Rocky bhai: the new sensation of the youth By ABC
The uprising at the KGF, the largest gold reserve in the country, recently erupted into an uncontrollable
vendetta on the screen. The story of Kolar Gold Fields (K.G.F.), its suppressed inhabitants, the brutal
and unscrupulous monarchs hit the screen recently and set new records at box office. The film reminds
one of the dark sides of our democracy.
KGF Chapter -2, has transformed itself and the entire Indian film industry into the international arena
and has done away with the regional identity of the film. One the one hand KGF Chapter
2, the second instalment and a sequel to K.G.F: Chapter 1 (2018), is a fabulous entertainer and on the
other it reminds one of the breakdowns in the system, which I believe will soon be a matter of serious
academic debate. The KGF series has also raised fingers on Bollywood, which claims to be the official
representative of the Indian film industry, both within and outside the country. This in any does not
mean to claim that it is what Indian cinema stands for. KGF - Chapter 2, is built on a marvellous visual
effect, and has realistic content in it which lies hidden and covered beneath this spectacular audio and
visual treat.
Raja Krishnappa Bairya aka Rocky Bhai Rocky, who after establishing himself as the kingpin of the
Kolar Gold Fields, in the first chapter of K.G.F necessarily needs to retain his supremacy over rivals
and government officials, while also coming to terms with his past. The story of K.G.F chapter 2,
progresses at a very brisk pace in a stylish tale of Rocky's journey to the top.
The film, like the first part, presents a dark, dreary world that is stylishly shot. While the first part spends
more time to convince the audience the journey of Rocky. Chapter 2 moves more swiftly than the first
and more characters are introduced. The battle for supremacy between Rocky and his rivals, the police
and the law-making elected bodies, including the Prime Minister highly engages the audience.
Unlike Chapter 1 we see a more emotional Rocky in Chapter 2, with his love story and glimpses that
take the audience further into his past life that fuelled his ambition. However, the love story does not
take away too much either from the time or the narrative. Sanjay Dutt as Adheera, Raveena Tandon as
the Prime Minister, Rao Ramesh as the CBI officer and Prakash Raj as the narrator decorates the film.
For the audience KGF: Chapter 2 is an action loaded film with style, heavy-duty stunts, and dialogues.
The film might not appeal to the seemingly woke audience, who would question consent or nitpick on
commercial staples like violence. But for those who love such films the director Prashanth Neel, offers
more excitement by hinting at a possible third chapter in the end credits. But undisputedly Rocky bhai,
has by now of course influenced the youth of the country and set a new wave.
