Biography: - Rishi Sunak
Rishi Sunak, a British politician who has been serving as the prime minister and the leader of
the Conservative Party since October 2022. He has also been the member of the parliament
for Richmond since 2015.
Sunak was born on 12th may 1980 in Southampton, Hampshire. He was the son of Yashvir and
Usha Sunak. He is the eldest of his siblings. He was educated at Winchester College, studied
philosophy, politics and economics at Lincoln College, Oxford, and earned an MBA from
Stanford University as a Fulbright scholar. While he was studying at Stanford he met his future
wife Akshata Murthy, the daughter of the Indian billionaire N. R. Narayana Murthy.
Sunak worked as the analyst for the investment bank Goldman Sachs. Then he also worked for
hedge fund management firm the Children's Investment Fund Management. In October 2014
Sunak was selected as the Conservative Party candidate for Richmond. The seat is one of the
safest Conservative seats in the United Kingdom. Sunak was also the head of the Black and
Minority Ethnic Research unit in the same year. He was elected as Member of Parliament for
the constituency at the 2015 general election. He was also a member of the environment,
Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee. Between January 2018 and July 2019, he served as
parliamentary under-secretary of state for local government. Sunak was appointed as chief
secretary to the Treasury by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on 24 th July 2019. The next day he
became a member of the Privy Council. King Charles III appointed Sunak as the prime minister
on 25th October 2022, making him the first British Asian prime minister of the United Kingdom
