GENERAL ADMISSIONS CRITERIA FOR 2023
The minimum admissions requirement is a National Senior
Certificat e (NSC) Bachelors pass – an achievement rating of 4
(adequate achievement 50-59%) or better in four subjects
chosen from the recognised 20 credit NSC subjects (known as
the designated subject list).

UWC POINTS SYSTEM
For admission to degree and diploma programmes, UWC uses a
weighted system for calculating points. In order to be admitted to
degree studies, the candidate should have attained a minimum
number of points.
In addition to minimum point score requirements as mentioned
above, additional criteria must be met to qualify for admission
to particular study programmes. Check out the programme

PREPARATION – KNOW WHAT TO STUDY?
1 Browse our academic programmes https://www.uwc.ac.za/
Pages/AllProgrammes.aspx to see if UWC off ers a programme
you’re interested in. Check the administration requirements to
make sure you will qualify for the programme. Do the PACE
programme online and identify the careers you are best suited for.
GETTING READY TO APPLY
2 Make sure you have the following documentation and information
with you before you start your online application: ID/Passport
number, valid email address, active cell numbers, school address,
contact details of your parent/guardian. Please make sure your
email and cell number is entered correctly.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
3 Entry requirements are the minimum academic standards that the
University requires in order to consider you for entry into one of our
degree programmes. Meeting the minimum requirements does not
guarantee you a place. Competition for most of our degrees is high
and demand for places generally exceeds the number of available
space. Final selection is made subject to the availability of space in a
specific programme, academic results and other entry requirements
where applicable.

STARTING YOUR ONLINE APPLICATION
4 Start your application by going to the online application portal
on the university website, and creating a new application. If you
are a current matriculant you must select “Undergraduate
Programme’’. Make sure your email address and cell number are
correct as UWC will communicate with your via these two
methods.
Once you have completed the online form click “ACCEPT ‘’to
complete your application. For possible placement in University
Residence complete section 3.
5 SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION
Complete the online application form by going to https://www.
uwc.ac.za/Students/Admin/Pages/Apply-Online.aspx
6 COMPLETING YOUR APPLICATION
You will receive an acknowledgement letter via email confirming
your application submission. Carefully read the
acknowledgement letter. Keep your Application Number safe
as you will need to use to check on your application status or if
you wish to update your details. For enquiries or assistance call
our Admissions Office or Contact Centre at 021 959 3900/01.
7 WHAT NEXT?
The university will notify all current grade 12 applicants on their
fi nal selection in January 2024 once matric results are released.
All other applicants will be notified by mid December 2023.
8 FEES AND FUNDING

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF APPLICATION
STEP
2 • After completion of the online application form you will
receive a letter via email from the University acknowledging
receipt of your application
• The acknowledgment letter will contain your APPLICANT
NUMBER
• This applicant number is to be used in all communication
with the University
• You will also receive a brochure indicating the SUPPORTING
documents that you will need to submit to the University by
the application closing dates for your application to be
considered complete

• Already Matriculated: Upload your matric certificate/

• Attending Another Tertiary Institution: Upload a certifi
ed copy of your academic record and certificate of good
conduct, stamped by the institution’s registrar.

OFFER TO STUDY
STEP
4 • Successful applicants will receive communication via email
offering a firm place and information about registration and
orientation for 2024
• Once a FIRM/FINAL offer is received, applicants will be
required to ACCEPT the offer within the designated time
• Should you not ACCEPT your offer in the designated period
you will forfeit your place to study (your offer will expire)
• You may however, call or email the UWC Contact Centre
and enquire as to whether your offer is still available even
after it has expired and have it accepted on your behalf
• Applicants who have accepted their offers will receive
communication via email informing them about
registration and orientation for 2024.

CURRENT MATRICULANTS
(You are in Grade 12 in 2023). You are not required
to submit any documentation.

POST-MATRIC LEARNERS (Already Matriculated )
If you have written the NSC examination already, you
need to submit the following:
• Certified copy of your NSC certificate or Senior
Certificate
• Certified copy of your identification document
• Proof of any studies with academic records, if
applicable, you may have completed
• If applicable, proof that you are currently
improving your NSC results
• In an affidavit a brief description of activities
post-matric/NSC
• Applicants who are re-writing Grade 12 subjects,
applications will be processed on the current grade
12 results. If Grade 12 has been written more than
once then your combined results must be
submitted with your application. Applicant must
indicate if they are re-writing some of their NSC
subjects

TRANSFER STUDENTS
If you are applying from another institution of higher
learning you need to submit certified copies of the
following:
• NSC Certificate or Senior Certificate
• Identification document
• Conduct Certificate from your institution
• Official Academic Transcript
• Module content / Yearbook descriptor from your
institution for all modules completed
• Degree certificate (if applicable)
Students applying for readmission to UWC
If you have studied at UWC previously and have taken
a break in study, you need to provide a letter of
motivation to be considered for readmission to your
respective faculty.

• You need to submit your final school results to
Universities South Africa (USAf ) for an evaluation.
• Application for Exemption is to be done with
Universities South Africa (USAf ) formerly Higher
Education South Africa (HESA) using the following link:

• We unfortunately will not be able to respond to your
application until you submit a confirmation letter
issued by USAf stating that you qualify to study at a
South African University.

applications for courses completed at another tertiary institution.

Yes, an applicant is required to fill out another application
form for each academic year.

Residential Services
About a quarter of the students at UWC are in university
residences. The Residential and Catering Services Office allocates
and manages accommodation in university residences for about
5800 full-time UWC students. Applicants for places (or for
readmission to residence at the beginning of a new year) must be
in good academic and financial standing and have a clean
disciplinary record. Details of what these requirements mean are
available on request.
