General Requirements

1.1 As a requirement, the service provider must adhere in full to the Transnet
Freight Rail Hauler and Trailer requirements.

1.2 The service provider will supply Bayhead Terminal with two (2x) terminal
haulers and two (2x) trailers in accordance with the specifications listed below.

1.3 The equipment can be supplied as new or used and the rate should be inclusive
of the following:

1.4 Utilization per month of 1000 kilometres per trailer and 100 hours per hauler.

1.5 Maintenance and callouts for repairs, excluding operators’ defaults.

1.6 Repairs and replacements of tires, excluding damage caused by operator

defaults, which will be priced separately as and when necessary.

1.7 A call centre and technicians are accessible for fault booking 24 hours a day,
with response times of two hours.

1.8 Once a month, all haulers must be washed, interior and exterior; trailers do not
need to be washed.

1. Scope

This specification is for an automatic transmission terminal hauler with an elevating

fifth wheel. The trailer shall be supplied complete and fully assembled in all
respects, including standard equipment supplied by the manufacturer and shall
comply with the South Africa Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993/as
amended or equivalent international standards such as ISO, DIN.

2. Hauler Details

2.1 The hauler shall be utilized for hauling a bathtub trailer transporting one 40ft,
one or two 20ft ISO Containers or one 20ft tank container. These can be empty or
fully laden up to a maximum load as per ISO standard.

2.2 The lift boom of the fifth wheel must be able to safely lift the trailer with a
loaded 40ft container of two fully loaded 20ft containers. During travelling, the
height of the fifth wheel must remain fixed.

2.3 The hauler will be subjected to shock impact loads of fully loaded containers
being loaded onto the hooked trailer.

2.5 Hauler will travel average 2 km per trip at maximum 40 km/h and subjected to
intermitted stops. The trailer must be able to negotiate tight corners around
container stacks.

2.6 The hauler may be required to negotiate speed humps and full oscillation of the
axles is required to allow for working on uneven surfaces.

2.9 Tyres and rims provided must be interchangeable and must be standard tyres
which are readily available in South Africa.

3. Technical Requirements

3.1 Vehicle Gross Mass (GVM) must be minimum 40 000kg.

3.2 Vehicle Gross Combination Mass (GCM) should be minimum 80 000kg.

3.3 The fifth wheel shall have a minimum lifting capacity of 32 000kg. The fifth
wheel lock jaw shall accommodate the trailer king pin shall for both SAE 3,5 inch as
well as SAE 2,0 inch.

3.4 The travel of the fifth wheel shall be at least 500 mm and must tilt 10° forwards
and backwards.

3.5 Standard gauges must be available:

3.5.1 Speedometer
3.5.2 Engine hour meter
3.5.3 Engine Coolant Temperature
3.5.4 Fuel Gauge
3.5.5 Air brake pressure
3.5.6 Engine Oil pressure

3.6 2x 12V battery supply, in lockable box.

3.7 Battery isolation switch must be available.

3.8 Operators cabin must be spacious to accommodate at least 2x people, with the
door closed. Only one seat is required.

3.9 Operators cabin must be fully air conditioned operating at an adjustable

temperature capable of controlling the cabin temperature between 20-24 C. Heater
and demister must also be provided.

4. Scheduled and Unscheduled Maintenance

4.1 Vehicle to be supplied with a Full Maintenance Lease (FML) for the duration of
lease period

4.2 FML to include the supply and fitting of tyres, at the cost of the contractor. Tyre
repairs due to operator/site conditions must be provided for and attended to within
2 hours from time of breakdown. Cost of repairs to be covered by Transnet.

4.3 All planned maintenance work to be successfully completed and handover to

operations within 3-6 hours

4.4 All minor repairs to be successfully completed and handover to operations

within 6-8 hours

4.5 All major repairs to be successfully completed and handover to operations

within 48 hours

1. Scope

This specification is for Corner-less bathtub type trailer that will be utilised for the
handling of ISO standard 20 and 40 foot containers, as well as damaged and out of
gauge containers.

The trailer shall be supplied complete and fully assembled in all respects, including
standard equipment supplied by the manufacturer and shall comply with the South
Africa Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993/as amended or
equivalent international standards such as ISO, DIN.

2. Trailer Details

2.1. The trailer shall be utilized to transport one 40ft, one or two 20ft ISO
Containers or one 20ft tank container. These can be empty or fully laden up to a
maximum load as per ISO standard.

2.2 The tank container can have a total mass of 38 000 kg and will be placed
halfway between the front and back of trailer.

2.3 In the case of 20ft ISO or similar containers, the total mass shall be 30 480kg.

2.4 The trailer will be subjected to shock impact loads of fully loaded containers
being loaded by container handling equipment and must therefore be factored in
the design calculation.

2.5 Trailer will travel average 2 km per trip at maximum 40 km/h and subjected to
intermitted stops. The trailer must be able to negotiate tight corners around
container stacks.

2.6 The king pin shall be bolted type and must contain both SAE 3,5 inch as well as
SAE 2,0 inch invertible pins.

2.7 Stoppers to retain the movement of containers in different loading

configurations must be fitted to the trailer. When the trailer is empty, the stoppers
must be in the open position.

2.8 The fixed landing legs must be capable to support the trailer with a full load
and while fully laden container is being loaded.

2.9 Tyres and rims provided must be interchangeable and must be standard tyres
which are readily available in South Africa.

2.10 The electrical system on the trailer shall be suitable for operation from a 24V
supply from a hauler.

2.11 The break system shall enable the trailer to comply with SANS 1447- Part 2,
SANS 107 and SANS SV1051, as well as the South African Road Traffic Act.

3. Technical Requirements

3.1 The trailer should have the following specifications:

3.1.1 Gross kingpin mass load = minimum 22 000 kg.

3.1.2 Gross rear axle unit mass load = minimum 42 000 kg.
3.1.3 Overall payload = minimum 61 000 kg.

3.2 The inner width of the trailer i.e., the width whereupon the containers will be
placed must be between 2430-2450 mm.

3.3 The inner length of the trailer i.e., the length whereupon the containers will be
placed must be between 12000-12600 mm.
