Halaqa on compassion

⁃ Rahma: compassion, kindness, and mercy.


⁃ Fundamental attribute of Allah: Ar-Rahman (The Most Gracious) and Ar-
Rahim (The Most Compassionate).
⁃ Prophet M sent as a mercy to the worlds (Surah Al-Anbiya 21:107).
⁃ Rahma fosters strong, supportive communities and promotes social
justice.
⁃ Practicing compassion helps earn Allah’s mercy, purifies the heart, and
achieves spiritual growth.

Prophetic Examples of Compassion:


⁃ Helped an elderly woman carry her load with humility and kindness.
⁃ Treated family with immense love and care; played with grandchildren;
advised kindness towards wives.
⁃ Showed kindness to animals; emphasized proper treatment.
⁃ Forgave the people of Mecca after its conquest, highlighting
forgiveness.
⁃ Emphasized caring for orphans and the vulnerable; supporters will be
close to him in Paradise.
⁃ Advocated for justice and fairness; ensured everyone is treated with
respect.
⁃ Practiced patience and gentleness; responded kindly even in harsh
situations.
⁃ Engaged in charity; best people are those most beneficial to others.
⁃ Lived humbly; mended his own clothes; approachable to everyone.

Rahma and Ihsan:


⁃ Ihsan: striving for excellence in all actions, done with sincerity for
Allah’s sake.
⁃ Rahma ensures the pursuit of excellence is filled with kindness and
empathy.
⁃ Cultivating compassion develops empathy, patience, and humility.
⁃ Combination fosters social harmony and justice.
⁃ Rahma balances goals, ensuring pursuit of excellence remains kind and
considerate.
⁃ Encourages self-compassion; helps maintain a positive and resilient
attitude during setbacks.

Reflecting Allah’s Mercy and Perfection:


⁃ No being more perfect or more merciful than Allah SWT.
⁃ Reflect privileges received from Allah in our lives.
⁃ Make an effort to embody rahma and ihsan in actions.

Duas to Increase Compassion:


⁃ Allahumma inni as’aluka mujibati rahmatik wa ‘aza’ima maghfiratik, wal-
ghanimata min kulli birrin, was-salamata min kulli ithmin.

"O Allah, I ask You for the means of Your mercy and forgiveness, and the benefit of
every good deed, and safety from all sins."

⁃ Rabbi inni zalamtu nafsi faghfir li, fa innahu la yaghfiru adh-dhunuba


illa ant.

"My Lord, I have wronged myself, so forgive me. Verily, none forgives sins but
You."

⁃ Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum, bi rahmatika astagheeth, aslih li sha’ni kullahu wa


la takilni ila nafsi tarfata ‘ayn.
"O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, by Your mercy, I seek help. Rectify for me all of my
affairs and do not leave me to myself, even for the blink of an eye."
