CONCEPT:
Decide how many children you want to have and when to have them (let time pass
between one pregnancy and the next). Family planning will allow us to improve the
living and health conditions of the entire family.

METHODS:
There are several family planning methods or contraceptive methods.

ORAL CONTRACEPTIVES: “The Pill” These are very small pills or tablets that
prevent ovulation.
Key Points: Take one pill every day starting when directed. Changes in bleeding
(menstruation or “period”) are normal, but they are not harmful. If you miss a pill,
take it as soon as possible. They do not interfere with sex, that is, it does not affect
the sexual relationship. They do not prevent the spread of sexually transmitted
diseases. They help protect against some cancers and reduce period pain. When
the pill is stopped, a woman can become pregnant again. PRETTY SAFE method
to avoid pregnancies.

INJECTABLE CONTRACEPTIVES: “The injection” These are injections that are

administered from time to time, which prevent ovulation. There are injections that
are given only once a month, or every 2 months or every 3 months.
Key points: They are private: no one has to know that the woman uses them. You
have to give yourself the injection again when told to do so. There is no menstrual
bleeding for some women. Some women gain weight. Is administered

by injection into the muscle of the buttock or arm. It does not interfere with sex,
that is, it does not affect the sexual relationship. It does not prevent the spread of
sexually transmitted diseases. Helps protect against some cancers and iron
deficiency anemia. When the injection is stopped, the woman can become
pregnant again. VERY SAFE method to avoid pregnancies.

CONDOMS or CONDOMS: male and female They are bags or covers made of a
very thin material called “latex”. The male condom is placed on the man's penis
when it is erect, and does not allow sperm to enter the woman. The female
condom is placed in the woman's vagina. It has two plastic rings or rings to place it
so it does not move.
Key points: It is the only contraceptive method that protects against sexually
transmitted diseases (STDs), including HIV/AIDS. It has to be used correctly, only
once with each sexual act. Before using the condom, check the expiration date. It
requires the cooperation and acceptance of its use from both men and women. It is
good to talk about its use before the act. They do not decrease the sexual drive.
They are lubricated so that they do not bother: they have a kind of oil that helps
make the sexual act pleasurable. They are also used by married couples, not just
in relationships outside of marriage. They can be used without having to consult a
healthcare professional. FAIRLY SAFE method IF USED CORRECTLY. 90%
SAFE
IUD: INTRAUTERINE DEVICE It is a very small, plastic device that is T-shaped
and is placed in the woman's uterus. Protects against pregnancy for a long time:
from 3 to 10 years depending on the type of IUD. It must be placed by a specialist
doctor. When the woman has the IUD inserted, there are no costs, nor does the
woman have to do anything. It does not feel. It does not bother. They do not
interfere with sex, that is, it does not affect the sexual relationship. They do not
prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. When it is removed, the
woman can get pregnant without problems VERY SAFE method.

PERIODIC CONTINENCE, “OGINO” METHOD or natural family planning:

It is about avoiding unprotected sex during the days when the woman is most
fertile, that is, the days when the woman can get pregnant, which are the 4 days
before and 4 days after menstruation or ruler. It can be used by those women who
have regular menstruation, that is, when their period or menstruation always lasts
the same days. The woman has to keep track of the days of her menstrual cycle.
The couple must commit to abstinence or use another method during the fertile
days when the woman can become pregnant. They do not prevent the spread of
sexually transmitted diseases. UNSAFE method.

HOW IS IT CALCULATED?: 1. The woman keeps track of the days of her

menstrual cycle, counting the first day of menstruation as day 1.
2. The couple avoids vaginal sex or uses condoms on days 8 to 19 of their cycle.
3. The couple can have unprotected sex on days 1 to 7, at the beginning of the
cycle, and from day 20 until the next menstruation begins. If you want to use this
method, it is important that you know very well how to do it, how to count the days,
ask at a Reproductive Health Service.

WHO IS FAMILY PLANNING FOR? :

Youth and Adults. Women and Men If the man collaborates, he can influence the
woman to practice a healthy habit, to be healthy, and to ensure that her children
are also healthy.
