Clipper circuits
Clippers are circuits that employ diode to clip away a portion of the input signal without
distorting the remaining part of the signal or waveform.
There are two general categories of clippers:
1. Series Clipper (the diode is in series with the output load)
2. Parallel Clipper (the diode is in parallel with the output load)
Again the above clippers are divided into +ve clipper and –ve clipper.
Series clipper
• +ve clipper
• -ve clipper
  Series clipper with bias
Here more than one voltage source is applied to the circuit, one ac another dc. The
condition of diode will be decided by considering both the sources.

Another way is to follow the given steps
1. Determine the applied voltage (transition voltage) that will result a change of state for
the diode from ‘off’ to the ‘on’ state .
2. The transition voltage in the input ac voltage can be found out from the circuit with
                (a)𝑉𝐷 = 0𝑣 and 𝐼𝐷 = 0𝑚𝐴 for idle diode.
                (b)𝑉𝐷 = 0.7𝑣 and 𝐼𝐷 = 0𝑚𝐴 for Si diode.
3. Draw a horizontal line in the input waveform at the transition voltage.
