Course Objectives:
   This course is especially designed for the MBA students to provide them with knowledge
and training in financial accounting and the use of financial accounting information id decision
making. The main objectives of the course are:
    1- To provide the student with understanding of financial accounting and reporting.
    2- To provide the student with conceptual and practical knowledge needed to understand
       and use accounting information for making economic decisions.
    3- To enhance the student’s problem solving aptitude.
Course Description:
     This course is designed for MBA students with different academic backgrounds and
training. The early sessions will be devoted to the discussion and analysis of the conceptual
issues related to production and communication of accounting information to fulfill the needs of
external users (mainly the investors and creditors). These sessions will include some basic
discussion of the conceptual framework of financial reporting, a review of the accounting
system, and discussion of the basic financial statements. This will be followed by an examination
of how to use financial statements for business analysis and valuation.

Hill, Irwin, 2014.
Students are encouraged to make effective use of the library. It is advised to read any article
that discuss the issues covered in this course.

Grade Determination:
Your grade in this course will be based on the points you earn during the semester. Total points
are allocated as follows:
Mid-Term exam                                 30 points
Class participation                           10 “
Assignment                                    10 “
Attendance                                    10 “
Final Exam                                     40 “
Total points                                  100 “
The mid-term exam is planned to be during the fifth week. The exact exam date will be
announced later. Exercises , problems, and cases will be assigned at the end of each class.
No make-up exams will be given, and no late assignments will be accepted.
Students should notice that this is a demanding course that contains a lot of details.
Here is some advice that might help you get through the course, especially if accounting does
not come easily to you:
    a-   Do not miss class.
    b-   Read the assigned material in advance before class meetings.
    c-   Do all the assigned exercises and problems and do not fall behind.
    d-   Pay attention to details.
    e-   Ask questions and participate in class discussion.
