Rain repellent shortage situation

Description:
Further to several airlines’ reports and communication from the supplier Donaldson-Le Bozec, a shortage of the manufacturing
of the Rain Repellent fluids (Foralkyl 2211 and 2050) is actual.
The reason for this shortage is due to the European regulation (ECHA) limiting product importation.
Aircraft affected:
A300/-600, A310 with 402Q80-1
A320 with 402Q80-1 & 406Q75-1
A330/A380 with 402Q80-1 (406Q75-1 to be certified Q3 2024)
A350 with 402Q75-1
Flush CAN: 406Q80-1
Solution / Recommendation:
Today, there is no alternative products.
In the meantime, and to cope with the shortage situation, Airbus proposes 2 options for in-service:
1st option:
Permanent and long-term solution is the deactivation of the Rain repellent system via RFC/RMO process. The SBs are noted
in References section. Please contact your upgrade sales manager to proceed with this solution.
2nd option:
Application of MMEL item 30-45-03(02). The system can be put under MMEL for 120 DAYS when there is no more fluid in the
bottle and no replacement is possible. Please note that an additional 120 DAYS is possible with the operator’s authority approval.
After the first MMEL application, and if CAN replacement is not possible, our office is able to provide a free of charge RDAF in
order to deactivate the rain repellent system for a period of maximum 1 YEAR.
To do so, the customers are requested to provide the following information:
A list of MSNs having a current application of MMEL item 30-45-03A(02) of 120 DAYS and its closure date (please note that
this interval can be extended by the operator in accordance with their authority).
The list of MSNs needs to be grouped depending on the installed CAN PN: 402Q80-1 or 406Q75-1/402Q75-1 (technical solution
will be different regarding the installed P/N)
Please contact Airbus customer support through TechRequest (Domain “engineering”) with a minimum of 1 month
before MMEL closure date with the above requested information for the RDAF solution.
Additional Note:
Please note that the Deactivation tasks present in the AMM for all Airbus programs are not to be used for flight purposes. Indeed,
those tasks are subject to maintenance and called by ATA 10 chapter for parking & storage purpose.
