Elijah's Dream
By Matt Overd
This is intended for performing in casual environments.
Its not 100% but its quite direct.

First I like to check if the participant actually knows their

sign.

“Just yes or no, do you know your star sign?”

If they say ‘no’ we can either get them to look it up,

move to someone else that does or do a di erent e ect.
Next, we need to get rid of the star sign ‘Aquarius’, I
prefer to do it like this.

“A star sign can tell us a lot about a person, for

example when I woke this morning I got a very
strong impression I'd meet someone today that's
an Aquarius … but that's not you is it?…”

If they say ‘yes’, we can take the direct hit and then
either move to another person or perform a di erent
e ect. I would then ask who else in the group is also an
‘Aquarius’ to be sure the e ect will now work. This is
also a great ploy whenever we get a ‘no’ response from
the spectator, as it allows us to claim we were picking up
ff

on that star signs energy from whoever now admits to
being an ‘Aquarius’. After checking to see if the
spectator is an ‘Aquarius’ and receiving a ‘no’ response
we move on with the routine and use Fraser's wonderful
‘Sui Generis’ principle. However, for the rest of the star
signs that could potentially belong to the spectator, we
only need to use one aspect of ‘Sui Generis’ in order to
obtain one letter/word to know their sign.

“No I didn't think so, you'll be perfect for this.

What I'd like you to do, is in your mind only, just
begin to say your star sign to yourself over and
over again … that's right … just slow it down a
little … that's better”.

“Now try not to over think this, but just intuitively

allow a letter from in there to jump out at you...
and when you have one just lock it in the back of
your mind, because next I want you to slowly
start cycling through the names of people you
know and stop when you get to a name that
begins with the letter you have just locked in the
back of your mind …”

At this stage if we wish, we can do a quick cold reading

of the person they are thinking of to get some extra hits.
One thing to keep in mind is that generally the quicker
they think of the name they chose, the closer that person
will be to them, emotionally.
If they say they can't think of someone or they look as
though they are struggling then just tell them to think of
any name that starts with that letter.

Next, we need to straight out ask them the name, but we

want to do it in a way that makes it appear as though we
either knew it or were very close. I have two options here
that I like. The rst is something I call the ‘Blu Miscall’. I
originally learnt it from Jerome Finley, however, I believe
Banachek had work on it also.

“And the name you were thinking of was?”

Spectator: “Brandon”

“Brandon, oh I was getting Landon, but you were

thinking of Brandon, is that right?”

The idea here is if it was just a trick why wouldn't you get
it exactly right. So whatever name they say you have to
think on your feet of a name that is similar but not the
same and that is the name you say you were getting.
Even in the worst case scenario when they aren't 100%
convinced by this ploy, thanks to the ‘Sui Generis’
principle they will still have no idea how you are able get
their sign, in a moment.

The next option here is adapted from an idea by Kenton

Knepper, found in his wonderful ‘Mind Reading Lessons’.
Do yourself a favour, if you don’t already have this work
then head over to www.wonderwizards.com and grab
yourself a copy. In this case we are going to imply a hit
fi
ff
by shifting the focus slightly. We again start by asking for
the name.

“And the name you were thinking of was?”

Spectator: “Brandon”

“Of course it was (or I thought so if that suits you

better), but I really want to know who this person
is to you.”

Once they answer, continue with a follow up question

and put all of the emphasis on that person and why they
may have chosen that person. Obviously if you are going
this route you don't want to go too deep on the initial
cold reading so you have somewhere to go. If during the
initial name selection they couldn't think of anyone they
know whose name begins with that letter so they ended
up on a random name instead then say:

“Of course it was, but what I really want to know

is why I got the impression I did when the name
came to me. Are you sure there's no one
connected to you with that name?”

If they still say no then you can say something like.

“Well watch out for someone coming into your

life with that name in the near future. I feel they
will play a very important part in things to come.”
We are now either down to one or two signs, if its one
sign then I stop suddenly, place my hand on their arm
and look into their eyes for a moment and say:

“I'm getting a strong Libra energy from you... you

are a Libra correct?”

For the three cases that need a two way out my

preference is as follows:

“When I rst started speaking to you I got the

very strong impression you were a [say the rst
of the two possible star signs]… but now I'm
getting a strong [say the second possible star
sign] energy from you... you are a [second
possible star sign] correct?”

I say that I'm sensing the energy of the sign that I'm
guessing as my out. If they say that’s not correct I say:

“So what sign are you?... an Aries? Interesting i

was de nitely sensing some Libra energy coming
from you, as I feel you are the type of person
who prefers a certain amount of change and
variety in their life and dislikes being hemmed in
by restrictions”

Here they will now con rm they are in fact whatever sign
you sensed they were in either case. You now simply
state the reason you picked up on the energy of the
alternative possible sign they could be using a basic cold
reading line as your justi cation. They will agree with this
fi
fi
fi
fi
fi
‘one size ts all’ reading statement and will therefore
have to assume they do in fact have certain energy
associated with one of the signs you throw out, even if
that particular sign doesn’t belong to them.

The fact you mention both of the possible star sign outs
they could be means and thanks to the structure of your
scripting, means you will always appear to have been
able to pick up on their sign.

Here are the various outs based on the name they give
you. All you have to do is take note of the rst letter the
name they say begins with and follow this mental crib to
work out which outs you are dealing with.

I suggest learning these well, so that you will be able to

instantly recall the correct outs mentally and without any
hesitation during performance.

R = Aries/Taurus
G = Virgo/Sagittarius
P = Scorpio/Capricorn
M = Gemini
C = Cancer
E = Leo
B = Libra
S = Pisces

I have kept it to just the one letter that I feel is most likely
to come up to keep this e ect as streamlined as
possible. However I highly suggest you keep track of
your misses and if one particular letter is coming up
fi
ff
fi
more often then implement this information in your
guess.

That’s it! I hope you enjoy going out and blowing your
spectator and audience member’s minds with this little
piece of mind reading.

I would also like to credit Atticus Xane for his work on

the prop-less ‘One Ahead’, which was my initial
inspiration and for the rest of his amazing help in
developing my idea.

Until next time,

Matt Overd
