· Call our 24-hour automated billing system at 800.777.9898. We accept debit/credit card (MasterCard,
Visa, Discover) or automated check processing through a third-party vendor.
· Pay in person at one of our preferred locations. To find a location, visit duke-energy.com/home/billing/
payment-locations.
Please keep in mind that if your account is disconnected, a reconnection fee of $9.90 will be required to restore
your service along with your past-due account balance. After-hours reconnections may require an additional fee,
and accounts that carry a past-due balance or have been disconnected for nonpayment in the past may be charged
a new or additional deposit.
If you are having difficulty paying your bill, please contact us to discuss possible payment options. You may
request an installment payment plan designed to bring your account current as soon as possible. An installment
payment plan requires the customer to pay the current bill and not less than 1/6 of the outstanding balance for
electric service for a period not to exceed six months. A late payment charge will be applied each month to the
unpaid balance. You may also contact local social service agencies to determine if federal, state or private payment
assistance is available for you.
If you have a dispute about your bill that you are unable to resolve with us, you may speak in person with the
Public Staff - North Carolina Utilities Commission’s Consumer Service Division. You may also call them at
866.380.9816, email them at consumer.services@psncuc.nc.gov or write to them at 4326 Mail Service Center,
Raleigh, North Carolina 27699-4326.
Customers who meet eligibility requirements set by the commission will not be disconnected during the months of
November through March. Eligibility requirements include all of the following: (a) That a member of the customer’s
household is either handicapped or elderly (65 years of age or older), or both. (b) That the customer is unable to
pay for such service in full or in accordance with subsection (I)(3) of this rule. (c) That the household is certified by
the local social service office which administers the Energy Crisis Assistance Program or other similar programs as
being eligible (whether funds are then available or not) to receive assistance under such programs. To see the
