MOTHERBOARD
A motherboard is a printed circuit board in a computer that connects all
parts of the computer together.It is also called the mainboard or logic
board.It allows for communication between computer components
such as the CPU ,memory and peripheral devices.It acts as a backbone
of the computer.
COMPONENTS OF MOTHER BOARD
They are the components that are on the motherboard.They include the
cpu,memory slots,chipset,expansion slot, storage connectors, power
connectors, input output ports,Bios chip and cooling solutions .
CPU SOCKETS
It houses the cpu ,which is the brain of the computer , an example of
such is the intel.
DIMM sockets
It stands for Dual In-line Memory Module and is the RAM module(s) on
a mother board. A dot in the 2 DIMM column means the memory will
work when you put in two sticks of RAM.If there are four slots you put
in slot 1 and 3.
The motherboard chipset
It is a silicone backbone intergrated into the motherboard that works
with specific CPU generations.It relays communication between the
CPU and the connected storage and expansion devices.
ROM bios chip
This is where the system that tells the computer what to do after
turning it on is stored (bios).The are two types of bios chips that are on
the motherboard ; BIOs(basic input output system),UEFI (unified
extensible filmaware interface).
Cooling solutions
This is where the temperature of the motherboard is maintained to
the optimal scale.They can be the fans, heat sinks and liquid cooling.
Input output ports
This are stations where we connect external devices.They include the
USB port,audio jacks ,ethernet port playstation ports HDMI port..
Power connectors
This is where we input our chargers to provide power to the
motherboard.
Storage connectors
These are slots where we insert our storage devices like the HDDS and
SSDs.
Expansion slots
These are slots where we install additional cards that enhance the
functionality of a computer. They include PCI,AGP,PCI Express.
Factors to consider when selecting a motherboard
For a suitable motherboard you will need to check if it has suitable
ports for RAM USB ports.
If it is compatible with your computer devices and graphics.
