Sustainability at SKIDATA

Just as the bee makes an important contribution to our ecosystem, we are also aware of our responsibility and act with consideration for people and the environment.

How SKIDATA takes responsibility
through sustainability
As an important player in the field of people and vehicle
access, we feel responsible in asserting assurance with
our customers, employees, and the greater communi-
ty that we act with respect to both humanity and the
environment.

SKIDATA is your preferred partner not just due to the

quality of our solutions and services, but how we
address sustainability and do our business consciously
and responsibly. Sustainability is part of our vision and
thus an important topic at SKIDATA to inspire our col-

leagues to work with pride, and in turn be served by the
policies in place to benefit them.

SKIDATA is currently evaluating design, production &

packaging for selected products to ensure further steps
can be taken to decrease negative environmental im-
pact. This includes focusing on reducing energy use by
implementing eco-friendly features in product design,
reducing plastic in packaging where applicable, and
continuously improving digital product offerings in order
to move away from plastic, paper, print or analog
systems requiring more machinery and hardware.

In 2022, employees from different teams introduced the

sustainable
SKIDATA CSR Initiative in a self-motivated bottom-up
approach, strongly supported by the Global Leadership
Team. Important steps have already been taken to wel-
come sustainability at SKIDATA. The focus for 2023 is to
evaluate and eventually optimize our carbon footprint.
But also initiatives that address the social aspects of
CSR are implemented.

This document outlines the present initiatives and

steps taken and will show the future-oriented attitude
of SKIDATA as a company and of our solutions and
services when it comes to addressing Corporate Social
Responsibility.

SKIDATA Corporate Social Responsibility
activities and initiatives
The most important asset at SKIDATA is our employees and we all take responsibility
by putting sustainability at the heart of our daily work. Therefore, it was only logical
and sensible to involve them in a bottom-up approach in our sustainability strategy.
These activities were already started in 2022 and currently around 20 volunteers – in
addition to their regular activities – are driving sustainability initiatives, with the full
support of the global management team.

The focus of our CSR initiatives in 2023

is the reduction of our CO2 footprint.
At SKIDATA, we recognized early on that sustainability is not only an important
issue for the environment, but also for our business strategy. For this reason, we

The CSR Roadmap to be continued

Although we have already achieved a lot, we are aware that there is still a lot to do
to create a sustainable future. Therefore, we have more sustainability projects in the
pipeline and there will be many more to come in the future. We firmly believe that
through joint efforts we can have a positive impact on the environment and society
and thus fulfil our responsibility as a company.

Living sustainably is a never-ending process that has no defined beginning, let alone
an end. That‘s why we are constantly working on new projects so that we can con-

be the sustainable solution

Today, digital solutions play an increasingly important role in our daily lives and
in the business world. For our customers in particular, digital solutions can
offer significant added value. By using digital technologies and platforms, our
customers can communicate more conveniently, quickly and efficiently with
the providers of our services. In addition, digital solutions can help us better
understand our customers and provide personalized offers tailored to their
individual needs and preferences. In this context, it is clear that digital solu-
tions are invaluable to customers and play an increasingly important role in our
daily lives.

In the following you will find a short outline of our solutions.

SKIDATA hardware products

Hardware designed for a long lifetime

SKIDATA hardware products offer compact and long-lasting design. They are designed to last for 15+ years. The long
product life cycle results in less material to be produced and used. Product components get updated to the latest standards
to extend the lifecycle of the main product. At the end of the life cycle of the products, a manual is at hand to assess how to
dis-assemble and how to recycle pieces, as legally required.
Generally, all hardware products are designed and built with a focus on low energy consumption and support of power
saving modes which will be implemented in our new products as well as selected existing products.

Eco-friendly features supporting low power consumption of

SKIDATA hardware products:
Optional lighting for automated payment / ticket machines (APM) or gates is equipped with the latest LED lighting.
SKIDATA parking management system supports Windows power save mode
Use of fan-free premium power supplies (pulse) with very high efficiency
Power to the gate motors is switched off completely when the barrier boom is in its end position
Column display and attached reader can be switched off and then activated only when a vehicle is on the presence
detection loop (display lighting, coder, long-range reader), dimming feature is used
Use of microcontrollers and embedded CPUs in the units with low power consumption
Heating and fans are only needed outdoors; temperature thresholds can be set individually
Individual parking space monitoring: helping to reduce traffic searching for parking in the garage
Thermal print head for tickets has a very long lifetime, resulting in limited costs

SKIDATA maintenance
Staging
Pre-assembling of products by the Staging department at SKIDATA supports higher efficiency and helps individual
components to be handled with care. Moreover, SKIDATA staff reduces travel caused by several delivery or support
visits to the customer’s site. That’s why sustainable production is one of the focuses of SKIDATA.
Remote maintenance for car parks
With introducing digital software delivery in 2022, SKIDATA’s customers benefit from more conve-
nience and less effort for the operation of their car parks. For the customer, there is no need to call
the service technician for installing updates on site.
For SKIDATA’s service technicians, travelling to the customer’s site could be significantly reduced.

Maintenance cycles
SKIDATA’s strategy focuses on a Hardware design that enables easy repairs providing a spare
parts catalogue. Based on the Installed Base, we know which materials are necessary for repair
and maintenance. Thus, we save car traffic as technicians do not have to fetch material again for
repairs on site.
Spare parts are available for up to seven years after end of Sales to support the long product
lifecycle of SKIDATA hardware.

Documentation
To avoid unnecessary use of paper, our product and segment documentation is nearly completely
digital. Manuals for refitting of existing hardware products do not exist in printed form anymore, the
manuals can be downloaded via a QR code. The same is valid for recycling instructions which can
be downloaded from SKIDATA’s Digital Asset Management System ADAM.

Recycling
Recycling instructions are available. Also, SKIDATA fulfills RoHS (Restriction of the use of certain
Hazardous Substances) standards.

18 19
be the change
At the SKIDATA headquarters in Grödig, waste is produced every day
that needs to be disposed of and energy is required for daily operations.
Not only does proper disposal play an important role, but also energy
consumption during operation. Efficient waste management and the con-
scious use of energy can help to reduce both environmental pollution and
costs and thus make an important contribution to sustainable business.
In order to save energy, avoid waste and care for a good and comfort-
able working environment, SKIDATA has taken many initiatives.

It is important to us to create a working environment in which everyone
can develop their potential. No matter whether old or young, what skin

Labor
At SKIDATA, we combine a corporate culture based on partnership, social benefits and family-friendly working hours.
To best reflect personal needs and to balance work and private/family life, SKIDATA offers our employees flexible working
times (working time of trust), regulated mobile working (working place of trust), as well as part-time models and the purchase
of one additional holiday week per year. Mobile Working broadens the possibilities of flexible working with regard to the work-
place (additional workplaces of trust) which is also a contribution to reduce CO2-emissions by less commuting.
To parents, SKIDATA has different offers for parental leave and is open to individual solutions. We are currently working on a
parent initiative to fully understand and better meet parental needs. With the key findings from this working parents initiative
some actions have already been taken. For older employees, there are options for slowly introducing retirement instead of a
hard stop.
There are diverse employee benefits, e. g. company pension plan, special rates for health insurance, food subsidies for local
restaurants as well as special conditions in local trade and services. Regular engagement surveys to all employees capture
feedback structurally and enables a continuous improvement process.
