Tools and Pay attention, that the size of your toy
will be different in case of using the
materials materials other than indicated below.
1. YarnArt Jeans yarn (50g/160m), color 03 (cream) - a half of a
skein.
2. YarnArt Jeans yarn (50g/160m), color 81 (snowy blue) - one skein
was enough for my toy, but you might need much yarn because of
different crochet density.
3. Alice Cotton Gold yarn (100g/330m), color 182 (graphite) - less
than one of a skein.
4. YarnArt Jeans yarn (50g/160m), color (black) - small amount for
eyes.
5. YarnArt Jeans yarn (50g/160m), color 46 (grey) - small amount.
6. YarnArt Jeans yarn (50g/160m), color 07 (sand) - small amount.
7. YarnArt Jeans yarn (50g/160m), color 71 (cocoa) - small amount.
8. Vita Coco yarn (50g/240m) of black color - small amount for face
details.
9. Thick cardboard for bottom and toaster walls. We will need three
pieces.
10. White felt for eye whites.
11. Super glue «Moment».
12. 2mm crochet hook (Clover) (US 4).
13. Fiberfill.
14. Sewing needle.
15. Scissors.
16. Stitch marker.
17. Tape measure and pencil.
18. Blusher or hard pastels for cheeks.
The yarn listed can be substituted with any yarn with similar
weight (number 2 in the Standard Yarn Weight System).
Abbreviations Let’s start!
MR - magic ring
dec - decrease
ch - chain
dc - double crochet
sc - single crochet
sl st - slip stitch
inc - increase
hdc - half double crochet
st, sts - stitch, stitches
(..)*n - repeat the instructions in brackets n times
(x) - at the end of the round I write a total number of stitches in brackets
In this pattern we use US terminology.
Notes Please, read these notes attentively!
Some pieces of our toaster are crocheted in turning rows, other
pieces are crocheted in a spiral. Be attentive, follow the instructions.
You will need to work shift stitches when working at some pieces.
The shift stitches are additional sc, we work them to shift the stitch
marker to the necessary point.
The finished toy sizes in case of using the materials listed: the width
of my toaster - 14.5 cm (5.5 inches), the height - 10 cm (3.9 inches). My
stitches have an semi-X-shape (I do yarn under, then yarn over when
working sc stitch). If you do yarn over/yarn over, then your toy would
be bigger.
Also pay attention that if you used a different material to crochet the
toy, the size would be different than mine.
The pattern doesn’t include any crochet lessons. You should know
how to crochet basic stitches.
Start crocheting in cream color. The
Bottom bottom is crocheted in turning rows.
Use YarnArt Jeans yarn of
cream color. Work in turning
rows. Make a turning chain at the
end of every row. Make ch45,
crochet starting from the second
ch from the hook:
1) 44sc, ch, turn (44)
Crochet 27 rows more.
2-28) 44sc, ch, turn (44)
After we finished the row 28, don’t turn the work and crochet around
the piece we have gotten:
29) 27sc across the edge of turning rows, inc, 42sc, inc, 27sc across the
edge of turning rows, inc, 42sc, inc. We should get 146 stitches around
(146). Place marker.
Crochet 27sc across the edge of turning rows
Pay attention: we work 1sc into each of the rows!
The bottom for our toaster is finished ✅ Don’t cut the thread,
continue crocheting in cream color. At first we should strengthen our
bottom.
Take a thick cardboard piece and put our bottom on it. Draw an
outline around the piece and cut the cardboard bottom. Then cut about
a pair of centimetres across each of the sides.
Crochet in cream color, than change
to light blue color. The walls are
Walls crocheted in a spiral.
Work the next round into back loops
only:
30) 146sc (146)
Now crochet into both loops:
31-34) 146sc (146) - 4 rounds
When crocheting the last stitch change
the color to light blue (see the photo in
the next page). Cut the thread of cream
color.
35-64) 146sc (146) - 30 rounds
After we finish several rounds in light blue color, insert the cardboard
bottom and continue crocheting. After round 64 work 27 sc additionally.
Don’t finish the last stitch in Pull the light blue thread
the round 34, yarn over with through all the loops on the
the light blue thread hook
Continue crocheting in light The piece we should get
blue color looks like this
Now we need to measure the width and the height of the toaster
walls and cut two cardboard pieces. We will use them to strengthen
the front and the back sides of our walls:
The width of my piece - The height - about 8cm
13cm
8cm
13cm
Pay attention that the sizes of your walls can differ from mine
because of different crochet density. Be guided with your own
measurements!
At this stage put the main piece aside and now we are going to make
a pocket, where the toast will be inserted.
Use the yarn YarnArt Jeans, color 46
Pocket (grey).
Start crocheting the piece in turning
rows. Make ch25. Crochet from the
second ch from the hook:
1) 24sc, ch, turn (24)
2-3) 24sc, ch, turn (24) - two rows more
Don’t make a chain and don’t turn the
work at the end of the third row,
continue crocheting around the piece
we have just made:
4) work one more sc into the last stitch of the third row, then crochet
3sc across the edge of turning rows, increase at the corner, then work
22sc across the main row, increase at the corner, 3sc across the edge
of turning rows, increase at the corner. Place marker. Now we should
have gotten 58 stitches around the piece. (58)
Work the next round into back
loops only:
5) 58sc. Place marker (58)
All the next rounds are
crocheted into both loops:
6-18) 58sc (58) - 13 rounds
Fasten off the thread and cut.
Top part of the Crochet in light blue color. We will join
toaster our pocket as we go.
Take the main piece of light
blue color, which was put aside.
Insert the cardboard pieces to
strengthen the walls and stuff
2/3 of the piece, but don’t stuff
very firmly.
And continue crocheting the
top part of the toaster in light
blue color, work in turning rows.
We will join the pocket at the
central part of the toaster top.
At first we need to divide the round
into 4 parts - each part for one of the
toaster sides. Make sure, that the
stitch marker is located exactly at the
piece corner (see the photo in the
right side). If not, then work the
necessary amount of additional
stitches. I worked 3sc additionally and
divided the stitches of the last round
in this way:
27sts + 46sts + 27sts + 46sts
(see the photo below)
46sts
We have 27 stitches
left for the shorter
side of the toaster. It
means we will need to 27sts 27sts
crochet 27 turning
rows.
46sts
Let’s count the next round as the
first one, start the numeration from
the beginning.
1) work 46sc into back loops only,
ch, turn (46)
2-11) work into both loops: 46sc, ch,
turn (46) - 10 rows
In the row 12 we are going to join
our pocket for a toast.
12) work 11sc. Put the grey pocket to the row, count 4 stitches back
from the end of the last round on it and start crocheting from the fifth
stitch from the end: crochet 25sc through back loops of the pocket row
and through the toaster row at the same time, joining them. And finish
the row, making 10sc more across the toaster row. Then make a turning
chain and turn the work (46)
I give some step-by-step photos for illustrative purposes, they show
how to work this row:
We are going to crochet The pocket will be joined in
across one side of the the middle
pocket
Work 11sc Count 4 stitches from the
end of the round on the
pocket and insert the hook
into the back loop of the fifth
stitch
And insert the crochet hook Work 25sc across the back
at once into both loops of loops of the pocket and
the stitch on the main piece across the toaster row at the
same time
And finish the row, crocheting 10sc more
across the toaster row
Now we will need to make two
stripes, which should be located
at the pocket sides. Crochet
them in short rows:
13-16) 10sc, ch, turn (10) - 4 rows
19) in this row we are going to join the second side of the pocket: at
first crochet 10sc across the toaster. Don’t make ch and don’t turn the
work. Count 4 stitches from the end of the round on the grey pocket
and insert the hook into the fifth stitch from the round end (into back
loop). Continue crocheting the row across the grey pocket into back
loops only: 25sc. Then make ch12, turn the work and crochet across
the chain from the second ch from the hook:
20) 11sc, ch, turn (11)
There are step-by-step photos which show how to crochet the rows
19-20:
Work 10sc, count 4 stitches and Work 25sc across the back
insert the hook into back loop of loops of the pocket and
the fifth stitch across the row on the main
piece at the same time
We have worked 25sc Make ch12
Turn the work and crochet
Work the rows 20-23 - the
across the chain from the
second side stripe
second ch from the hook
21-24) 11sc, ch, turn (11) - 4 rows
Cut the thread, leaving a long thread tail to sew the opening between
the toaster and the pocket (on the both sides) - we will make a seam
across the wrong side of the piece.
The photos below show us how we will sew the opening
between the pieces
Now attach the thread of light
blue color to the left side of the
piece and make ch1, turn the work
and continue crocheting in turning
rows, crochet 10 rows:
25-34) 46sc, ch, turn (46) - 10 rows
Cut the thread, leaving a long thread tail for sewing, fasten off. Add
some more fiberfill around the pocket. Now we are going to sew the
opening. Count 27 stitches from the toaster corner where we have
started to crochet in turning rows and sew the opening starting from
the 28th stitch.
Add more fiberfill through the opening on the toaster sides, but don’t
stuff very firmly. Then sew them closed.
The main piece of our toaster is finished!
Crochet in grey color. We need to
Stripes make two identical pieces.
Make ch16. Start crocheting from the third
ch from the hook: 3 dc into one stitch, 12 dc
across one side of the chain, 6 dc into one
ch, 12 dc across another side of the chain, 3
dc into one ch (where we have already
crocheted 3 dc at the beginning). Join with
sl st. Cut the thread leaving a long thread tail
for sewing, fasten off.
Crochet in graphite color. Work in a
Arms spiral. We need to make two identical
pieces.
Make ch 6, start crocheting from the second ch from the hook:
1) 3sc into one ch, 3sc across one side of the chain, 3sc into the last ch,
3sc across another side of the chain (12) place marker.
2) 3inc, 3sc, 3inc, 3sc (18)
3-7) 18sc (18) - 5 rounds
Work several additional sc to shift the stitch marker to the piece side,
finish with sl st. Cut the thread, leaving a long thread tail for sewing, fasten
off. Stuff with fiberfill.
Crochet in graphite color . We need to
Legs make four identical pieces. Crochet in
a spiral.
1) 6sc in MR (6)
2) 6inc (12)
3) 12sc (12)
4) (1sc, inc)*6 (18)
5) 18sc (18)
Cut the thread, leaving a thread tail for sewing.
Crochet in black color. We need to
Eyes make two identical pieces. Crochet in
a spiral.
1) 6sc in MR (6)
2) 6inc (12)
3) (1sc, inc)*6 (18)
Cut the thread, leaving a tail for
sewing. Make two stitches in white color
on each of the eyes.
Prepare the white felt. Draw two
circles with the diameter of 3 cm in
width and about 3.3 cm in height. Cut
them out. Sew the black piece on the
white felt circle.
Now we need to sew all the pieces of
Assemblying the our toaster to the main piece, glue
the eyes and make the face details.
toaster
1. Sew the legs to the toaster
bottom, stuffing them a little
as we sewing them. I placed
the legs to each of the
corners, stepping a couple of
rows from the edges.
2. Sew the grey stripes to the
sides of the main pieces, placing
them in the middle and stepping
two rounds up from the white
part.
3. Sew the black arms to the
grey stripes, placing them to the
lower part of the stripes.
4. Find the most successful
location for the eyes and glue them
on carefully using a super glue
«Moment». My eyes are located
between the rounds 11 and 24
(count from the white part of the
toaster).
5. Now we are going to embroider
the mouth for our toaster using the
black threads Vita Coco. Mark the
points where the mouth should be
located with pins. The corners of
the mouth on my toaster are
located between the rounds 7 and
8, and the lowest point is located
between the rounds 3 and 4
(count from the white part).
6. Embroider the nose with one
stitch in black color between the
rounds 8 and 9 (count from the
white part).
7. Embroider the eyebrows
with the thread of black color.
My eyebrows are located
between the rounds 2 and 5
(count from the top seam).
Paint the cheeks and our toaster is finished! All we left to do is to
make the bread piece and prepare a tasty breakfast!
Start to crochet in sand color (YarnArt
Toast Jeans, 07). Make two identical pieces,
work in turning rows.
Make ch21. Start crocheting from the second ch from the hook:
1) inc, 18sc, inc, ch, turn (22)
2) inc, 20sc, inc, ch, turn (24)
3) inc, 22sc, inc, ch, turn (26)
4-7) 26sc, ch, turn (26) - 4 rows
8) dec, 22sc, dec, ch, turn (24)
9) dec, 20sc, dec, ch, turn (22)
10) skip the first stitch, from the second stitch from the hook: 20sc, sl st, ch,
turn (21)
11) skip the first stitch, from the second stitch from the hook: 20sc, ch, turn
(20)
12-23) 20sc, ch, turn (20) - 12 rows
24) skip the first stitch, from the second stitch from the hook: 18sc, ch, sl st
into the last stitch (19)
25) now we are going to crochet sc around the piece we have just made:
ch, 12sc across the edge, sl st into the the corner, then crochet across the
semicircle: (2sc, inc)*3, 22sc across the top side of the toast, then across
the semicircle: (inc, 2sc)*3, sl st into the corner, 12sc across the edge, 3sc
at the corner, 18sc across the lower side, 3sc at the corner (96)
Make ch and start to crochet 12sc across the edge
across the edge of rows
sl st into the corner (2sc, inc)*3 across the
semicircle
22sc across the top side of the (inc, 2sc)*3 across the
toast semicircle
so st into the corner 12sc across the edge and 3sc
at the corner
After this make sl st and finish
the work at the first piece of our
toast. Fasten off the thread and cut,
leaving a very long thread tail for
sewing. After we have finished the
second identical piece, don’t cut the
thread. Now we are going to make
a toast crust.
18sc across the lower side and 3sc
at the corner
26) Change to brown color (YarnArt Jeans, 71), work sl st. Fasten off the
thread of sand color, cut, leaving a long thread tail for sewing. Crochet with
the thread of brown color into back loops only: ch2, 96dc, join with the first
stitch with sl st. Cut the thread.
Take two pieces we have made and sew them as it shown in the photos.
Insert the needle into the back loops of stitches on the sand part and into
both loops of stitches on the brown part. Stuff the piece slightly when
sewing, but don’t add much stuffing, otherwise the piece will get unnatural
shape.
Take two pieces Sew inserting the needle into
back loops of stitches on the
sand piece and into both loops
on the brown part
We should get the stitches of
sand color across the toast
crust
Stuff just a little We have joined the pieces
Now we need to crochet sc across the edge of our crust on one of the
sides to form a cable. We are going to crochet into back loops of the last
round of sand color, where we have already crocheted double crochet
stitches. Find these back loops between dc stitches (see photos below):
Crochet sl sts around with the brown
thread.
Cut the thread, fasten off. Weave in
all the thread tails inside of the toast.
Now we are going to make face
details for our piece of bread.
EYES OF OUR TOAST
Crochet with the thin black threads
(Vita Coco).
1) 6sc in MR (6)
2) 4inc, sl st. Don’t crochet the round
till the end.
Cut the thread, leaving a long thread
tail for sewing. Fasten off.
FACE DETAILS
Sew the eyes of our toaster between the rounds 6 and 10 (count down
from the brown crust), leaving 7 stitches apart.
Use the same thread to embroider the eyebrows between the rounds 3
and 5 (count down from the crust):
Embroider the mouth between the eyes with two stitches. The mouth
should be located between the rounds 10 and 12 (count down from the
brown crust). Make two white stitches above the eyes:
Now we need to embroider the cheeks. Take the pink thread and make
a pair of stitches between the rounds 10 and 11:
