiful
spectacle of their tails waving in the placid and warm waters of the bay.

Cayo Levantado, a place where tourists and exuberant natural beauty


compete for reign.

Las Terrenas:

Cream-colored sand beach located on the northeast coast of the country,


belonging to the Samaná peninsula, specifically located on the northern
coast of the Sierra de Samaná.

TOURIST POLE NO.6, BARAHONA-ENRIQUILLO-


PEDERNALES.

This center is in the process of development, and has slow growth because
its infrastructure is recently built. It extends from Barahona Bay to the
municipality of Enriquillo.

The main roads are in good condition, and some small hotels already exist
and others are being built and the Barahona landing strip has been prepared
for large capacity aircraft.

In order to protect its flora and fauna, in the 70s and 80s three national
parks were created, Cabritos Island, Sierra de Bahoruco and Rincón de
Cabral Lagoon. The Isla Cabrito national park is one of the most attractive
points of this pole, it is located within Lake Enrriquillo and its access route
is by boat across the lake; Also called Guarizacca, Isla Cabritos is about
12km long and has an altitude that varies from 40m below sea level. No
reefs or freshwater currents. As attractions, the island has the fauna of Lake
Enrriquillo: the American crocodile, iguanas, flamingos, and other aquatic
birds.
The Jaragua National Park is also an important point of this pole, located in
the province of Pedernales, it is the largest of the protected areas in the
country, it includes an extensive marine area and the Beata and Alto Velo
islands.

Flamingo abounds in its natural habitat in the Oviedo Lagoon. For animal
lovers, you can observe the Ricordi Iguana, the Rhinoceros Iguana, the
solenodente, the hutía and four species of turtles, all in danger of
extinction.

In addition to interesting national parks, this area has beautiful beaches


such as Los Patos, Bahía de las Aguilas, Cabo Rojo, and many more
beaches that are still virgin, waiting to be discovered.

TOURIST POLE NO.7 MONTECRISTI - PEPILLO SALCEDO

Created under decree 16-93. It extends from the coast of Montecristi to


Pepillo Salcedo, northern part of the country. This is a pole of characters of
courage and history. In Montecristi, the house of the liberator Máximo
Gómez is an attraction, the house where the meeting with the Cuban hero
José Martí took place, which has been converted into a museum.

Among its attractions is the morro, which is a hill shaped like a lying
camel, like an old hound guarding the port of the city of Montecristi and
the beach of Montecristi, with rough, reddish sand and strong waves that
hit the cliff that It is formed behind the El Morro hill.

TOURIST POLE NO. 8 BANI.

Created by decree in September 1995. Located about 58 kilometers from


Santo Domingo.

It has the Bahía de las Calderas, which is a tourist area capable of


becoming a place that can satisfy the needs of tourism based on the
demands of good beaches, radiant sun and a pleasant climate. It is also an
important naval base protected by the closed conformation of the peninsula.
Within its tourist inventory we can also highlight Las Dunas, which are the
only sand mountains that can be found in the entire Caribbean.
This area also has abundant rivers with large currents and clear waters such
as the Nizao River. The Salinas also make up this pole, which are salt
mines produced on terraces, where seawater evaporates.
