III. PROCEDURE

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS ACTIVITY

A. Daily Routine

(Prayer)
Good Morning Class!
Good Morning Ma’am!
Go to your permanent seats for I will be checking
your attendance. (Teacher will refer to her seat plan)

B. Review

What was our topic yesterday?

About basic electronics hand tools.
Can you give some of those basic hand tools?
Screwdrivers, soldering iron, long nose, side cutter,
utility knife, magnifying glass.
Can you still recall the classifications of these basic
hand tools?
Yes Ma’am!
What are those?
Driving tools, soldering tools, splicing tools, boring
tools, cutting tools, and auxiliary tools.
What are the tools under cutting tools?
Utility knife and hacksaw.
If you want to drill holes in the Printed Circuit Board
(PCB), what tool you should use?
12V Mini Drill
Very Good!
C. Motivation
So much for that, now class group yourselves into 4
for we will be having a game called “Through Pics
guess the word”. 1st row will be the group 1, 2 nd row
as group 2, 3rd row as group 3, and 4th row as group
4. The mechanics of the game is that the group who
will get the first 3 points through guessing the
pictures guided by the rumbled letters which
describes the pictures will be declared as the winner
and will be given a special point.

D. Presentation
Today, you should be able to define resistor and
recognize the resistor’s color coding chart,
appreciate the importance of resistor’s color coding
chart, and compute the resistor’s value using the
resistor’s tabulating form.

E. Lesson Proper

Activity

With the same group, we will be having an activity. I

have here resistors and each group will be given at
least three (3 pcs.) for you to observe it carefully,
write your observations on the manila paper
provided. I will give you 5 minutes for that, then
choose a representative from your group to present
your answers in front.
Students possible answers:
1. Color coded
2. No polarity
3. From the word itself, it resists the flows of the
current in a circuit.
4. It has 4 color bands.

Analysis

Based on your activity earlier, do you think resistor

has a polarity?
None Ma’am!
Why do you think so?
Because based on my observation, there’s no positive
and negative terminal on the resistor.
What can you drawn from that observation?
Resistor can be connected in any way in a circuit.

What do you think is the function of resistor in a

circuit? It is used to maximize or control the current flow in a
circuit.

Why is that resistors are color coded? Or what is the

function of that color code on the resistor?
Maybe it is one way to measure the resistors value.

Nice answer.
Abstraction

There are quite a number of components used in the

application of electronics such as resistors,
capacitors, inductors and semi-conductors. But
today, we will just focus on the resistors.

Will you please read the definition of resistor?

Resistor is an electronic component that is used to offer
opposition to current in an electrical circuit.

Because of the opposition to current, it minimizes

and controls the current in the circuit.

Another is that resistor also is the most commonly

used electronics component in the field.

What are the classifications of resistor?

Fixed resistor and variable resistor.
Fixed value resistors have a fixed or defined ohmic
resistance and are not adjustable. In general fixed
resistor is one of the most used electronic
components with the symbol

How about the variable resistor?

Variable resistor is a resistor of which the electric or
ohmic resistance value can be adjusted.
Variable resistor is the opposite of fixed resistor with
a symbol

Resistor uses a set of colors which follows a code for

its assumed resistance expressed in OHMS.

Resistor has 4 Bands color code, 5 Bands color code

and 6 Bands color code. But today class we will just
focus on 4 Bands color code, for it is the common
and available resistor we have, and these are also
the resistors popular among students like you.

Good job Class!
Any questions or clarifications from the class?
None Ma’am!
Are you sure you really understand it clearly?
Yes Ma’am!
Okay. Resistor opposes or resists the flow of?
Current in a circuit.
What are the classifications of resistor?
Fixed resistor and variable resistor.

Application

With the same group with your activity earlier,

each group will be given 3 pieces of resistors
and a bond paper. Be guided by the following.
1. Identify the colors of the resistors one
by one and record them in the
resistor’s tabulation form, then
compute for the resistance value of
each resistor by following the color
coding scheme.
2. Write the value of resistance in the
tabulation form.
3. Arrange the resistors by pasting it to
the bond paper, in such a way that the
value is in ascending manner.
Write your answers in a ½ (crosswise) piece of
paper. You will work as a group but you will
answer it individually.
