Report to the emergency assembly point where the supervisor / emergency coordinator can
conduct roll call to ensure nobody is missing, this is why its important to inform your
supervisor when you leave your workplace for whatever reason, toilet or to buy food etc.
Do not linger at the scene of the emergency, you will only be in the way of the emergency
response team.
Do not go back to your work area until you are instructed to do so.
Do not leave the emergency assembly point and wander around
When evacuating from any emergency, do not go back for tools, personal belongings, etc.
MANUAL HANDLING
Manual handling injuries cause more lost time at work than any other single work-related
cause. This are normally back injuries but also include muscle strains and sprains, hand and
foot injuries
There are a number of mechanical aids available to reduce the amount of manual handling
on site, these should be used wherever practicable e.g. wheelbarrows, kerb trolley manhole
cover/ring trolley etc
No person should attempt to lift any object they are not comfortable with, (-if you complain
of a wheelbarrow load, then you clearly in the wrong industry)
Loads that are bulky, heavy, unwieldly or are to be carried over a long distance require an
assessment to be carried out and precautions put in place to minimise risks of injuries
Where possible, larger loads should be broken down into smaller loads and/or team lifting
should be considered, but with caution.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE CLOTHING
The employers should provide necessary PPE free of charge.
Look after your PPE and always wear it when and where required
Please ask your supervisor to supply you with any additional PPE you might require to perform your
